Chapter 56
Sherlock was feeling better now. His giddiness had all but gone and as he rose from his chair and walked the short distance to the window for some air, a thought entered his head.
“On your travels, did you, per chance, come across a kindly bunch of folks with one leg and one wheel?” he asked the cat.
Brian stopped in mid lick and looked up. He was a little surprised that Sherlock should ask him such a question, out of the blue. “As a matter of fact I did,” he answered. “The wheel people. I knew them well. In fact, it was one of my bumbling spells that propelled them into the realms of monocycling,” he said proudly, as if monocycling along with hula hoops and yo-yo’s was about to become the next big thing.
“I thought as much.” Sherlock replied. “So you must be Hezzerbah, the mad Wizard. Right?”
Brian smiled. “Well spotted!” he exclaimed. “You could be a copper with investigative skills like that!”
“I already am a copper!” Sherlock replied, casting a stern glance at the cat whilst pretending to unclip the safety catch on his truncheon. Uncertain as to the Constable’s intentions, Brian scurried beneath the table for cover…
