Chapter 35
Chapter 35
Sebastian wished to slap Lisa.
“Sebastian, control your filthy thoughts,” Josephine said, disgusted, “I must’ve been blind when I married you all those years ago. I didn’t kill you when you cheated on me because of our daughter.”
“Josephine, don’t listen to her nonsense. She’s just trying to stir up trouble. If it weren’t for Isabella seducing me back then, I wouldn’t have betrayed my family.”
“Sebastian, you’re going too far. If you hadn’t lied to my mom and told her you were divorced, my mom wouldn’t have ended up with you.”
“Lisa…” Leslie felt overwhelmed. The meeting had not started yet, but the trio was already at each other’s throats.
“Enough arguing. Remember, today is the meeting of our two families.” Leslie finally intervened, unable to bear it any longer. “What will Chris’s family think if they see us like this?”
The trio immediately fell silent.
A few moments later, Josephine muttered, “It doesn’t matter what they see. You’re the daughter of the prestigious Stark family who married a divorced professor and became a stepmother to someone else’s child. You’re climbing the Tannin family’s social ladder.”
“Mom, I beg you, please stop saying these things.”
“Fine, let’s go upstairs.” Josephine checked the time and realized their argument had already caused a ten-minute delay, further souring her mood.
Leslie pushed the door to the private room open.
Christopher’s parents had arrived a while ago. They appeared to be in their fifties, wearing glasses and dressed modestly. They exuded a scholarly appearance. The elderly couple sat on either side of Chelsea, with Grace Tannin lovingly giving almonds to her granddaughter.
Lisa frowned upon seeing this scene since the Tannin family doted on Chelsea. If the little girl had been easy to get along with, there would not be any issues between Leslie and the little girl.
However, Chelsea was young yet cu nning. If she instigated something when the elderly couple was present, it would cause conflict between Leslie and her in-laws.
“Mom, Dad, these are Leslie’s parents and her sister Lisa.” Christopher stood up and introduced the two families, thoughtfully pouring drinks for all three of them.
“Mm.” His father, Charles, nodded. “Mr. and Mrs. Jones, please have a seat.’
Once everyone took their seats, Grace smiled and observed Lisa and Leslie. “You two are blessed to have such beautiful daughters. Each one possesses her own unique beauty.”
Sebastian and Josephine remained silent.
Fortunately, Leslie had already informed Christopher about her parent’s divorce, so he quickly said, “Mom, Dad, today’s meeting is to discuss my wedding with Leslie.
“Since Leslie married me at such a young age, I’m committed to treating her well, especially with the wedding. Weddings are the most significant event in most women’s lives.”
“Of course, we can’t overlook the importance of the wedding. Leslie, your mother and I have many influential friends who will undoubtedly attend the wedding banquet. Typically, the weddings they attend are held at five-star hotels or even higher, so Leslie’s wedding should be nothing less.”
