The Marriage That Never Was (Leonard and Lisa )

Chapter 56

Chapter 56

“Thank you for your kind offer, but you can give those to Stephanie.” Lisa spoke politely, “Please stop disturbing my family. I have no desire to return to your family. Just contact me when it’s time for the divorce.”

“What are you talking about, Lisa? I’ve already apologized.” Leonard massaged his throbbing temples. “Can you just tell me what you want? Just tell me, and I’ll do as you say.”

“No. Your family is wealthy and influential. I don’t need you to do anything for me. Besides, I’ve already admitted my mistake.” sᴇaʀᴄh thᴇ FindNʘᴠᴇl.nᴇt website on Gøøglᴇ to access chapters of novels early and in the highest quality.

Leonard sensed that Lisa’s demeanor was calm, devoid of sarcasm or sharpness, entirely unlike her past self. Somehow, he would rather have her be as assertive as she used to be.

“Lisa, come home with me. I promise to change the way I treat you, okay?”

Lisa rejected without hesitation, “I don’t want to go back. We agreed to make your family hate me and then get a divorce, but living with you is exhausting. On the first day, you told me to leave. The second day, you accused me of being a thief.

“The day after that, you accused me of harming your mother. Your family makes me insecure, and I don’t want to compromise my me ntal health. Though I’m strong, my heart is still made of flesh.”

She continued, “Also, I’m still studying, and summer vacation is about to end. All this chaos is affecting my studies. I plan on renting a small apartment.”

Her decisive and resolute response made Leonard feel a twinge of discomfort. “If you don’t want to stay with my family, we can move to the villa.”

Lisa was surprised for a few seconds but remained unmoved. “No. You don’t like me, and we won’t be happy living under the same roof. I’ll be more comfortable renting a small apartment on my own. Just call me when the divorce papers are ready.”

Leonard remained silent.

Since he gave no reply, Lisa said, “I’m going to hang up now. Goodbye.”

The phone call ended with a beep.

Leonard could not find any fault with Lisa. She was not angry nor indifferent. She had not said anything harsh and even ended the call politely. Nevertheless, he still felt a heavy weight on his chest.

After leaving Sebastian’s house, Leonard called Jackson. “Find out where Lisa is.”

Lisa put down her phone and stared at her reflection in the bathroom mirror. Half of her face was as swollen as a burger bun, and it hurt when she touched it.

She sighed.

‘Did I want to cuss Leonard out on the phone earlier? Of course, I did, but I’ve decided to cut ties with the Parker family. Holding on will only serve as openings for more entanglements with them.’

She reminded herself about the principle of leaving a way out for oneself. The incident with Leonard’s mother last night had scarred her. The Parker family resembled giants, crushing her and Isabella like ants.

The most urgent task, for now, was finding an apartment for herself instead of staying in a hotel. Lisa planned to rent a place near campus to go back and rest during her free time. She could not wait to get a nest of her own.

After over a day at the Parker Corporation, Jackson finally found Lisa’s whereabouts.

“Sir, Ms. Lisa is currently staying at a hotel. She’s been looking for a new apartment over the last few days. I heard from the real estate agency that she’s interested in finding an affordable place near her campus. Her budget is just a few hundred dollars.”

Leonard frowned, feeling a little puzzled. “Land in a developed city like Queenston is precious, especially near the university. Finding a nice place for a few hundred is highly unlikely.

“Doesn’t her mother run a company? I heard she earns millions every year. Lisa should be inheriting the business soon, so why is she so reluctant to spend money?”
