After Zade left at night, Kaya muttered curses under her breath. I thought she was angry with me and I profusely apologized for putting her in that kind of situationwith her Alpha but she told me that she was more upset with Zade than me. Regardless, she was in his pack and she had to abi de by the rules. She helped me clean up room because it was covered with dust and it looked like it had never been lived in. We didn’t fall asleep until around three in the morning and by six, I was woken up.

I had training with Landon once more but even he wasn’t as invested as he was before. I knew without a doubt that Zade had spoken to him but I couldn’t bring myself to ask what they spoke about and if I were being truly honest, I didn’t want to know. I enjoyed spending time with Landon because he was funny and gentle. He was a good person and I knew that whoever ended up mated to him would be the luckiest girl on the planet.

Training ended abruptly because some guards came in and told Landon that Zade was requesting for him. I went inside fully expecting to take a long shower and rest but I was met by Gladys. I hadn’t seen her since my initial arrival and I could tell that she was not happy to see me.

“The Alpha said that you were to join the maids,” she spoke the words with a frown on her face and at first, I thought that frown was directed at me but when she glanced at my stomach, I realized it was because of the situation.

I was not showing yet but my scent had changed slightly. Anyone with half a brain could tell that I was pregnant and I could tell that Gladys was not happy about putting a pregnant woman to work but unfortunately, there was not much that either of us could do. We were both under Zade and his word was law.

I followed her towards the kitchens where the maids were rushing around. I realized that I had never actually been in the kitchens before. It was large and could fit a tiny house. The scent of food was so overwhelming that I had to take a step back. Gladys balanced me with a hand on my back and I could see her watching me with

concern.

“You won’t be working here, don’t worry,” she assured me with a soft smile as she led me towards an empty store. “The Alpha ordered that you don’t have breakfast until you are done with your chores but judging by your condition, I am not sure if I can go along with that order and have a clean conscience.” I watched as Gladys brought out a plate of sandwiches and handed them over to me. “Eat so that you can begin your work for the

I had never expected that kind of response from anyone and it made my eyes water, I ate the sandwiches in a hurry because I didn’t want anyone to realize she had broken the order. Once I was done, she took the plate back into the kitchen and returned to gesture for me to follow her. I could feel the eyes on me as I did but I tried to ignore them. Gladys led me up the stairs and towards Za de’s room. My steps slowed the closer we got there because thing I wanted to do was to be forced to work with Zade around. ‘Megan, this is Anna and she will be working with you in this portion of the palace. It is important to note that no one ever works alone here. You both are tasked with cleaning the Alpha’s wing. Anna has been doing this for a while so she will put you through. Is there anything else?”

I nodded and pulled her aside slightly. Once we had a semblance of privacy, I dropped my voice to a whisper. “Do I have to work here? I am willing to do anything else.”

“I’m sorry, Megan,” she dropped her voice to a small whisper. “Everything else available is too strenuous for you This was the only opening, I am sorry.” She gave me a soft smile and walked away.

Working with Anna was a complete nightmare. She spoke to me like I was a child and an inconvenience. It didn’t matter how well I tried to do my work, she was always adamant that I didn’t do it right and proceeded to berate me. For the first five minutes, I tried to defend myself. I spoke back to her and told her that she was being unreasonable but it only seemed to infuriate her more and I just got tired of trying so I allowed her do whatever she wanted.

I never realized how large Za de’s wing was until we had to clean it. There was a gym room, a living room, a room and his bedroom. We kept the bedroom for last and I noticed Anna taking her time as she moved around. I even caught her discreetly sniffing his pillow and I realized what her bad attitude was about- she liked Zade. The thought hit me so fast that I couldn’t help but burst out laughing. She turned to me with a deep frown.

“What is so funny?” she sneered and I shrugged. “If you are going to be so loud about it then you might as well just start talking now.”

“It is amusing how obvious your crush is.””

I saw alarm flash across her face at being called out but she quickly schooled it into indifference. “I think your pregnancy brain is starting to hit. You’re beginning to see things. Not all of us are desperate enough to want into the Alpha’s bed.”

I just shrugged. “You can have him if you want him. You don’t have to be rude to me about it. The goddess knows that whatever we have, faithfulness is not a part of it. If you can get him to you, then you can take him.”

“Shut up and don’t speak about our Alpha like that,” she tried to feign disinterest but I could see the eagerness in her eyes.

Before I could respond to her, the door opened and Zade walked in. He looked shocked to see us and that made me sigh in relief because it meant that he hadn’t heard our conversation. He was shirtless and his torso was gleaming with sweat. Despite not wanting to, my eyes ran down his body in appreciation and out of the corner of my eyes, I saw Anna do the same.

“What the f uck are you still doing in my room?” his voice was deceptively calm but I could hear the annoyance behind it.

I opened my mouth to speak but Anna beat me to it. She practically pushed to my front and stood directly opposite Zade. She took her time running her eyes down his body and she batted her lashes as she spoke.

“It was Megan,” her voice was supposed to be a mix between soft and seductive but it only grated on my nerves. “She kept dragging her feet and doing things wrong. I tried to tell her the right way to do things but she just wouldn’t listen. I understand if you want to send her away. I wouldn’t mind doing it all by myself.”

Zade looked down at her blandly. “Get out.”

She was shocked. It took her a few seconds to gather her bearings but once she did, she rushed off. I watched her disappear and I tried to make a quick escape but Zade grabbed my upper arm to keep me in place.

“What did you have to give for them to give you this job?” he asked. “How much did you have to beg? Isn’t it enough to know that I don’t want you around? Why did you have to secure this chore out of the many others in the palace?”

“I didn’t ask for it, I was given it,” I whisper yelled. “If you don’t want me here then ask them to give me another.”

He

thought about it for a second then shook his head. “If you want to be around me so much then go ahead,” he leaned down until his mouth was brushing the shell of my ear. “This is what you wanted, wasn’t it? You wanted to come in here and try to seduce me.”

“That was not what I wanted,” I tried to push him away but he grabbed my arms and trapped them behind my back.

“If you want to be f ucked like a w h ore then all you have to do is ask.”

“F uck you,” I spat.

“You already have,” he let go of my hands but he didn’t step back. “You will continue to work here but I will make it the most miserable experience of your life.”
