The Otherside: Jay McClayn: This Is High School (Book 1)

Chapter 24

Once we walked back into the house from our ride, “Happy Birthday!” It was a surprise party. Alex, Rex, Amber, Snowflake, Harrison and a lot of soldiers were there. I was surprised, but I really should have seen it coming, and of course Harrison had a cake in his hands. It was a round cake, with a red heart that had a black J in the middle.

“Thanks guys.” I walked into the room more. Harrison set the cake down on an end table in the living room and put his right arm over my shoulders.

“As you know why we are here, we are not just here to celebrate a birthday, but also to say goodbye for half a year to the head of the rebellion. Yes, we will all miss her dearly, but this journey will help her grow and learn. And I know I speak for everyone when I say, Good luck Jamie and come home soon.” I hugged Harrison.

“Thank you, Harrison.” The night flew by. Dinner, cake, and thankfully not a whole lot of presents. Almost everyone got me flowers.

Eventually almost everyone left for home, but Rex, Amber and of course Harrison and Jason who reside here and Snowflake that is staying here in the attic. Harrison remodeled it with magic, we officially have a third floor now.

“Where is Alice?” I overheard Jason asking Rex in the Kitchen. I was in the living room with Harrison and Amber. They were exchanging stories, but I was more interested in Jason’s and Rex’s conversation in the kitchen.

“She left after you did. Amber and I have no clue where she went. We tried to calm her down, but you know her. It’s your fault.” Rex replied.

“Rex, I’m sorry. I should have held on hope in finding Jamie and shouldn’t have attempted to be with Alice.”

Rex cut Jason off before he could continue. “Don’t you say sorry to me. It’s Alice you should be saying that to.”

“Jay? Are you even listening?” I heard Harrison ask, snapping me out of the other conversation back into the one I was supposed to be in.

“I’m sorry, I spaced out.” I replied. “If you don’t mind I think I should pack and get to sleep. I need to rest up to for the big trip tomorrow.” Harrison smiled at my excuse.

“Go on ahead. Your plane leaves at 11 AM, okay?” He said making me aware of times.

“Okay, got it.” I then turned to Amber.

“It was nice seeing you and Rex again. Tell him I said goodbye?” I got up and Amber replied.

“Certainly dear.” I then left to my room.

Once I got to my room, I saw a black suitcase on my bed with a note on it:

Jay,

I hope this helps with packing, and serves you well on your trip.

Love,

Harrison

I took the note off and looked at the suitcase. It looked normal, but I was skeptical because it was from Harrison. I opened the suitcase, cautiously pulling the zipper, not knowing what to expect. When I opened it completely nothing happened it was an ordinary suitcase. I was a little shocked it was ordinary, but then I noticed a little red button. Curiosity got the best of me so I pushed it and the bottom of the suitcase rose to reveal a hanging closet for clothes. “So that is what he meant by hope this helps with packing.” I slid the suitcase to the floor and began hanging clothes on it. While doing so, I let the new information sink in. Alice is missing. She is either searching for me... or Jason... or both. I have a strange feeling she wants to find me. After I finished hanging clothes, I noticed the two drawers at the bottom for other things. I put my shoes in one and when I opened the second there was another note:

This bags is magically cloaked which means you can pack your dagger.

Harrison

I couldn’t help but to laugh a little. He really wants me to be safe. I packed my undergarments and then I put my bear, dagger and pocket knife in. When I was completely done packing, I noticed the red button on the outside of the closet. I hit it and the closet fell back down and it became I normal suitcase. The clothes I packed were magically folded in the bag. It was really cool. After I was done it was getting late, it was 11PM. I would have to leave at 10AM to get to the airport so I needed to wake up at 9AM. I set my alarm on my phone and slowly drifted off to sleep on my bed.
