Saving Kinsley

Chapter Beasts in the Woods

Kinsley's P.O.V

We arrived just before the sun began to set. We were in a small town, several hours from Haven pack territory. Calum had gotten the call of a small shifter family of Five needing a pack. Or at least temporary placement.

I turned the Jeep off as we pulled into a run-down Motel, I shivered at the sight. This place shouldn't even be operating. "This the place?" I asked with a raised brow.

Noah looked over the file, "Yep, room 103." This place gave me the creeps. The whole town was basically empty as we drove through, the Motel wasn't any better. Only one car was parked in the lot. All the lights were out, probably the lack of maintenance from the lack of cleanliness I could see. I let out a sigh, the quicker we get out of here the better. And then we can go home.

Stepping out of the car, an eerie chill settled over me. Noah stepped out, rounding the Jeep and giving me a questioning look. "Something feels off." Noah shrugged, "It's the motel, it's giving me the creeps too."

Glad I wasn't the only one. Both of us walked towards the Motel, heading for the numbered room. Seriously, the only sound I could hear was the soft summer wind, and the occasional gravel crunch under our feet.

Reaching the room I turned to Noah, "Why am I getting such a bad vibe here? Am I crazy?" Noah brushed me off and knocked on the door. No answer.

I let out a huff, "I told you something was of-"

CRASH.

Before we could say anything a howl broke the evening air, coming from behind the Motel. I groaned, "Please tell me we're not about to go looking behind the creepy motel. Please." I reaaaaaaally did not like this. Noah let out a tired sigh, "Sorry Kinz. Stay close, you know the drill."

I let out an even deeper groan than before, it wasn't often we had to go into stealth mode. But there were a handful of times we ran into trouble, so we never let our guard down. Especially outside of pack territory.

Heading to the backside of the Motel, both of us shifted into our wolves.

I let out a low light howl, letting the runner know we meant no harm.

The wooded area was pure silence. 'Can we just.. Not?' I pushed into Noah's head. Now that we were pack mates, we could freely communicate via Mind-link. Best thing ever.

'We have to at least try.' Noah sounded reluctant, I knew he just wanted this over with so he could go back to Vivi.

A howl, a cry for help ripped through the air, deep into the woods. Both of us flew into the trees like a bullet. We both separated to cover more ground at some point.

My vision tunneled into my wolf's Night vision, to pick up any heat signatures. Fun fact: I could turn it on and off now. I hadn't picked up anything yet, so I kept running.

'Where are you? Anything yet?' Noah's voice floated through.

'South, nothing yet. You?'

'I've got a scent, headed west, meet me there.' Noah sounded a tad bit annoyed at the turn of events.

Honestly, I think we had spent hours searching for this wolf. The moon was high in the sky, like a beacon to the nocturnal creatures of the woods. Noah and I ran alongside each other for several more hours before Tate mind linked me.

'How are things?' His concern leaked into the link.

'Oddly enough I think it was only one wolf, not five. And they ran before we even spoke to him or her. We're searching the woods now.' I looped Tate into the night we'd been having.

'Why are you in the woods? I don't like this, you guys need to come back.' I shot Noah a look and he responded with a wolfish snort.

'Be home soon.' I closed the link and we both turned right back around. I was all but eager to get back to the Jeep and forget this creepy town, mostly the Motel. Gave me weird vibes.

I switched over to my night vision again in one last hoorah to find that wolf, and what I saw was more than one. We were fucking surrounded. At the same time I realized that, the wind kicked up and scents floated to us. Noah let out a deep growl 'Rogues!'

God damnit, that was the last thing I expected to happen tonight. The rogues were closing in on us. I whirled around in the opposite direction to find the same thing.

'We're going to have to fight our way out. But we can't lead them back to the pack.' Noah let out an agreeing snort of sorts. The first two Rogues came down on us quickly, but they were no match for us. I realized they started pushing us further from town 'They're trapping us. We need to get out.' I voiced to Noah.

