The Otherside: Jay McClayn: A Quest For Love (Book 4)

Chapter 6

Once he got in his car with me I started a conversation. I needed to know more about his confusing roommate. Was he working for someone?

“So, how well do you know your roommate?” I asked just trying to strike up a conversation.

“I’m sorry about him, he needs to be kept on a leash. He is a big ladies man. Are you okay?” I think he was scared that Vincent scared me off.

“I’m fine, did something in his past make him that way?” I asked trying to see if Jason knew his past.

“I don’t think so. I think he was always like that. For the five years I knew him, he has always been chasing girls.” Jason replied. I found out what I needed to know Vincent must be working with whoever is behind this because he was there from the start.

The car got silent after the talk of Vincent. It took about 20 minutes before Jason brought up something from last night.

“So what did you say you were? Magically speaking I mean.” I was kind of shocked at first but then I remembered he knows nothing.

“I am a hybrid of witch, psychic and shapeshifter.” He glanced at me and then back at the road.

“So shapeshifter is how you looked like Alice last night, psychic is how you know my memories are false and witch...” I could see he got lost in trying to find an example.

“It was how I fixed my clothes.” I said helping him out.

“What did you say I was again?” he sounded a bit skeptical.

“Werewolf-wizard hybrid.” I said slightly scared of his response.

“Then I turn into a wolf... when?” I understood the problem. He did not understand the terms I was using fully.

“It’s only when you want. I’m not completely sure how it works for you. The first time I shifted, I was under a lot of distress... with things. But anyway, werewolves are not held to the moon with their powers anymore. Now the wizard aspect is a little more complicated.” It got quiet for a moment.

“When did you first shift? What were you doing?” I sighed. I was afraid of that question.

“Well, technically I shifted before this, but the first time I did not do it correctly.”

He cut me off. “What do you mean you didn’t do it correctly?”

I sighed. “Can I finish?” I asked rhetorically. I really was hoping to pass by my mistake. “To answer your question, I was trying to turn into a white tiger and well... my first time I accidentally turned into a white kitten.” He busted out laughing at me. “Quit laughing, unless you don’t want me to finish.” I felt the blushing heat from my cheeks.

“All right, I will stop.” he said calming his laughter down.

“Now, my first successful shift was a long time ago as well. I was under high amounts of emotional stress. It was because you and my friend Alex got in a huge fight. I was afraid you two were going to kill each other; that emotion was the push I needed to successfully change and break up the fight.”

He sighed. “Why don’t I remember?” he hit the steering wheel with his right hand, still holding it steady with his left hand. I didn’t know the answer either, but I knew the two people who did.

“That is what we are going to find out by talking to Harrison and Christina.” I replied and it went quiet until we got there.
