Chapter 177 – The Alphas’ Porn Star Mate
"What is it?" I hissed loudly.
He didn't respond. Not even a mutter or grunt. His eyes were fixed on the forest ahead.
"What do you see?!" I asked more loudly, demanding an answer.
"Hush! Be quiet!"
He turned to glare at me, but right as he turned his back, purple rays of light shot out of the treeline, slamming into Jasper's back, making him hunch over. Then, while he was thrashing on the ground in pain, something leapt out of the dark forest right towards him.
I let out a bloodcurdling scream as a giant black wolf's jaws closed around Jasper's throat, yanking him back and leaving me exposed. Jasper managed to shift still, but not before I heard a sickening pop in his neck. His wolf's eyes went wide, and his entire body went limp. "NO!" I shrieked.
Suddenly, I was surrounded by dozens of other wolves, a giant gray wolf leading the advance. There was a woman on his back. The woman from the pictures that Mr. Smith had shown us hundreds of times before. The prostitute turned Luna he's been so obsessed with. She was who Boyd was supposed to bring us.
He failed. He had to have failed. He's been caught, probably thrown in their jail cells after being tortured for the truth.
"Are you sure about that?" My wolf asked, a mocking air to her tone. She was gazing out through my eyes, her attention fixed on one very familiar wolf standing beside a small red wolf. Both were glaring daggers at me. "Boyd!" I screamed. "Sirius! Help me!"
He wouldn't betray me. He can't we're mates. Jasper's body was lying mangled several feet away, now human but with a sickening twist in his back. His eyes were open, and I knew he wasn't dead. I would have felt it. He wasn't moving though. His injuries were too serious. That was clear.
Boyd was my only chance of being saved. He was the only one who could protect me now.
"Boyd! Please!"
I was desperate as the wolves started closing in on me.
The smaller red wolf stepped forward, snarling at me, drool dripping from her sharp teeth.
The prostitute snickered loudly, sliding down from the back of the large gray wolf.
"Why don't you try commanding him? That might work," she said nonchalantly, walking towards Jasper and the giant black wolf.
Was she making fun of me?
"Boyd!" I screamed, trying to push my aura over him anyway. "Help me! I command you to protect me!" Sirius snuffed his nose towards me, then nuzzled the neck of the little red wolf whose hackles were raised.
"What are you doing?!" I screeched. He was ignoring me, all while cozying up with another shewolf right in front of me.
"He's not dead!" The hooker yelled out, crouched over Jasper's unmoving body. Paralyzed, but not dead. The spinal fracture was too low." She then looked me up and down, a smug look on her features. "I don't think we need both of them alive. I'm sure once he's cleansed, he'll be much more cooperative than that one. She's all yours, Estel."
Sirius nuzzled into the red wolf again, and my fury exploded in a shrill scream when he licked the side of her face.
The red wolf was still concentrated on me, her nostrils flaring. She took concentrated steps forward, one paw in front of the other. When her tail flicked in Sirius's face, I felt my wolf's bittersweet pain, a confusing mix of relief and sadness. It made me scream. "I command you, Boyd!" I screamed.
Right as I was stomping my foot, real fear settling in, the red wolf lunged for me. I tried to shift, tried to demand my wolf to take over and fight back, but she refused. She retreated to her subconsciousness, murmuring heartbroken goodbyes as she accepted her fate and my body was being torn limb from limb.
Rodger POV
I stood pacing outside of the pack house, waiting for Chloe's return. She wouldn't listen to anyone, even her mates, as they all urged her to stay home. No one except Estel was for her going on this mission, but she stood her ground until the end.
I'm sure Estel's suggestion that just she and Chloe take care of the problem was enough of a threat to keep Mick and Miles from pressing their point further. Chloe had proven twice now that she was capable of protecting herself. I'm sure she could put her foot down in the most uncomfortable places if she wanted.
When I heard the rumbling of engines, I stopped my pacing and turned towards the forest. Several four-wheelers emerged from the overgrowth, followed by the warriors in wolf form.
In the center, there were the two Alphas, one with my daughter on his back.
The four-wheelers were the first to reach the pack house. One had a wagon-like trailer attached to its back. Inside was a giant man, with red hair and his body twisted in an awkward way. He was alive, and in pain, judging by the feral look on his face, but wasn't moving. The only movement I saw were tears streaming from his puffy eyes.
"To the cells. Not the clinic," Darren called to the warriors on the four-wheelers. "The Luna asked for him to be kept in the cells."
"He needs treatment if he's going to heal," I commented. "It appears his back is broken."
Darren's expression turned hard. "I don't think he will be alive much longer anyway."
He must be one of the ones that tried to coax Boyd to take Chloe. Maybe even the Alpha, judging by his size.
But what of the Luna then?
"Were there no other prisoners?" I asked.
Darren shook his head, pursing his lips. "None alive."
"So they killed the Luna?"
"Estel did. She was owed that," Darren said, then went to help the warriors move the limp body of the enemy Alpha.
I stood there in the chaos of the pack as the Alphas and Chloe worked alongside each other to organize everyone. When Boyd and Estel, both covered in sticky crimson gore, shifted back to human, I watched them head inside together holding hands. Boyd almost looked like a puppy on a leash, following Estel with a love-struck expression.
Good for him. For both of them. Now, Boyd can finally move on from the pain of his past that has been holding him back from true happiness for so long.
Finally, Chloe, looking exhausted, started making her way back to the pack house, walking alongside Jamie and Alexi. She almost passed by me, not paying attention, so I stepped forward and called out to her.
"Chloe. A moment please." I felt a cold fear running through me; fear that she wouldn't want to speak to me.
She exchanged a look with Jamie and Alexi, and then Jamie nudged her forward towards me. She looked nervous too, which made me feel like I needed to speak first.
"Are you alright? Did they hurt you at all?"
She shook her head, eyes not able to meet mine for long. "No. Everything went fine. Boyd's free now."
"I saw that," I smiled reassuringly. "You saved him."
She shrugged. "Estel saved him this time. She dealt with his ex-mate."
I laughed softly. "I assumed as much."
We stood awkwardly for a few seconds, Jamie and Alexi waiting a few steps behind her, holding their breath.
I needed to tear this bandaid off. I need to quit being a coward and face the consequences of my past and failures.
"Can we talk alone for a moment?"
She met my eyes for the longest time yet, then tilted her face to the side. "Yes. I think we should."
