Runaway Wolf (Blue Moon Series) (Book 3)

Chapter 8

~Kyle~

Shadows were everywhere, I couldn’t make out anything. It was dark and cold, there was a weird thing in my head that constantly howled and whined. The air was stale and suffocating with different obnoxious smells all around me. I felt like I was trying to reach for something that was too far out of range, a scratching inside that made me want to lose my mind! It was like, I was never alone and always wanting something I didn’t know what? Suddenly I was consumed by light that blinded me sending shots of pain through my eyes. I was breathless and running, the solid feel of something underneath my feet till there was nothing there but air.

Gasping I shot up in the couch grabbing at the back of it; sweat was dripping down my face as I tried to catch my breath. A whine made me look over to see the wolf lying beside me on the couch. He was watching me with concern. I dug my hand in his soft fur, needing some sort of reassurance. Whimpering he scooted closer and rubbed his face against my face as if to calm me down.

Sighing I looked over at the clock to see it was 12:00 pm and the apartment was quiet. I knew that Levi wasn’t here, it might sound strange but I had this strong sense when he was around or not. I threw the blanket off me and placed my feet on the ground but made no move to stand just rested my head in my hands, rubbing them through my hair roughly. My head was throbbing painfully like it usually does when I have those types of dreams. They’re never clear so they always leave me confused and frustrated.

Glancing up I noticed a white paper on the table in front of me, reaching over I picked it up.

I’ve gone out with Matt; the mail man should be there around 12:00 to deliver your information to you. Just sign your name; I’ll be home in a few hours.

Levi.

Just then there was a knock causing both me and the wolf to snap our heads towards the door. Slowly I stood, walking with hesitant steps. For some weird reason I lifted my nose to sniff the air and knew that whoever was behind it I didn’t know. They knocked again,

“Hello, I have a package for Mr. Blackman” with that I opened it to see a man in tan shirt and shorts with a clipboard and big yellow folder.

“Yeah, he’s not here right now but he told me to sign something.” The guy just nodded and handed the clipboard over.

“Sign here sir.” I did, then he handed me the package and left.

“Have a nice day.”

“Yeah” I mumbled staring down at the bulging package in my hands.

This was it, where I can learn about myself, know who I really am. My mind was racing at a pace I couldn’t even explain. If I opened this how drastically would my ignorant world change? Would I remember, or just know a whole bunch of things about the stranger that is me? I swallowed and quickly threw the envelope on the table and rushed towards Levi’s room, it can wait a little while longer. I went straight for the shower and turned the water to a medium heat. Sheading all my clothes I stepped in just noticing the wolf laying in the door way, his head on his paws and his eyes closed. Slowly I slid down so I sat in the tub, the jet of water hitting me in a soothing manner as I stared at the animal.

“I should give you a name if you’re just going to follow me around all the time.” I voiced causing him to lift and cock his head at me.

“How about, Bill” I joked but I got a disapproving growl from him. I chuckled resting my head against the wall. “Alright, um, lets see… Jamie?” he huffed.

“Ok, no Jamie them, what about falcon” I smiled at him watching him from the corner of my eyes and saw him move his head away from me with dislike.

“Oh come on, that one was cool!” I laughed but he made no move.

“Bandit!” Nothing

At this point I was laughing hard at his pickiness.

“Lakota” suddenly came out of my mouth without much thought and his head shot up, his tail thumped wildly against the floor boards. I frowned at him and myself,

“Lakota it is then”

I dried off wrapping the towel around my waist. I walked towards Levi’s closet going through a bunch of shirts till I found one that fit. Then to the dresser he told me was his ‘boyfriends’ and snatched a pair of jeans much to my displeasure. I donned on the clothes but froze right when I was leaving the room. I was being pulled back in, towards the bed, something was calling me to it and I couldn’t stop myself from knelling over the bed, taking the sheets in my hands and hesitantly bringing them up to my nose.

I took a deep breath and my head began to swim with emotions I never felt before. A longing to be closer to and consume, MATE with. The sent reminded me of the sweet smell of apples and pine, so fresh and exquisite. It devoured all my sense till all I could do was fall forward and lay enveloped in the majesty of it all completely immobilized. A breathy moan left my lips as I twisted and turned in the sheets. My skin was tingly all over, I felt like I was floating in a peace of heaven. I just wanted to smother it all over me.

My thoughts were thrust back to last night, how I had the owner of this delicious scent under me, his body pressed against mine sending mine in a frenzy of hunger and need but yesterday I wasn’t hit this hard with his scent. Suddenly I wanted him here so I could get the full extent. Feel his lips upon mine, the solid feel of his lean body again.

