Chapter 3140
Hawthorn wasn't expecting anyone to get in his way after he had sent Brenton flying with one blow.
"If you want to die that badly, then I shall gladly kill you first!" he yelled angrily as he turned his body and swung his sledgehammer at Nathan's head instead.
Hawthorn was determined to crush Nathan into a bloody pulp for standing up to him.
"Watch out!" Hepburn screamed from the side.
It wasn't clear if Brenton was simply touched by Nathan's selfless act or if he had been humbled by his near-death experience, but he, too yelled at Nathan, "Run! His hammer is insanely powerful! An ordinary person like you doesn't stand a chance at blocking it!" Brenton was the strongest member of the Curia, and yet, a single hit from Hawthorn's war hammer was all it took to defeat him.
As such, Brenton believed things would be even worse for Nathan if he didn't dodge it in time.
However, what happened next shocked him so much that his eyeballs nearly popped out of their sockets.
Instead of trying to block or dodge the incoming attack, Nathan simply stood there and glared coldly at it.
It wasn't until the flaming sledgehammer was inches away from his head that Nathan lifted his left hand and caught it with ease.
The flames on the sledgehammer disappeared the moment it came into contact with Nathan's hand.
Hawthorn's eyes went wide with shock and disbelief when he realized that the sledgehammer was stuck to Nathan's palm and refused to budge.
The bishops and Holy Knights were all frozen in shock as well.
Even the bondslaves and elite vampires were exchanging confused glances.
Colin and the others were the only ones who remained calm and composed throughout the situation.
After all, they perceived Nathan as a god among men. They had witnessed him killing a vampire prince, so dealing with a mere vampire earl would surely be a piece of cake.
Hepburn breathed a sigh of relief and stared at Nathan with a look of admiration in her eyes.
Of course, Brenton was the one most shocked by the sudden turn of events.
After all, he had been looking down on Nathan since they first met. At one point, he even thought about challenging Nathan to a fight to assert his dominance.
Having witnessed Nathan's display of power, however, Brenton realized just how ignorant he had been all this while.
The power that Nathan possesses is far beyond my imagination! My strength is nothing compared to his! Ugh, I can't believe I actually wanted to fight him before! The outcome would've been so embarrassing!

The look on Hawthorn's face was filled with fear and panic as he tried desperately to yank his
sledgehammer out of Nathan's grip, but to no avail.
It was as though the sledgehammer had been stuck to Nathan's palm with cement.
"Are you done fooling around yet?" Nathan asked coldly.
Fooling around?
Hawthorn's eyes went wide with surprise and confusion.
"It's about time you stop this nonsense," Nathan continued as he clenched his fist, crushing Hawthorn's sledgehammer into pieces instantly. Nathan then followed up with a swift punch to Hawthorn's face.
Bam!
That punch was so powerful that it shattered all the bones in Hawthorn's face.
Blood sprayed all over the place as Hawthorn went flying backward. He was dead by the time his body landed next to the vampires. What?
Everyone was so silent that one could easily hear a pin being dropped.
No one could believe that Nathan had just killed a vampire earl with one punch.
Nathan then turned toward Brenton, who was still lying on the ground, and asked coldly, "Are you okay?"
Having been snapped out of his
dazed state, Brenton thanked him profusely, "My arms are broken, but I'm still alive and breathing. Thank you very much for saving mylife, Mr. Cross."

"Don't thank me. I wouldn't have saved you if you didn't help us gather the bodies of our fallen Eurasian comrades earlier," Nathan replied.
Brenton's face was beet red with embarrassment and regret, but he also felt glad he had chosen to help out with the bodies.
