Chapter 19
Chapter 19
Hayden could not help but find this woman truly interesting.
Her reactions were quick, even up to now.
She was still able to hold her own despite the circumstances.
Hayden had to admit that Aurelia’s current demeanor, whether it was an act or genuinely composed from within, left a good impression on him.
“If I were really going to hold you accountable, how would you handle it?” he asked calmly. His gaze was devoid of any hint of amusement Instead, it emanated a heavy aura of pressure.
Aurelia felt cold sweat running down her back, but she still tried her best to control her expression, not revealing her inner fear. However, she allowed a hint of panic to show on the surface, as she did not want to arouse his suspicion.
So. Aurelia turned pale, stuttering as if she genuinely feared what Hayden might do to her.
There was a touch of stubbornness and indignant resentment mixed in with her fear in her slightly adorable and pitiful appearance.
The more Hayden looked at her, the more he found Aurelia not only interesting but also very intelligent. He noticed, especially, her acting skills. If she did not become a sheriff’s daughter but pursued a career in the entertainment industry. she would definitely be an internationally renowned actress. She deserved recognition.
However, from another perspective, it also highlighted Aurelia’s scheming and calculative nature.
Generally, men did not like this kind of woman. They were difficult to control and often involved in stirring up trouble, which was inconvenient to have by their side.
But Aurelia was intriguing.
She was smart, vigilant, quick–witted, and shrewd, yet her cunning did not seem detestable. That was indeed her unique
talent.
“All right, stop pretending! Since you’re still somewhat interesting, come inside, and let’s talk!”
After saying that, Hayden turned and walked into the room, not bothering to look at her.
Aurelia looked at the open door and hesitated for two seconds, knowing that her previous words and actions had unintentionally piqued the curiosity of this formidable scion. It seemed she could not avoid it anymore.
Biting her lip, she decided to follow him into the room.
Is your father a sheriff?” Hayden asked while raising his brows, with his legs crossed arrogantly on the couch.
Aurelia inwardly sighed with a bitter smile but could only shake her head on the surface. “Not exactly. He is the chief deputy
sheriff!
“Oh Hayden responded ambiguously, not continuing the topic.
Aurelia thought that since the situation had already deviated from her initial expectations, being anxious was useless. She decided to take the plunge and sat down on the couch opposite him, appearing natural
Seeing her case, seemingly no longer afraid of him, Hayden could not help but raise an eyebrow “Why are you looking for him? What help do you want from him?”
It was unnecessary to mention who “him” referred to. It could only be none other than Jacob.
Chapter 19
Aurelia felt a little embarrassed and hesitated. She would have brought it up if Jacob were present since she was there to ask for help anyway. But now that Jacob was not there, and only this mysterious scion was present, she did not know if Hayden would pay attention to Michael’s matter. It made her hesitate.
Seeing her hesitation, Hayden immediately understood her concerns.
He could not help but sneer and mock, “What’s the matter? Is it inconvenient for you to talk to me?”
Aurelia saw his cold and stern expression and understood that it was deliberately shown to her.
“These wealthy scions hold themselves in high regard and are very shrewd. How could they easily reveal their inner thoughts on their faces? Clearly, he is intentionally intimidating me and establishing his dominance,” Aurelia thought.
Aurelia felt somewhat humiliated. In her previous life, she had witnessed too much indifference and experienced the fickleness of human nature. This time, after being reborn, she developed a slight stubbornness and obstinacy.
However, she concealed it with layers of tolerance and tact, not revealing it to others.
Of course, these were unknown to Hayden.
After organizing her thoughts a bit, Aurelia said with a somewhat helpless and apprehensive tone, “Navarre has been developing steadily in recent years. Sheriff Yves Longley, who was an economic expert, came here before the new year. I believe that in the near future, Navarre will flourish and develop in an orderly manner. As the chief deputy sheriff, my father is ambitious and driven. However, since he became a government official, he has never left Nuthana. Moreover, his health hasn’t been good lately. I am worried about him. It pains me to see his hair turning white. As his daughter, I am deeply concerned. Coincidentally, I have a classmate who is acquainted with Mr. Miller in Nuthana, and I took the liberty of seeking his help.”
After listening. Hayden looked at Aurelia in surprise and contemplation.
Those seemingly irrelevant words of hers were not to be underestimated. The information implied in them was quite
substantial.
He interpreted it as follows in his heart.
“In recent years, although Navarre seems to have developed steadily, the higher–ups are dissatisfied with the conservative and non–progressive officials team. That was why Deputy Yves from the Reformists Party was parachuted to Navarre before the new year, hoping to break the stagnant situation in Navarre. From this, it can be inferred that the political scene in Navarre is definitely turbulent.”
That was the first point Aurelia wanted to express.
The second point was about Michael, which piqued Hayden’s interest even more.
It was well known that the chief deputy sheriff was supposed to assist the sheriff effectively. However, Aurelia mentioned that Michael had not left Nuthana since he became a government official.
This implied that Michael was a local appointee, a typical local faction representative. In terms of alignment, he would initially side with the county council speaker rather than the newly arrived Yves.
Hence, it was easy to understand why the chief deputy sheriff was not aligning with the sheriff. Instead, he was leaning toward the county council speaker, even though in the political scene of Tospait, it had always been the case that the council was in control of the county Economic Office.
After all, Yves was parachuted into the position, which demonstrated that he had a strong background. Of course, he would not stand a disobedient deputy.
It could be inferred that Aurelia’s father was caught in the middle of the first and second in command.
However, Aurelia did mention that Michael was ambitious and driven, placing this statement at the forefront. This indicated two things to Hayden. Firstly, Michael was a capable individual.
Chapter 19
Secondly, Michael was dissatisfied with Navarre’s current pace of development and wanted to achieve something significant. In terms of alignment, he made a new choice and leaned toward the sheriff.
