Chapter Chapter Seven
The next morning, the Man with the German Accent burst out from inside his torture building. “Where is Bastet!” He shouted at his Black Hands. None of them dared look at him. The Man with the German Accent glared at them all as he walked in front of each of them. “She was right here yesterday when I last saw her.” He told them. “Now I find that she is gone without a trace.” He glared at all of them. “Can anyone tell me how that is even possible?” There is no way that she could have just vanished like that.”
None of the Black Hands looked at him. They weren’t even sure how Bastet had done it. They had all seen her there as well. They had lost her during the power outage and the chaos that had come from the power going out. They had all looked for Bastet the entire night. There was no sign of her. It was like she had just vanished into thin air. The Man with the German Accent was only finding out about it now because he had been busy at the ruins when it happened.
The Man with the German Accent glared at them all. “Find her.” He told them in a dangerous voice. “I don’t care how you do it, I just want her found and brought back here.” He let that sink in before he continued. “Find her and bring her back here to face her punishment.” He raised his cane up and the top of it glowed black. “Or else you’ll be punished by my hand.” That got all of the Black Hands. The Black Hands quickly ran off in different directions to find the traitorous Black Hand.
The Man with the German Accent watched the Black Hands quickly take off to find Bastet. He had a feeling that he knew where she went. If he knew her the way he did, he knew he was right. There was only one place Bastet would go. She would go back to the Chosen One and get rid of her once and for all just to get revenge on him. To embarrass him in front of their master and the rest of the Black Hand. He went to his car and got in. “Take me to the Chosen One’s home.” He ordered his driver. His driver nodded and started up the vehicle. The driver and the Man with the German Accent left the manor in the forest.
The four girls were meeting at their playhouse in the backyard. It was more of a clubhouse the last couple of years. They used to use the place for their tea parties and picnics. Now they used it when they wanted to work on homework together. “So Rachel told us that you had a nightmare.” Delaney was saying.
Emily looked at her little sister. Rachel looked like she didn’t get much sleep. Before she could ask her sister what exactly she had heard, Elizabeth spoke. “What exactly happened in your nightmare? Every detail.” Emily took her book out and placed it on the table.
“I was being chased by the four Horsemen of the Apocalypse. They chased me to a barren field that was filled with dead bodies and tattered banners and flags.” She shook her head. “It was like a battle had just occurred there. There were very few survivors and they were starving. Two people were tied to two trees beyond it. They looked like they had taken a serious beating from the Horsemen. One was an older guy, maybe fifties or so. The other was a young girl. She looked like she might have been a couple of years older than us.” Emily opened her book to the last page she had read.
“That was when I heard some evil laughter. It made every survivor except for the four Horsemen and the two tied up people scream in pain before they died. It said that it would rise up and that what I saw was the future.” She shook her head. “It was terrible and so scary. I woke up screaming and Dad heard me.”
Rachel nodded. “I also heard you.” She reminded her big sister. “I’m surprised that the neighbors didn’t hear us.”
Delaney thought it over. “Two trees you said?” She asked.
Emily nodded. “Why?” She asked Delaney. What could be so important about two trees? She probably had just dreamt up about the two trees like she had done with the rest of the dream. Maybe her dad was right. Maybe she had been reading the book too much.
Delaney took her phone out and got onto the internet. She looked something up. “Here it is.” She said. “There are two trees mentioned in the Book of Revelations.” Emily managed not to roll her eyes. Of course there would be two trees mentioned in the same book that had the four Horsemen of the Apocalypse. “The two trees are olive trees and they’re supposed to represent the two witnesses who will speak to the world and try to free the world of evil. Then they’ll be killed after three and a half years by the Devil.” Delaney read.
Emily thought about it. If Delaney was right, then the two people she had dreamt about, the old man and the young girl, were the two witnesses and that she had witnessed what the Book of Revelations predicted. She shuddered. “I really hope you’re wrong Delaney.” She said. “Because if that’s true, we only have three and a half years left before they’re killed.” There was no way that her dream was saying that. Everything was supposed to be about the Black Hand hunting down a chosen one to make sure that the chosen one couldn’t defeat the Darkness. So why would there be references to a book of the Bible in her book? And why would there be references to the wizard Merlin in her book?
Elizabeth shook her head. “It’s possible that they were in your dream, not because they’re witnesses but because they would try to help the chosen one that’s talked about in your book.” She said to Emily. “That would make more sense to be honest.”
