Chapter 54
Chapter 54
Even Melissa disagreed with her eldest daughter-in-law. “I can’t have sweets, but does that mean no one else can have them? Besides, Lisa is still young. People her age love sweets.
“She probably put the cake in the refrigerator because she thought it would taste better when chilled during the summer. You know what? It did taste better. It’s been so long since I’ve had such a delicious cake,”
After speaking, Melissa seemed to savor the memory.
The three Parker men fell silent and thought, ‘How did this discussion become about food?’
Melissa continued, “Maybe she didn’t expect me to come home so suddenly,”
At this point, the three Parker men were at a loss for words, especially Leonard, whose right hand trembled violently. It was the same hand that slapped Lisa the day before.
He knew how strong he was, and she must have been in pain. It looked like her lips were even bleeding.
She must have felt wronged. All she did was buy a cake to indulge in, but she could not even have any. In addition, whenever anything went wrong, the Parker family immediately blamed and punished her without hearing her side of the story.
Not to mention, if she had not given insulin to Melissa in time, the consequences could have been unimaginable.
“We went overboard yesterday,” Jeffrey admitted in shame. “I saw Leonard hit her, and it looked quite hard. I wonder how she’s doing now.”
“Huh, you hit Lisa?!” Melissa frowned at her son. “Even if you don’t like your wife, you can’t hit her!”
Leonard turned slightly pale. “I thought she wanted to hurt you.”
“Even so, you need evidence. At the very least, you should’ve waited for me to wake up before taking action.”
Leonard fell silent for a moment. He could not understand what was wrong with him and why he always assumed the worst of
Lisa
‘Why am I this way?’
Ultimately, his prejudice against Lisa got the better of him.
David sighed deeply. “We misunderstood Lisa again. Leonard, you should head back home and apologize to her.”
“She’s not home,” Leonard said with a bitter expression. “When I went there last night to get my clothes, she had already left with her luggage.”
“She probably went back to her family. Go there quickly and bring her back. Bring her a gift while you’re at it. After all, they’re family now,” David advised.
Leonard nodded. He knew he had messed up this time, especially by hurting her. Apologizing was the right thing to do. However, he rarely apologized to girls. Just saying sorry without a gift would seem insincere.
He wondered what Lisa would appreciate.
Once in the car, Leonard called Lucas. “Hey, tell me, what’s a good apology gift for a woman?”
“What did you do to Lisa?” Lucas asked, full of curiosity.
Leonard choked. “How’d you know it was Lisa?”
“How you treat Lisa compared to Stephanie is like night and day. You’ve always been a perfect gentleman to Stephanie. That means it couldn’t have been her
you offended.”
Leonard’s expression fell, and he said with mixed emotions, “Is it that obvious?”
“Definitely. Last night at dinner, Lisa even supported you being with Stephanie, but your behavior… Honestly, your disrespect ~for Lisa is apparent.
“Regardless of future decisions or who you truly like, Lisa is still your wife. You were getting close to Stephanie despite so
many people present, including Lisa’s older sister. When you left, you didn’t even say goodbye.”
