Julian and Carson had been playmates since they were children.

They were around the same age, but their lives were very different.

Julian was not treated well as a child, but Carson was the eldest son of the Walters family and was doted on by his parents. Carson also had a younger sister who was studying at the University of Highclere..

However, that did not stop the two from becoming good friends. Even when Julian had been abroad for many years, the two maintained their friendship.

The rumors from abroad never affected their relationship.

Julian never explained, and Carson did not ask, either.

Sometimes, the relationship between people was complicated.

And sometimes, it was just that simple.

Julian returned home late in the night. Marco was the one to send him home.

With Carson around. Julian had a couple more glasses of wine.

Everyone was already asleep when Julian got home. It was very quiet in the house.

Julian hung his jacket around his arm and made his way upstairs.

He pushed the door to his room open. The lights were still on. The first thing he

e saw was th

the girl sleeping on the couch.

The couch was not that big. The girl had a thin light-blue blanket over her. It covered her entire body and left only her tiny face out in the open.

Julian walked over to her and put down his jacket.

He hesitated before leaning down.

He picked her up together with the blanket and placed her on the bed.

Alexandra did not stir. She only felt slightly dizzy, as if she was floating in the clouds.

There was also a faint whiff of alcohol that dragged her down into unconsciousness.

Julian placed Alexandra on the bed.

Then, he sat down on the edge of the bed.

He bent over slightly and opened the cupboard of the bedside cabinet. There was a mini safe inside.

Unlocking the silver-grey safe with his fingerprint, Julian took out an old photo album from it.

It had photos of his mother when she was younger as well as photos of him when he was about three.

He flipped through the photos until he got to the end. It was a photo of a long-haired girl wearing a purple veil.

The photo was very blurry, and from its angle, one could tell that it was taken secretly.

Yoya.

A gifted pianist who had once made the news.

Chapter 16

Julian caressed the photo of the girl in white in the photo. His eyes were dark, and regret surfaced in them slowly.

Would he ever be able to find her?

The next day, Alexandra jumped out of bed. What was she doing on the bed?

Did she sleepwalk?

She looked to her side. It did not look like anyone had slept next to her. But the jacket that Julian had worn last night was on the couch.

Alexandra scratched her head. She pulled the blankets off her and got out of bed.

When she was done washing up and ready to leave, she saw the door across hers open. Julian emerged through the door.

Alexandra felt a little awkward and annoyed.

After making it through the first night, she would have to face the entire Ranford family.

Alexandra looked a little listless, but she still smiled at Julian and said, “Morning. Mr. Ranford. Did you sleep there last night?”

Julian scanned Alexandra from head to toe. She was wearing a beige dress today.

Her long hair draped over her shoulders, and she was wearing a white pearl hairclip on her hair.

Julian did not answer her question. Instead, he turned slightly and said to her, “Come in. I have something to talk to you about.”

Alexandra followed Julian into the study. Julian handed her a school admittance document, which made Alexandra confused.

She looked at Julian incredulously. “You want me to go to the University of Highclere

The University of Highclere was the best school in the country. The students there were all either wealthy, noble, or very

smart.

The best subjects of the school were computer science, digital intelligence, and classical music. There were year-round. exchanges with many famous international universities abroad.

Julian was much calmer than Alexandra. He had already planned this before marrying her.

He sat behind the desk and said calmly, “Yes. I will tell Grandma Josephine and Mom. Do you intend to stay at home all day and hang out with them?”

It did make sense, but Alexandra was a terrible student who had not even completed high school. She would die if she had to follow the University of Highclere’s curriculum.

The courses at the University of Highclere were all exceptional no matter if they were compared to local or international courses. Alexandra wouldn’t be able to understand anything if she went there.

Julian seemed to be able to tell what Alexandra was thinking about. He said, “You don’t need to pass or get good grades. Listen to the lectures if you can understand them. If you can’t, just treat them as character building.

Alexandra wanted to roll her eyes at Julian.

And in the end, she did roll her eyes at him.

Julian stood up and turned a blind eye to Alexandra’s silent protest. He continued, “Come to the hospital with me after

breakfast. Then, go to school in the afternoon. I have already spoken to Mr. Mr Fadden.”

Alexandra suddenly felt that she didn’t marry a husband. Instead, she had found a new dad for herself.

He had even gotten her into a good school that she didn’t even have to work hard to get into!

But thinking about it, she wasn’t losing out.

If she went to school every day, it would save her a lot of trouble. She wouldn’t have to stay Ranford women who did not like her.

Then… can I go and stay in the school darm?”

home and face the two

Alexandra was great at finding good in the bad. She quickly accepted the fact that she was going to study at the University of Highclere.

Then, a sudden thought occurred to her. Since she was going to study, could she stay within the school compound and not return to the Ranford family?

In that case, she would not have to face the two Ranford ladies during the day and wouldn’t have to fight for the bed with Julian at night. Wouldn’t that be perfect?

As soon as she said it, Julian set his eyes on her and stared at her deeply. It made Alexandra’s skin crawl.

He asked, “What do you think?”

Alexandra laughed and said, Tll come home on time.”

At the dining table, Julian told everyone about Alexandra going to the University of Highclere.

Caroline said. “The University of Highclere is a good school. Alexandra, you have to study hard and make Julian proud!”

Alexandra felt like blowing up. But when she thought of her wages, she swallowed her anger and said, “Julian has plenty to be proud of. Everyone in Highclere City knows him. If I make him even prouder, he’s going to be too prideful! 1 am going to the University of Highclere to broaden my horizons. I should learn some skills while I am still young so that I can do my part for the country!”

Everyone fell silent.

After breakfast, Julian brought Alexandra to the hospital where Philip was staying

They went inside through the back doors. Even though the Ranford family had already arranged for bodyguards to be stationed everywhere to prevent the reporters from taking photos and writing trashy articles that might affect Philip’s peaceful environment, Julian was still very careful.

Alexandra followed Julian into the VIP lift. Then, they went to the VVIP ward that Philip was in.

Philip had just undergone some tests the night before, so they were not allowed to enter his ward. The two stood before the glass windows and looked inside. This was Alexandra’s first time seeing Philip.

From her angle, Alexandra could not see Philip clearly. She could only see the white hospital bed and a bunch of colorful

tubes and wires.

Philip was wearing an oxygen mask, and there were also tubes running from his nose.

The critically ill patients that Alexandra had seen in dramas looked exactly like that.
