The Pigeon Pair Saves The Marriage by Janice Gold

Chapter 26

Chapter 26

He thought, ‘No wonder Edith didn’t answer the phone. She went to the hospital to take care of another man!’

Anger flared in Gideon’s chest.

He didn’t want to hear any more from Danika, quickly offering a couple of responses before hanging up.

“Bang!”

He smashed the phone onto the table, making the vase shake and petals fall. The sudden noise startled Ray as he entered.

He paused for several seconds, ensuring there was no further action before daring to proceed.

‘He’s this sick and still has the energy to get angry?’

Ray scoffed in his mind but dared not show it on his face.

“Mr. Peterson, the doctor said you can stay for one more day of observation, and if there’s nothing wrong by tomorrow morning, you’ll be discharged. You need to watch your diet for a while, and I’ve brought back your medication,” he said.

When Gideon heard he would also be discharged tomorrow morning, his chest tightened suddenly, and he immediately picked up his phone again.

He embarked on a relentless spree of calls.

Edith had just arrived at the lab when her phone vibrated incessantly in her palm.

Suppressing the urge to roll her eyes, she answered, “Mr. Peterson, your actions are interfering with my work and life. I could sue you for harassment.”

Hearing her sharp tone, Gideon fell silent for a few seconds before retorting sarcastically.

“Edith, it’s work hours, and you’re ignoring your boss’ calls. Whose problem is that, exactly?”

Well… She couldn’t argue with him.

Edith pouted, her voice colder than ever. “Just tell me what you need, Mr. Peterson. I have a report to write.”

Her attitude only infuriated Gideon more.

He couldn’t understand why Edith was so caring and attentive when visiting Shane, even peeling fruit for him, but all Gideon got was a stone-cold face. What was the reason for that?

Gideon looked sullen. “Pick me up at eight tomorrow morning for my discharge.”

“Don’t you have an assistant? Don’t you have a driver? I’m here to collaborate with your company on artifact restoration, not to serve you.”

Edith fired back in a series, firmly saying, “Mr. Peterson, I’m under no obligation to pick you up from the hospital.”

For five years, Gideon still loved treating her like a servant.

On one hand, Edith resisted his attitude. On the other, she had promised Shane. Breaking

that promise would be too dishonorable.

After she finished speaking, Gideon’s voice softened slightly. “Don’t forget why I’m in hospital.”

“Beep!” The call abruptly ended.

Edith looked at her phone, somewhat stunned.

‘Why hang up without a word? What did that last statement mean? Was it a threat?

‘Domineering! Arrogant!’ she thought.

These two words were made for Gideon.

Edith lashed out at him in her mind, using this to vent her frustration.

Angry as she was, she hadn’t completely lost her sanity.

Had it not been for Gideon taking the drinks for her, she would have been the one in hospital, barely clinging to life.

Edith sheepishly sent Shane a message, explaining that she couldn’t visit the hospital tomorrow and promising to make it up later.

Shane replied instantly, saying it was okay.

After dealing with the upsetting matter, Edith picked up her glass and gulped down most of the water.

Drinking water was a habit whenever she felt upset.

Jeanne put down her painting board and came over to hug her. “Mommy, was it Gideon? Did he do something to make you angry?”

The kindergarten was closed for a safety inspection today, so the two little ones had come to the lab with her.

“Nothing,” Edith replied, holding Jeanne in her arms and taking a few deep breaths, feeling

at ease.

What could be more healing than the sweet smell of her kid?

“But, Mommy, you look sad.”

Jeanne’s tender hands caressed her forehead. “Look, it’s all furrowed.”

“I’m just tired from work. Go play with Ruben,” Edith said, placing her on the couch and having her assistant bring some snacks before focusing back on her work.

Jeanne poked Ruben and whispered conspiratorially, “I think Gideon is quite nice. Last time when we got lost, it was Gideon who found us. Plus, he’s better-looking than Shane.”

“Do you think…there’s some misunderstanding between Mommy and Gideon?”

Jeanne had a thing for good looks.

Ruben, cleaning his glasses and putting them back on, cautioned. “Don’t be fooled by his appearance.”

‘Misunderstanding? How could there be a misunderstanding?

12:30

‘Abandoning his wife and children to have a daughter with someone else soon, he was indeed a jerk, Ruben thought.

“Hmm…” Jeanne propped her head, not understanding the meaning behind his words.

Deciding not to dwell on things she couldn’t figure out, Jeanne left the thinking to Ruben, who was always smarter than her. She just needed to be responsible for being cute.

Ruben turned on his computer and focused intently on it.

Soon, a mix of red and green data graphs appeared on the screen, representing the stock trends of various companies. Ruben found the Peterson Group and began his analysis. With a clear strategy, he worked even faster on trading.

All morning, he did only two things, which were buying stocks and then selling them in bulk.

This activity wouldn’t financially harm the Peterson Group, but it was incredibly annoying and would disrupt the stock market trends.

After finishing his work, Ruben smirked, showing a satisfied expression.

Anyone who dared to bully his mommy must pay a price!

“Ruben, this snack tastes so good!” Jeanne, upon finding something she liked, immediately shared it with Ruben.

She grabbed a small biscuit and stuffed it into his mouth.

Jeanne’s gaze fell on the computer, and she tilted her head curiously. “Ruben, what are you doing? I can’t understand any of it.”

She had been snacking all morning while Ruben was typing on the keyboard.

Even though they were siblings of similar age, their lives seemed worlds

their lives seemed worlds apart. Watching Ruben’s serious demeanor, she thought he was an industry expert.

“It’s nothing.”

Ruben closed his laptop, glanced at the clock, and said briefly, “I am hungry, time to eat.”

Jeanne, easily distracted by food, didn’t care what it was about anymore and bounced off to find Edith.

“Mommy, it’s lunch time! Ruben is hungry, and so am I!”

Edith looked up from her documents. “You’ve finished all the snacks and still feel hungry? Is there a black hole in your stomach?”

She then took Ruben and Jeanne to the cafeteria for lunch.

The combination of a beautiful woman and adorable kids drew considerable attention.

Meanwhile, Ray received an urgent call from the company and immediately checked the stock market on his computer.

He scrolled through the data, saying in astonishment, “Mr. Peterson, there are hundreds of accounts that have suddenly started buying and selling the Peterson Group shares.

“Should we investigate this?”

Such organized and planned activity surely meant the attacker was tough.

Gideon, pale-faced, got up from his sickbed.

He didn’t reply but took the computer to check the purchase quantities and batches carefully.

Soon, Gideon noticed a pattern.

That guy was simply buying and selling without causing any actual loss to the company.

Was this a provocation?

Gideon tried to track them, but each account has a virtual IP, leaving no valuable clues.

He felt a headache coming on, unsure of whom he had offended.

“Keep a close eye on it, and immediately inform me of any developments.”

Gideon thought back to the last time his computer was hacked. ‘Could it be the same person?

‘But what was his motive?

With such advanced skills, he didn’t steal any trade secrets, simply browsing around like a visitor before leaving.

Was this just to irritate me?’
