Chapter 26
How was I supposed to use my powers on a known Pack Member? It was not like it was before with Summer. She had antagonized me and I had snapped. And when I had been with Amilia, we had been in danger. I was not sure where my powers came from, how I had been “blessed” with them. I had not been sure if he really understood my powers himself or if he had just chosen to believe in them. Now, when faced with what Cal was asking me to show him what I was made of, I had no idea what to do. He stood there, arms crossed over his chest, waiting. “Any day, now, your Grace,” he said. I shook my head, hiding my hands behind my back. “It’s not that simple. I have no idea how to use them. I only just started using them,” I reminded him. Cal shrugged. “Then show me what you can do,” he ordered me. I eyed him. I did not like his tone. He was an arrogant one. I could tell from the way he carried himself. I hoped it was just because we were training. Amilia would have her hands full with him if he was like this all the time. Cal nodded and turned away from me. “Perhaps we should start with something a little more subtle. Show me how you defend yourself in a dangerous situation,” he instructed. He walked over to the weapons wall and picked up a stack of Shuriken. When he turned to face me, all humor from his face was gone. “Let’s say you were being attacked by a Vamp, as I had heard this Manor has had quite the trouble with them here as of late. Shuriken is a japanese blade, otherwise known as hidden star or hidden blade. They are fast and they hurt. Not deadly, however they can cause a good deal of damage,” he told me. I nodded. “OK... so you want me to throw them at the dummy?” I asked, pointing at the dummy at the far end of the room. The far end of the room where Larson’s cell had been. I wondered now why, whoever it had been, his heart had been removed from his chest. Had it been the Vamps? Had it beenthe other wolf? Cal’s laugh brought me back to my current situation. “No,” he said. “I am going to throw them at you and I want you to use your power to deflect them.” He held up the Shuriken and smiled. I felt my jaw drop. “I have never deflected anything like that before. I can do an Astral projection but that is it!” I said and backed away from him. “Well, Amilia said you can Shadow Jump, too! And I have to say, that is a talent you will want to perfect!” he reminded me. “It could save your life one day, you know?”I didn’t answer. I already knew all of this. I was just worried about messing up and embarrassing Elijah somehow. The new information about my being a witch and the rest of the Pack knowing about it bothered me still. Tay and Lily had not come near me since the night Reid had been caught in the Manor. He had told the whole Court about me. I sighed and tried to shake the negative thoughts away. Elijah wanted me to learn how to control my power in order for me to become a stronger Queen. I sighed and wondered again when we would be fully mated. I jumped when Cal cleared his throat and he laughed at me. “Jumpy little thing, aren’t you?” he teased me. I glowered at him. “You are supposed to be teaching me, so you should do so,” I told him, nodding to the weapons in his hands. He nodded, his face becoming smooth as he walked to the other end of the room. He turned back to face me, his expression blank. “Elijah told me he wanted me to teach you in Shadow Humping techniques only, however, as your subject, I would like to know if you would like to learn all there is to learn about the Dark Arts?” he asked me. I folded his hands behind his back, waiting for me to answer. I watched him, eyebrows raised. “So, just so I understand this right,” I said, skimming a finger along a rack of wooden training swords. “You want to teach me the Dark Arts, even though Elijah said to only teach me about Shadow Jumping?” I asked, turning to face Cal once I reached the end of the rack. He was still standing at the end of the room, where the cell had been that had held Larson. He smiled and bowed his head. “You are after all, half witch, My Queen. You should know how to use your power when you need to. And if I am able to give you the information and tools you need to protect yourself, I feel duty bound to give you all the information you need. There is so much more than just being able to Shadow Jump,” he reminded me. I nodded. “So even if it means going against your Kings orders you want to teach me what I need to know not what he wants me to know?” I asked him. Cal sighed. “If you do not want to learn what you should know, I can not force you. I can teach you what I have been asked to teach you. It is up to you,” he told me. I sighed and grabbed up a wooden training sword from the wall. I was tired of talking. I wanted to go, I wanted to do something. I had so much pent up frustration and rage that I needed to find an outlet. “Well, how about we see how good I am at Shadow Jumping before we do anything else,” I suggested. Cal nodded and smiled, holding his hand out, palm up and reaching. The wooden sword in my hand jerked and then suddenly was flying across the room and slapped right into Cal’s waiting hand.I blinked.