Chapter 20
"It blew up," Kylan told Ella as she scrolled through all the comments underneath Ashley's tweet; the only reason Ella was angry was because she had used Kylan's name. His homosexuality was kept under the rug, but now everybody at school knew, or at least most people. Additionally, Jonah was revealed to be gay as well, and it was merely the beginning of their relationship, and drama was already in the midst of occurring. Ella sighed, raising her head and realizing that Kylan was pulling into the school's parking lot. There were groups of friends standing by their cars, and Kylan pushed his glasses further up his bridge after a long sigh. He knew he was going to get teased, and maybe worse than before. Ella noticed the worried gaze on his face and patted his shoulder, "Stop worrying about it; defend yourself. I'll be there to protect you too."
Kylan shook his head, "I'm mostly worried about Jonah. He didn't seem too pleased about that."
"Nobody would be. He'll come around, though, don't worry."
"I don't want it to change his mind-"
"It won't," Ella assured, "now let's get in the school."
As they descended the vehicle, Kylan waited until Ella was beside him before they began walking. However, instantly the teasing began, as a group of seniors hanging around a truck screamed, "That's the homo!"
"So what if it is?!" Ella growled back almost instantly, and Kylan was forced to grab her shoulder and pull her forward. It instantly became worst the minute he entered the school. As he walked towards his locker, a senior guy bumped into him, shoved into his shoulder before chuckling and saying, "Oh no, am I going to turn gay now?"
"You think that's funny?!" Ella roared angrily at that guy, but Kylan calmed her down, wrapping an arm around her shoulders and pushing her forward.
He was not surprised to find his locker to have papers on them. However, one of the notes caused his heart to shrivel; it said fag. He had gotten gay hate before, but that was one word that did irk him. It also angered Ella, who ripped the note from his locker along with the other ones and forced them into a ball, cursing at it. However, she noticed a gloomy shadow over Kylan as he opened his locker, and Ella sighed quietly.
"Tell people the rumors are fake"
"But they are not, Ella," he said.
She shrugged her shoulders, "Just so people could stop teasing you."
He shook his head sadly, "It's fine "
"Ky."
The deep familiar voice caused his heart to burst, and instantly his nerves became wild with uncontrollable hormones. He glanced over his shoulder and forced himself to turn back his head, not wanting to seem a bit too perverted. However, Jonah could instantly see a sadness echo from Kylan's atmosphere, and he frowned as he approached him, "Are you okay?"
He slowly nodded his head, "I'll be fine-"
"What's going on?" Jonah's eyes darted to Ella when Kylan remained silent, and Ella shrugged her shoulders, swirling on her heels and leaving them to have their conversation. When Kylan did not raise his chin, Jonah attempted to press a palm on Kylan's lower back, but when he flinched and jerked away from his hand, Jonah was growing annoyed. However, he noticed Kylan's worried eyes examining the surroundings, and a short sigh of relief escaped when the walking students would not even glance in their directions as they walked by.
Jonah grabbed Kylan's chin and turned it to face him. He leaned forward aggressively and placed his lips on Kylan's, who kept his lips slammed shut as he pushed Jonah on his chest. That was the last straw for Jonah, who cursed under his breath, "What the fuck is wrong with you today?"
Kylan shook his head, turning back towards his locker, quietly whispering, "Nothing."
"There is something, and you're not telling me. So whenever you're done acting up," he stepped away, "you know where to find me."
When Jonah disappeared, Kylan leaned against the locker beside him, his fingers trembling. Although this mocking and teasing never affected him before, oddly enough, it felt as if he was growing weaker and weaker by every insult. He wanted them to stop but was too nervous to rebuttals and did not want to create scenes. He wanted them to stop since homosexuality was nothing new to the world, but they were acting as if it was a disease and cancer.
He sighed sadly, closing his locker and heading to his first period class. However, right when he was about to turn to enter his classroom, a random senior placed his foot in Kylan's tracks, causing him to fall and slam his nose into the floor. Kylan hissed, and as he leaned upwards, he felt drips falling from his nose; he was bleeding.
"Sorry, homo," the senior laughed as he continued walking.
Luckily, Professor Miller had seen the situation and jogged towards the exit, attempting to find the student who had tripped him. The student had already disappeared down the hall, and Professor Miller helped Kylan up, "You can go to the infirmary Kylan."
