Chapter 221 Are You Really Here for a Blind Date?
"Ugh!"
Ranita felt a wave of nausea rise in her throat and couldn't help but cover her mouth.
"Are you okay?" Brendon asked, concerned. "Did you eat something bad?"
"It's nothing... just feeling a little sick," Ranita replied as the elevator stopped and she quickly rushed out.
"I have to go do something first."
Ranita drank some water in the car to calm herself down.
She leaned back against the seat, resting for a few minutes before receiving a message from Vincent.
In the Green Meadow Restaurant.
From afar, Ranita saw Vincent wearing a white shirt. Vincent had well-defined features and stood tall with an air of righteousness about him.
"Are you Ranita? My junior?" Vincent smiled brightly at her. "I'm Vincent."
"Vincent, it's an honor to meet you," Ranita nodded politely as they shook hands and sat down together.
Vincent poured tea for her and ordered some light dishes. He smiled at her saying, "I heard from our professor that your taste is more on the lighter side so if there's anything else you'd like instead,
just let me know."
Vincent worked in the Department of Translation and Interpretation where he interacted with people outside of their university. His voice was deep yet pleasant to listen to; he had an innate persuasiveness that made him sound convincing - definitely someone with good vocal cords!
"These are fine. Thank you," she replied gratefully as they waited for their food.
While waiting for their meal, Vincent took initiative by starting up conversation, "Professor often mentions your name so it's great we finally get to meet each other."
"I've actually seen you on TV before," Ranita laughed along too.
She thought it would be awkward but found that Vincent was easy-going and always managed to bring up topics that interested her - especially since they both studied translation which gave them common ground.
Overall, they had a good chat over dinner.
Afterwards, Vincent proposed taking a walk around Kurima Foreign Studies University while visiting their professor who was still working late into the night.
The campus was particularly quiet during this time of night. They walked along the path for a while before Ranita curiously asked, "I heard from our professor that you're planning on teaching here again."
"Yeah! I've been in the Department of Translation and Interpretation for quite some time now. I'm getting tired, and besides, it's time I give younger people opportunities too." Although Vincent was older than Ranita by a year or two, his age wasn't considered old either way!
"You're not old at all!" She chuckled lightly in response.
"But the Department of Translation and Interpretation is really busy, I'm losing my hair!" Vincent said with a low laugh. "So I want to take a break and start a family. The professor just told me that the college needs teachers, so I'll take up the position."
In other words, Vincent wasn't completely leaving the Department of Translation and Interpretation.
As Ranita thought about Vincent's words, she suddenly realized that he was stealing glances at her from the corner of his eye. Her heart thumped as she understood.
Could it be that Vincent was really here for a blind date with her!?
After hesitating for a moment, Ranita spoke up, "Vincent, actually... there's something I think I should tell you."
"I have someone I like," she said.
"And then?" Vincent smiled. "Are you two together?"
Ranita didn't know how to answer.
They weren't going to be together; they were going to separate.
Ranita fell silent and Vincent didn't press further. Instead he said, "We're all adults here. Who doesn't have someone they like? But... as long as you haven't gotten together with him yet, then there's still hope for me."
"Ranita," he continued. "Life is short. Maybe you can consider taking another path and perhaps gain some different precious experiences along the way. What do you think?"
Ranita tilted her head slightly towards him and nodded in agreement, "You're right. But lately, I haven't been thinking about matters of love too much."
"What about in the future?" asked Vincent.
"In the future... maybe!" replied Ranita nervously.
Vincent smiled again at her under the streetlight - his lips red against his white teeth - saying, "That works! Let's formally introduce ourselves now. My name is Vincent Ramos, but from now on, let me pursue you."
