The Maze Bummer: Chapter 13
Minho and Thomas crept up to the door of the yogurt store.
“Do you think they offer a student discount?” said Thomas.
“Keep quiet!” said Minho. “Just follow me.” He cracked open the door slowly, stepped inside, and immediately began to fall as if he’d stepped off a ledge.
Thomas reached out and grabbed Minho, catching him at the last minute. Thomas couldn’t believe what he was seeing. The only thing behind the door was a dark, star-filled sky. It was a cliff of some sort, and Minho had almost fallen off.
“Holy klunkin’ klunkity klunk!” said Minho as he pulled himself up from the cliff. “What the klunk is going on?
“It can’t be real,” Thomas said, looking out at the stars. “The Heavers wouldn’t just walk into space. It has to be an illusion.”
“Well I’m not jumping off and testing it,” said Minho. “Wait, hold on.” Minho grabbed a crumpled up yogurt cup from the ground and threw it off the cliff. As soon as the cup got a foot away from the cliff, it vanished. It was like someone had taken an eraser and magically made it disappear.
“Cool!” said Thomas. He picked up some discarded cups and tried the same thing, and they all vanished a foot from the ledge.
“You know what this means?” said Minho.
“Yes!” said Thomas. “We’ve solved the world’s garbage problem!”
“No, you klunkhead,” said Minho. “It means we might’ve finally found a way out of here.”