Jonah had not yet grabbed his seat, and when he heard the commotion outside, and Professor Miller exit the classroom with such rapidity, he curiously followed and peered outside with a smirk on his face, wondering what had happened. However, when he saw Kylan walking away with his palm covering his nose, Jonah's face immediately fell. He sprinted out of the classroom, ignoring Mr. Miller's calls for him to return, and hurried towards Kylan, who was now turning down the hall. When he reached him, Kylan glanced over his shoulder from the loud footsteps and did feel a bit of calm and reassurance when he saw Jonah's worried gaze. Kylan even stopped in his tracks and turned around to face him; Jonah immediately dropped his bag from his back and lowered his eyes to examine his nose. "Does it hurt?" he asked, panting. Kylan nodded his head, feeling the blood linger above his mouth. Jonah hurried, stripped himself of his sweater, and placed it on Kylan's nose, "Hold it with pressure on the bridge of your nose; you're bleeding a lot. I think it might be broken."
Kylan nodded his head and muffled a short, "Thanks"
"Who did this?"
His lips clamped shut; he himself was unsure who even had tripped him, which was causing his heart to sink even deeper. Random students were now teasing him about it, to the point where he needed to head to the infirmary. Jonah noticed Kylan's eyes shifting as he turned away and immediately reached over his shoulders, bringing his body tightly against his and placing his chin on top of Kylan's head. Kylan held back the tears that were near, and Jonah massaged his back, "You'll be fine alright? We're in this together, aren't we? Just promise me something," he pulled back, and a weak smile pulled on the edge of his lips, "we're in this together, right?"
Kylan paused for a moment before slowly nodding his head, "Right."
However, Ella was not on the same page. Ella's page was to find whoever had made that tweet and knock her out. She was not fond of Ashley, to begin with, but now that she had completely ruined Kylan's school life, she was going to take her down, even if that meant getting expelled. During lunch, she marched past Kylan's absent locker and started towards the cafeteria. She was not surprised when she found Kylan beside Jonah, sitting by themselves on the side. Jonah kept him company, wanting to ascertain his safety, and nobody was going to approach him if Jonah was present. However, Ella was not worried about them.
Ella's eyes examined the cafeteria, with one prey in mind. Once she spotted Ashley, there was no turning back. She began her march, and with the way she stomped her feet, Kylan immediately knew what she was about to do and jumped to his feet, "Ella, no."
Jonah raised to his feet as well, "What is she doing?"
"She's going to fight Ashley."
Before they had time to make their way there, Ella had already arrived at Ashley's table and slammed her palm against it. When Ashley saw her, her eyes had a hint of worry, although she firmly smiled, raising her chest proudly. Ella sent her a death glare, and Ashley did have shivers run along her spine.
"Do you need something?"
"Yes," Ella stripped herself of her bag, "get up. We're fighting."
Ashley's blood ran cold, but as her friends fell quiet and observed the scene intently, she forced her composure to remain, but a drop of sweat slide past the side of her face. She narrowed her eyes, "Temper tantrum, I think?"

Her friends began giggling, and Ella shrugged her shoulders, "Tried to warn you." Then, she clenched her first tightly and swung it forward, connecting it perfectly with Ashley's chin and swinging her head to the side; she was projected off her seat. Before Ella could leap forward and land another punch, Bradley was the one to reach her and wrap a protective arm around her waist. He clenched her back tightly to his chest and another one around her shoulder as she puffed heavily. "Ella, calm down," he hissed in a low voice, and a few other people began stepping forward, Jonah also approaching the scene. Ashley's friends surrounded her as she helped, spitting the blood that had formed from the inside of her cheek being sliced open. There was a bruise already forming on the side of her face, and her friends helped her to her feet, rushing out of the cafeteria. "You're a lunatic," one of them yelled.
Ella's teeth gritted, "You can come get it too if you want," she growled, attempting to escape Bradley's palms, but they were tight around her.
Kylan rushed to her, "Are you insane, Ella?"
Ella's adrenaline was running wild, hence why when Kylan said that, she attempted to reach forward and slap his face, but Bradley restricted her. She attempted to free herself as she muffled, "How dare you say that to me?" When she finally stopped breathing heavily, she said, "I did this because I was protecting you, and I care about you. Now you fucking ask me if I'm insane?!"
"You could get expelled, Ella," Kylan replied, "it wasn't a big deal "
"Yes, it was a fucking big deal. Stuff like that is why some people take their lives. You know what happened to my mom Ky? I could never let that happen to you," she huffed, frowning in his direction.
Kylan shook his head, "It's not..." he was a bit hesitant, "it's not going to-"
"You don't know that. And neither do I, so if you don't stick up for yourself, I will." She pointed a threatening finger in his direction, "But don't ever call me insane because I do this for you, not for myself. So don't you ever think that's okay to say to me."
Kylan felt guilty and lowered his arms, as well as his eyes as he whispered, "I'm sorry-"
"Fuck your sorry, Ky," she spat and pushed Bradley off from her, storming towards the exit and disappearing behind the double doors.
