The Indifferent Luna 1 - Austan wolf

Chapter CHAPTER 49

The first thing we did was to steal uniforms, even though the pack wolves had cleared away the dead body and had probably buried them somewhere within the pack, we could easily steal from the border patrols. So that was what we did.

We appeared like ghosts a few minutes before dawn killing the few border patrols and having some of our men take their places then we snuck into the pack, they might have been prepared for our first attack but they weren’t prepared for the second. They probably thought we would still be licking our wounds but we already had enough time to heal. We were warriors after all.

First, we looked for their most treasured weapon and it was not hard to find. The warehouse where the vaporized bane was kept was heavily guarded by pack warriors wearing oxygen masks.

I crouched in the forest with the few people that surrounded me and looked at the warehouses wondering why they, werewolves needed so many vaporized wolf bane. Were they planning to start a war against their kind? I wondered as I thought about the four warehouses we had seen when we were surrounding the pack.

“What should we do now?” I heard one of the wolves with me ask.

From the moment they agreed to follow me, I could not only hear their thoughts through the link if not well guarded, I could also give an order to everyone at once through the link.

“Let’s burn them to the ground.” I said through the link enough for everyone to hear. If we set it on fire, the heat would burst open whatever it was they stored the wolf bane in, and before they knew what was happening, a lot of concentrated wolf bane would be in the air, suffocating and poisoning everyone in this pack.

Then the neighboring packs would know that the Grata Night pack had dug the pit of their own death, their greed probably caused a fire and killed everyone in the pack. They would say. I smiled as the thought of it was satisfying. No one would know of our involvement except the alpha of Grata night course who I would allow to watch the show before killing.

“Make sure no one escapes the moment the air becomes diffused.” I said through the link and they all agreed.

“The moment the commotion starts, four of us would go get Ramon, the rest of you, gather as much food as you can. Those at the border can keep the people in.” I reissued orders and they nodded.

“Let’s begin.”

.............

The first sound of commotion came from far away. It was a loud explosion followed by screams of fleeing people. The second explosion followed, then the third, before the warehouse in front of me exploded.

Two of the dark knights had earlier snuck to the window with manually lit fire, avoiding the patrols, they threw the fire in. the place must have been highly flammable because it didn’t take long for the explosion to happen.

“Foolish wolves.” Rieka said as we watched the pack wolves run helter-skelter for some minutes before vomiting blood and dying.

The only people who seemed unaffected by the toxic atmosphere were the guards who were in masks but even they were injured by the force of the explosion.

“Kill those guards.” I mind-linked the others before turning around and running towards the alpha’s home.

No one paid any attention to me or the four warriors who ran with me. People were busy running for their lives while others were falling dead.

“This is a really easy way to finish people off.” I said to Rieka as I walked towards the Alpha’s front door.

When we came here the first time, we tried to sneak in through the window like thieves, this time we were walking in through the front door.

“Yeah, but it’s not fun.” Rieka replied and I smiled faintly.

Rieka preferred getting her hands dirty. I thought as I yanked open the door of the Alpha’s home which also served as the pack house, and walked in earning myself the surprised look of everyone.

I also returned the look of surprise wondering why a lot of people were staying here safe from the turmoil outside. The living room of the Alpha’s home was filled to the brim with a lot of the pack members. I was sure it was mostly those who lived there.

Funny how their alpha didn’t care about the people dying outside but protected the few that were left in here. But how? I wondered as I accessed them.

Then it occurred to me. Magic. The magic protected them from the gas outside just as it did the wolf I previously fought with. They were surprised because they clearly didn’t understand how I and the warriors behind me could walk in without being stopped by the barrier.

A satisfying smile played on my lips as I remembered why.

Blood rage.

The barrier that had been broken by my appearance allowed the contaminated air to diffuse into the house and the men and women who were shocked began to go into hysteria as the children began to choke first. The men rushed to me to fight, but I stepped out of the way allowing the knights behind me to do nothing but push them outside into the dense wolf bane they had stored on their pack land.

Why were they getting so angry? How was this my fault? Could they blame me? Their alpha was to blame he was the one who never thought of his pack members or the children when he decided to keep something so lethal within his pack. The fool even stored them in large quantities.

I avoid the people running around in hysteria and walked up the stairs leisurely following the scent of wolves where ever I found one and opening every door, letting the magic there break and the wolf bane slip in.

I opened the final door on the third floor and found the one I sort. The Alpha! He was a huge muscular man.

I was no longer the tiny Silveen I used to be and have grown some muscles myself but he was huge, really huge and he was prepared. He had a mask on.

Probably got himself one when he heard the shout of his people downstairs, beside him, were his beta, gamma, his wife, and probably his son. All masked up and waiting.

I smiled slightly and folded my arms around my chest as the men growled putting the only woman and child in the room behind them. The beta and gamma stood in front of the Alpha who had his Luna and son behind him. The Luna hugged her son tightly to shield him from me, I guess.

“They can’t leave alive even if you get past me.” I declared leisurely.

“You monster. How can you kill so many innocent women and children without thinking twice, aren’t you a woman too!” The Luna who was obviously weeping accused.

“I killed them?” I asked with a scoff, “When did I do such a thing? Was I the one who stored wolf bane in warehouses on my pack land? Was it I who was greedy enough to not think of the consequence of an accident involving this wolf bane on my land? Are you a daft woman or is the mate bond making you too blind to see the grave your mate dug for you?” I asked looking at them. The woman wept uncontrollably.

“You greedy man, you even have an eight-year-old pup. How can you....?” I stopped halfway and sighed.

“I don’t care, where is Ramon?” I said getting back to business. The Luna’s accusation made me feel a little soft earlier but that was over.

“Hand over my friend and I might just let the boy go alive.” I threatened and the beta laughed.

“You should worry about you leaving this place alive pup.” He said and Rieka bristled with anger.

“Did he just call us a pup?” she thundered and I had the urge to laugh but I didn’t.

I just stepped into the room and so did the vaporized wolf bane. The men’s faces registered shock, even though they knew that we had somehow infiltrated, they didn’t think it was something as trivial as walking in.

“You were saying?” I asked again and the insulted beta lunged for I quickly dodged and kicked him out of the room but not before snapping the strap of the oxygen mask behind his head.

It fell to the ground rolling away as he also fell, he glanced at me in surprise and I smiled. He immediately rushed to pick it up as he covered his mouth and nose with his hand but one of the knights with me who had just arrived kicked it out of his reach. While the other grabbed the beta and forced him to breathe in the air while we all watched.

“Papa!” The child that was being protected suddenly screamed and ran out of his mother’s embrace toward the beta.