Another popped out of the woodwork, Noah had it quickly in his jaws bringing it to the ground with a quick snap.

Another howl ripped through the night, this one sent a shiver down my spine. And suddenly, there were at least Seven facing us off. 'Fuck, where are they all coming from? shit, on your right!' I all but yelled through the link as I caught the last second of the moving wolf.

Noah had him fast enough, sending my senses into overdrive. This was an ambush.

My vision was full of teeth and claws, my jaws locked on to fur, filling my mouth with the pungent taste of blood.

'We need to run, now!' Noah boomed through the link. Fuck, don't have to tell me twice. I was no coward, but I knew a losing fight when I saw one, and I very much enjoyed living. Two to.. Fuck I couldn't even put a number on these assholes. There are too many.

Bolting out of jaws, we took off in a quick sprint further from the town we came from. My heart pained at the thought of leaving my Jeep in the lot of this town, but that was a problem for another day.

I could hear the thunder of paws as we ran further, deeper, into the woods under the cover of the moon.

A deafening sound broke the night as we made further from the rogues, but that sound pierced through my thoughts, sending fear through my veins. Was that a gunshot?

Noah fell to the ground, with a whimper as he hit the leaves and dirt below. I shifted immediately, "Fuck! shit, where were you shot!" Noah let out another whimper as my hands raced around through his fur. The warm liquid hit my hand right above his shoulder.

I placed my hand over the wound, listening for threats at the same time. This was not good.

'Ambush, Noah's been fucking shot!' I was panicking. Why wasn't he fucking healing!

Tate's voice drifted through 'Fuck! On my way!' His Alpha tones could be heard through the link, and boy was he pissed right the fuck off. 'We're hours from the pack, I need to get help. Now.' I informed Tate. If Noah didn't heal quickly, we were utterly fucked.

Noah had started to shake and whimper more. I decided the best thing to do was to remove the bullet and then apply pressure. Right? I reached in grabbing the bullet, instantly my skin felt like it was on fire, I cursed as I yanked it out and Noah released a howl. Fucking wolfsbane.

I threw the bullet and my hand flew to his bleeding wound. "Better now? Are you healing?" I whispered aloud.

'Fuck, that was horrible. Yes, I can feel it healing now.' Noah sounded pained as he spoke through our link. Fuck I was going to kill those bastards for this.

Thank the goddess it hadn't been silver, because he wouldn't be walking away from that. Wolfsbane was more of a neutralizer, where silver killed shifters.

A twig snapped and I instantly shifted with a growl, 'Be back in a sec.' No way in hell was I going far, but I needed to lock down the area. Hopefully, Tate would come soon enough.

I flew into the woods, I had the rogue in my sights.

Flashes of Noah on the ground were in my head, and then I was back to that night I first left Sallow Pack. Being hunted by Rogues, the raw stench of decay, and bloodlust. The last moments of me being shredded into, my life hanging by a mere thread. I fucking lost it.

One second I was right behind the rogue, the next, I was standing over charred remains. My body was shaking, breathing in sharp bursts of air. I hadn't lost control like this in a long time, but now wasn't the time to reflect on this.

Embrace it, you know you want to.

I shook the voice from my head, pushing it to the back of my thoughts.

I took off back into the direction of Noah, following the scent of his blood.

Wait.

His scent was trailing in a different direction, he was moving?

'Noah, where are you?' I asked as I approached the spot I left him, nothing. Panic was seeping in, I was struggling with each breath not to lose control again.

Fuck, Kinz! You really did it this time.

'Noah! where are you!' Our shared link was met with silence. I could feel him, but he wasn't close.

I took off into a sprint through the woods again following his scent, come on. Where are you?

I ran at a dead sprint, locked on his scent trail. Making a breakthrough some bushes, I stopped dead in my tracks at the sight before me.

Fuck me, this can't be happening.
