that Lauren needed to buy the pair of white nephrite vases. Laure
had clearly known the price of the vases before instructing her to retrieve the items.
With the pair of vases in her hands, Yvette hurried into the Luxford residence. After walking through the door, she was surprised to see the entire Luxford family gathering inside the house. Lauren waved at Yvette before the latter could mak sense of what was going on. “You’re back, Yvette. Come over here and join us.”
Seated inside the living room were Ruby and her son, who had not been there since the unpleasant incident that had happened a few days ago.
Hendrick had been gazing at Yvette since the moment she entered the house. If not for fear of angering William again an the reminder from the bandage wrapped around his head, he would have shamelessly continued to harass her.
Yvette walked up to Lauren and hesitantly handed the brocade box in her hands to the latter. “Mom, this is…”
“I knew it. You’re such a filial child. We’ve never celebrated your grandpa’s birthday in the past. What did you buy?” Laurer turned to William before saying, “Dad, look at this gorgeous pair of vases.”
She opened the box and instantly to her.

The pair of nephrite vases was only the size of a palm, yet they were entirely white and appeared translucent. Under brigh lights, the sno wflake-like patterns on the body of the vases could be observed. That was an antique that cost nearly 300 thousand dollars.
Yvette felt her heart ache when she was reminded of the card she had used to pay for the vases.
William glanced at the antique. Then, he nodded with a smile. “Thank you for being so thoughtful. I like them a lot.”
William had never been an expressive person. Hence, it was rare for him to praise someone in such a cheerful manner.
At that instant, the way everyone inside the house looked at Yvette changed.
Lauren chimed in light-heartedly, “I suppose this pair of vases must have cost you a fortune. The balance on the card that I gave you was not enough to pay for it, was it?”
Yvette’s face turned scarlet. At a loss, she blurted out, “Just enough!”
“This child is too honest. She spent all the pocket money I gave her to buy this pair of vases for her grandpa, Lauren said those words smilingly.
As soon as the others present heard her words, none of them dared to look down on Yvette anymore.
“Happy birthday to you, Dad.”
Yvette regained her senses and hurriedly added, “Happy birthday to you, Grandpa. May you enjoy this special day and stay healthy as always
William beamed. “Take a seat. There’s no need to go through all these trouble for a birthday.”
Ruby piped up at once, “Your birthday happens only once a year, so it’s not troublesome at all for us to gather here today and accompany you for a meal. Besides, Yosef had wanted to visit you last month to celebrate your birthday, but he was too occupied by work until now.”
Yosef Luxford, who was seated at the side, said, “Dad, it is my obligation as a son to spend time with you during your birthday.

Although the birthday banquet was not grand, the Luxford family was so extensive that all the guests filled up a dozen tables. Yvette followed Lauren around to mingle with the other members of the family seated around different tables.
Yvette could sense the disdain and mockery hinted in their eyes.
The birthday banquet dragged late into the night. William retired early before the end of the feast while Yvette and Lauren busied themselves until the end of the event.
“Thank you, Mom.”
Yvette did not know that day was William’s birthday. Lauren was very thoughtful by giving her the card to purchase the pair of vases and gified the antique to William as his birthday gift on Yvette’s behalf.
Otherwise, she would have become the laughingstock for the night..
Lauren patted Yvette’s hand and comforted her. There’s no need to thank me. Now that you’ve become my daughter-in- law, we should have each other’s back. We can only rely on one another from now on if we wish to survive in the Luxford family.”
Lauren knew that if Joshua continued to stay in the coma, they would have no one to depend on after William’s passing.
Realizing Lauren’s thoughts, Yvette suddenly harbored the slightest hope for Joshua to regain his consciousness as soon as possible.