“How did you do that?” I demanded. Was I able to do things like that? Did I have that kind of power? “Magic,” Cal replied. He eyed me, his face impassive. I sighed and crossed my arms. “Magic is within you. It is part of you. Part of your being. You are one with the magic inside of you. You are part of ot and it is part of you” he told me I nodded, not really understanding. If that were the case, I should have been able to use my powers at will, and not just when I am in danger? Sure there was magic inside of me, yet how was I supposed to tell him I was a half witch too? I sighed. It was hard enough knowing that Elijah knew. I wondered again at how he was OK with this. How could he be so calm and collected with the fact that his mate was a half breed. I sighed and dropped my arms, my anger at my mother growing. She should have told me. She should have been the one to tell me what I was instead of trying to “protect me”. “Are you ready?” Cal asked me, holding the training weapon at me. I nodded. “Good. Now, I want you to use your power and come and get this from me,” he said. I sighed and closed my eyes, looking for the shadow inside me, that dark myst like power. I searched and searched, however nothing came to the surface. I growled in frustration and my eyes snapped open. My hands were raised and my breathing was labored. Cal was standing in the middle of the room, looking shocked. After a moment I understood why. Every object that had been hanging on the walls, things that had been on the floor, such as tumble mats- even dust was suspended in mid air, facing Cal. He had his hands held up in surrender. “OK, Faye, calm down,” he whispered. I sighed and nodded. “I am calm, Cal,” I reminded him. He glanced back at me, his face worried. “What do I do now?” I asked him. “Yeah, Cal, what does she do now?” Elijah ecoded behind me. Everything that had been in the air dropped loudly to the ground. Everything but a sharp dagger that flew straight at Elijah as I turned to face him. The dagger grazed passed his arm and dug itself into the wall. Elijah’s growl filled the room and he was on Cal in a flash, pinning him against the wall, his hand wrapped around the neck. “Elijah!” He ignored me, his eyes fixed on Cal. “I gave you strict orders not to teach her to do anything dangerous!” he thundered. “Would you like to return to banishment?”I walked around them, trying to get Elijah to see me. “Elijah, stop! He was doing as I asked him!” I said. He ignored me, his claws piercing Cal’s neck now. “If you kill him-”“Amilia will live!” he snapped, his other hand coming up to strike Cal. “Stop!” I ordered, grabbing onto his arm. “Elijah, you are angry right now, I get that, but I asked him to teach me things I need to know, not what you want me to know!”Cal closed his eyes in defeat. “Faye... it won’t help,” he choked. Elijah growled. “He’s right, it won’t help!” he seethed. I shook my head. I knew Elijah had been against. “I specifically told you not to put her in danger!”I grabbed his arm again. “He didn’t! The weapons were pointing at him, not me!” I reminded him. Elijah sighed and shook his head. “You told him to show me how to defend myself and that is what he was doing! I am able to move things with my mind at will now. I should be able to control that. If I run into Orais then I am sure that would come in handy!” Elijah sighed and released him. I gripped his arm and made him face me. I checked his arm where the dagger had grazed him. It was already healed, the blood smeared on his skin. I dropped my hands to my sides, doubt filling me. I had just injured my Mate. What else would I do before I gained control of my powers? How long would it take for me to get used to being half witch? As the words left my mouth I watched Elijah’s face twist with rage. “You will never find out because you will never even get the chance to try and fight him, Faye!” he snapped at me. I watched the anger rage in his eyes and waited. I knew it would fade and when it did, he would see how vitle this could be. He would see how important it could be for me to know how to control my powers. Right? I sighed. The Great Spirit was testing us. He was testing me. As the anger faded from his features and sighed. “You know I need this. I could be of great use to the Tribe. You know this-”Elijah sighed and gripped my shoulders. “I do not want you anywhere near him,” he said flatly. I nodded. “I understand that,” I assured him. “However, you need to think about the rest of the