Chapter 27- Barely Holding On
"Violet!" He yells out. The house is eerie, with a gloomy vibe to it. All the curtains hang down the windows covering every sliver of light. Not even the lights are on in the house. It's so dark..."Violet!" He calls out again. I wonder through the kitchen, to the living room, and stop at a door in the wall. I hear sniffles and sobs. Violet? I place my hand on the door handle, and twist it.

I promise you won't won't miss anything if you do...
My eyes lock on the sink dripped with blood, the blood is smeared on the outer rim of the sink. Violet lies there on the floor clutching the small blade, while holding out her wrist with small cuts all over. All of the cuts are near the main artery in the wrist, as if she's been debating for a while, to take her own life. I freeze, what am I supposed to do? If I get close to her she might threaten to kill herself! Johnny barges in, removing the blade from his sister's hand as she cries louder. He pulls her into a hug.
"Why?" She sobs. "If I die, you and mom wouldn't have to work so hard and you could go off to college and have a normal life." She sniffles. "I-i wouldn't be holding you back." My hands are shaky and my knees buckle in.
"Shut up! I'm tired of you using me as an excuse for you to be miserable. I chose to work because I wanted to Violet. I choose to take care of you because you're my little sister! So stop acting like a burden! And feeling sorry for yourself! Because you have nothing to feel sorry for!"
"I saw the college letter Johnny! If it weren't for me you would've accepted it! Wouldn't you?" Oh, Violet. I had no idea that you were feeling this way. If I only knew, I wouldn't have said those harsh things. I was angry and stupid!
"No,I wouldn't have. Because I know colleges that can offer better opportunities that will accommodate my needs." Johnny speaks calm and firm. How can he keep himself so composed? I break free from my frozen stance. And walk slowly inside the bathroom.
"What about you Han, if I mustered the courage to stand up to Rose you wouldn't be getting harassed or made fun of. " Out of impulse I ran in to hug her.
"It's not your fault Violet, Rose wouldn't have listened to you anyway!" I sob with her. Me and Johnny keep her wrapped in our arms for a while. Once her sobs and sniffles become quiet we release her. I call dad to tell him I'm spending the night at a friend's place and to tell Ian. I don't care if he's pissed Violet needs me right now. My eyes flutter open, it takes me a bit to realize I'm in Violet's room. She's sleeping soundly and snoring on the opposite side of me. Ah! My head is killing me.