Emily nodded. “I really hope that this is all made up.” She told her cousins and sister. “That the guys who kidnapped and tried to kill me are just crazy guys and not a part of some large end of the world cult.” She shuddered and slammed her book shut. “I thought that there would be some sort of explanation in this book as to why my mom wanted me to have this but all I have found is some crazy end of the world cult.”
Rachel was watching her big sister. She knew that Emily really wanted to believe that there was some way to stay connected to their mother because of how long their mom had wanted Emily to have that book. She had even wanted to believe that there was a reason why their mom had gotten Emily that book. She wanted her big sister to be happy the way she used to be. Back before their mother had died and had left her older sister scarred for life. She wanted to tell her big sister that it would all be okay but she wasn’t sure if it would be.
Emily put the book into her bag. “Can we talk about the camp that we’re going to in a couple of weeks?” She asked. The way she said it though made it clear that she didn’t want to talk about anything else. Nor would she let them talk about the book anymore.
Elizabeth shrugged. “Sure.” She said.
Delaney’s face brightened up. “Mom found out about the camp through a friend of hers at church.” She told Emily and Rachel. “Remember Chris from school? That boy that has a major crush on you Emily?” She asked. Emily blushed brightly. She knew who Chris was. She could always catch him looking at her.
“Anyways, his mom told our mom about a camp that Chris had gone to last summer and how he had fun there.” Delaney continued, sparing Emily of having to think of Chris anymore. She could tell that her cousin was blushing brightly and she wanted to keep the conversation going before Elizabeth or Rachel could give Emily a bad time about it. “So our mom looked up the place and found a group that she thinks we would be interested in.”
Elizabeth nodded. “It’s some sort of group that tries out different activities so kids can get an idea of what other types of groups they can go to.” She added to her sister’s answer.
Emily was interested in that. “What is it called? The group I mean.” She asked.
Delaney smiled. “It’s called Experimental Explosion.” She answered. “Because we’ll get to experience what the other groups do.”
Emily had to admit that the name did sound catchy and interesting. “So we’ll be there for a week trying out different things from different groups?” She asked. “Like what?”
Delaney looked up the camp on her phone. “Experimental Explosion offers horseback riding, rock climbing, swimming, drama, fashion and even cooking.” She told her cousin. “Mom thinks that we’ll have fun in that group. She told your dad about it.”
Emily nodded. “That’s how I found out about it early this morning.” She really wanted to go to the group. It sounded like it would be fun.
Rachel sat back in her chair and thought about what the other three were talking about. She wondered if she would fit in with their group. She didn’t exactly feel like she fit in with her sister and their cousins. The three of them were always talking to each other and she felt like she was just the tag along. She knew that there would be more people in their group that summer but she still wasn’t sure if she would fit in with their group. She just hoped that there would be a few campers in the group who were her age. She looked at Emily’s bag. She wanted to try to read more of her older sister’s book to find out more but she knew that Emily wouldn’t let her.
There was a knock at the door, making all four girls jump. “Hello?” Emily called out. Usually if her dad knocked at the door he would make himself known right after knocking at the door. Emily went up to the door slowly and opened it. There was no one there. Emily frowned and closed the door. “That was odd.” She said.
Elizabeth frowned and looked at her cousin. “What do you mean?” She asked.
Emily shook her head. “There was no one there.” She told them. She sat down in her seat. “So what else can you tell Rachel and me about this camp?” She asked Delaney and Elizabeth.
Outside the clubhouse, a cat was rubbing against the side. The cat looked terrible. A torn ear, a bad eye and scars all over it. It was amazing that the cat was still alive. It looked at the clubhouse before going into the woods behind the house. Once it was far enough in, the cat changed into Bastet.
Bastet glared at the clubhouse. It hadn’t been easy for her to escape the Man with the German Accent’s torture chamber but she had done it. She had nearly died escaping the place but it had been worth it. Now she could finally get her revenge on the Man with the German Accent. She wouldn’t go after him and challenge him. Oh no. She would go after Emily and get rid of her once and for all.
She looked around to make sure that there was no one there that could stop her from getting rid of the Chosen One. Seeing no one else there, she started making her way towards the clubhouse, her claws grew long. Her eyes narrowed in on the clubhouse. She hissed. It was finally time to get rid of the Chosen One. By the time she would be done with the Chosen One, the Chosen One and her cousins and sister would all be dead and she would be long gone by the time that the Black Hand and the Man with the German Accent found out about what she had done.