Tribe. It is more than just me. I am your Mate and you need to trust me!”His eyes went cold once again. “But You’re not my Mate, are you?” he demanded. I felt the blood leave my face and a pinching pain gripped my chest. “Are-are you rejecting me?”Elijah laughed, his mood changing yet again. “Of course not!” he assured me. Cal cleared his throat and bowed before us. “Perhaps I should leave,” he said quickly. Elijah threw him a venomous look. “That would be in your best interest!” he hissed. Cal bowed before us and backed out of the room quickly. I waited for his footsteps to retreat down the hall before I turned to face Elijah. “You shouldn’t be so mean to him. He is your sister’s Mate,” I reminded him. Elijah sighed and turned back to face me. “Pack your bags!” he told me. My heart sank. Was he kicking me out? “You just said you weren’t rejecting me!” I said, my voice coming out barely a whisper. How was this happening? “Elijah, whatever I did-” I stopped, my voice cracking, my throat closing up. Realization washed over his face and he laughed a little. “By the Great Spirit!” he chuckled. “Faye, I am not rejecting you! I need you to pack a bag so we can go up to the family cabin in the woods. The cabin is near the Great Lakes and it will be about a two hour drive to get there. So the sooner we leave the sooner we can get there and the sooner...” he stopped suddenly, his bright green eyes going dark. “I need to feel you!”I felt myself blush. I understood the need all too well. Heat washed through me and I nodded, unable to speak. In my head I was wondering why the sudden change of plans. He had said it was not safe to go anywhere and now he was ready to leave on a moment’s notice. I sighed, my mind running a mile a minute. There things I had wanted to do before going out there with him. I needed to shop. And I needed Amila. “You look troubled,” Elijah noted. “Tell me what you are thinking please?”I blushed again. “I need to go pamper myself before we-...before I-”Elijah placed a finger to my lips. “I am sure you are perfect, Love. I do not wish to spend any more time away from you then I have to!” he murmured, leaning forward. His lips pressed to mine for a moment and in that simple kiss alone I could feel the longing and need it came with. A sigh left my lips and my arms wrapped around him, holding him to me. Before we could get too carried away, Elijah pulled away, his face sour and mocking. “You should go then. Amilia will be more than happy to go with you,” he said, brushing my bottom lip with his thumb. “Make sure you make it back to me before dark.”I smiled and pulled him to me, my lips pressing to his. Elijah lifted me into his arms, his lips going to my Mark. I gasped when his lips pressed to the now faint pink scar on my neck. My hands were no longer my own. My hands went up and my fingers knotted in his hair, pressing his lips harder to my skin. I heard him laugh, his teeth grazing the sensitive flesh. “Faye, you are making it hard for me-”
Someone cleared their throat behind us and I pushed off of Elijah. He released me and I stumbled a little, trying to regain my balance. We both turned to find Summer in the doorway along with Amilia. Summer looked like she had been dragged through hell. Her dress was ripped, her hair matted with blood and there were bruises that were not healing on her arms and face. Amilia had a worried look on her face. “What is she doing here?” Elijah demanded. Amilia looked up at him. “I granted her entrance, brother. She was in need of a place to go and I gave it to her,” she said before Summer could speak. Elijah’s growl filled the room, it was loud and reminded me of an oncoming freight train. “She was banished and I warned her if she ever returned I would kill her!” he reminded Amilia. Amilia nodded. “I know. That is why I am willing to take her place but I am sure you will have a change of heart once you know why she has come back,” Amilia said. Elijah held up his hand. “Not here. This is a matter held in the Throne Chamber. Meet me there in ten,” he said and reached for my hand. I followed him down the hall and to our room. Elijah instructed me to change my clothes. I dressed myself in a simple sundress and brushed out my hair. When I came back out into the hallway, Sophie was with him. When she saw me she smiled. “Faye, dear, how are you”? she asked me. I nodded and forced a smile on my face. “I have been better,” I admitted. Elijah cleared his throat and held his hand out for mine. “Shall we?” he asked me. I placed my hand in his, a sinking feeling in the pit of my stomach. Something was off. There was a storm coming. Had I known at the time how bad things were going to get, I would have up and left as soon as I was able even if it meant I would be hurting Elijah. Yet here I was, this heowing sensce of unease growing in my belly.
