The Marriage That Never Was (Leonard and Lisa )

Chapter 86

Chapter 86

“I’ll head over now.” After hanging up the phone, Leonard turned to Lisa. His eyes showed a faint apology, “I’m sorry. I have an urgent meeting to attend.”

“Oh, it’s okay. I can drive there myself later,” Lisa said, not paying too much attention. She had initially planned to say goodbye to him at the door. “Go ahead and settle your matters first.”

“All right.” Leonard entered the car. As he drove away, he looked through the rearview mirror and saw Lisa standing on the dimly lit street. She was watching his car drive away from a distance and probably felt disappointed. Sᴇaʀ*ᴄh the (F)indNƟvᴇl.ɴet website on Gøøglᴇ to access chapters of novels early and in the highest quality.

Leonard knew Lisa valued money.

‘She spent several hundred to book the room, only for me to stand her up and leave so suddenly.’

Leonard felt regretful. He thought he could fulfill her needs but did not expect any hiccups. He checked the time and saw it was only 8 p.m.

‘I might be able to make it to the suite if the meeting ends earlier.’

With that thought in mind, he sped to the office.

Half an hour later, Lisa completed the check-in procedures and settled into the luxurious couple’s suite. The suite was quite impressive. Its windows offered a view of the liveliest pedestrian street in Queenston.

Lisa called Celine to ask where she was. Celine replied that she needed to tidy up some things at her previously rented apartment and could come after that.

While waiting for Celine, Lisa decided to take a relieving bath and put on a robe from the hotel. She put on a movie and leaned back on the sofa to enjoy the film. After watching TV for a while, she got bored, and her gaze fell on the red wine at the bar.

Lisa was not much of a drinker, but the drinks were complimentary. She checked the original price online, which was pretty expensive, so not drinking it seemed like a waste.

After contemplating, Lisa opened the bottle and poured the wine into a glass. She felt delighted as she held the wine glass and continued to watch the movie next to the beautiful night sky outside the floor-to-ceiling windows.

Unable to resist, she took a selfie and sent it to Celine, saying, “Hurry up. I’ve been waiting for you.”

Celine replied, “I need more than an hour to get to your place. Don’t get yourself drunk before I arrive.”

“No, I’ll just drink a little.”

“Do you want a midnight snack?”

“Sure, bring some drinks and pizza.”

Lisa continued to enjoy the movie after texting Celine. It was a bit mind-boggling, so she kept sipping the wine as she watched. However, she unknowingly finished about half the bottle.

Meanwhile, Leonard checked the time and quickly signed the contract with Johanson.

“Leonard, I feel like you’re in more of a rush than I am,” Johanson teased, “Did my last-minute change of schedule mess up your date with your girlfriend?”

Johanson palmed his head as soon as he finished. He corrected himself, “Oh, my mistake! I heard you got married not too long ago, right?”

Leonard would not even bother answering such a question in the past, but today, he replied briefly. “Yeah.”

Jackson was standing nearby and looked at Leonard with surprise. He knew how much Leonard disliked Lisa.

Johanson laughed. “I hope to hear good news from you next year. Let’s go. I’ve taken too much of your time.”

After sending Johanson to his car, Jackson asked, “Mr. Leonard, are you driving home, or should I send you back?” “I’ll drive myself.” Leonard entered his car, started the engine, and checked the time. It was 10 p.m.