I bunched his pillow and comforter in my arms and inhaled once more enjoying the seductive high it gave me. My body was hard and needy for release and my bottom and top canines were throbbing painfully. I slid off the bed reluctantly, fixing the mess and hurried from the room Lakota behind me. I glanced at the yellow package as I shoved my shoes on but I shook my head and opened the door letting the wolf out locking and closed it behind me. I needed air and so did Lakota.

The moment I was outside my mind went blank; the day flew by in what seemed like minutes. All I could remember was thinking about Levi the whole time. How things were moving at such a weird fast pace with the two of us, or was that all me. I just met this man but it’s not my fault I have all these crazy impulses when he’s close. How I recently want to pounce on him and take him, how my insides scratch at me to get at him. Not to mention all the bizarre things happening to me, my sense of smell becoming stronger, how I didn’t feel alone like there was something else inside me waiting at the surface, the way my body heat was skyrocketing; that was something I was barley noticing now. I sighed and looked around me for the first time, it was dark now. The sky was lit with small dots of light. Damn I’ve been walking for hours and barley noticed. I glanced around me to see the wolf still trotting beside me. I came to a stop to see where the hell we were. There were clubs and bars, traffic rushing both on the street and sidewalk. People were eyeing Lakota with warily looks as they passed.

When I couldn’t tell where I was I decided to across the street to ask someone at the bar I spotted. The sign in bright blue letters said the Nightly Howl. People were standing outside with strange beers bottles, men were laughing together or holding women to their sides and rough housing with them till they squeaked in delight. Everyone’s eyes came to rest on me and Lakota as I stopped by the door.

“Can we help you hun?” one of the women curled up in some man’s arms asked.

“Yeah, can you tell me where I can get to the Palm Plaza apartments from here?” a few of them laughed and looked at each other with amused expressions.

“Are you saying that you’re lost?” one of the guys asked. I nodded my head,

“That’s the first” he snickered along with some others.

“Shut up Carl” the woman scolded. She pulled away from her guy to step closer to me only to have Lakota growl at her. I glanced down at him to see that he was inching closer to my legs till his side was pressed against me.

“It’s alright, we’re cool.” She lulled him. “And to answer your question Palm Plaza is about two miles from here, down Creek drive this way” she said pointing to the cross street. I smiled,

“Thank you” I turned to leave when a hand shot out and Calmped down on my arm and yanked me to face a huge tall guy with a leather jacket and alcohol on his breath. I winced and tried to pull away from him but he was to strong. Lakota went crazy but wouldn’t come close to the guy.

“We don’t let strays run wild around here.” he growled. I frowned at him in confusion.

“What the hell are you talking about.” The others were quiet and stood back watching with bowed heads.

“You’re on my territory and rouges ain’t allowed, pup.” I looked down at Lakota as he barked and growled at him.

“Lakota would never hurt anyone” that took him back a step with a bewildered face.

“You really don’t know do you?” this time it was the woman. I turned to her and shook my head. She glanced at the men behind her and stepped up to me leaning in a taking a whiff at my neck. I just backed away watching her like she was crazy.

“What are you doing?” I asked her getting pretty freaked out. “Let go” I struggled now yanking at the big guys hands but to no avail.

“It’s true, he’s one of us” she voiced confused towards the one still holding me hostage in his meaty grip.

“Maybe he’s just good at playing stupid” another voice said.

“No, I don’t think so” the man finally let me go and I staggered back.

“Hey, sorry about that man, how about I buy you a beer as an apology.” The big guy said. I was about to shake my head when he threw his arm around my shoulder and guided me towards the door. “I insist.”

The bar was loud with raised drunken voices, boisterous laughter, clattering glasses and blaring music.

“Hey Benny get us two cold ones.” The large guys said before turning towards me.

“You drink right, how old are you?” I glanced around nervous,

“Um…”

“Ah, it doesn’t matter” he waved it off as someone set two blue colored bottles down. He took a gulp and slammed the bottle back down.

“You ever had a nice cold Wolf’s Bane?” he asked staring at me suggestively. I shook my head grabbing the neck of the bottle and sniffed it, to my surprise it had an inviting sweet earthy sent so I took a sip. The liquid exploded delightfully in my mouth and my body shivered.

“Whoa” I gasp staring down at my drink in astonishment.

“Yeah I know” he chuckled. “So what’s your name?” I took another sip,

“Kyle”

“I’m Pope, so tell me about yourself, Kyle” he asked curiously.

“There’s nothing to tell.” I shrugged.

“Oh don’t be that way, tell me where you’re from.” I sighed rubbing my forehead exasperated.

“I’m not being like anything, I really can’t tell you because I don’t know” I emphasized. He stared at me in surprise.

“Seriously?” I nodded. “You’re completely clueless of what you are.”

“What do you mean what I am? What am I?” I sat up straight in curiosity. “Wait do you know me?” he blinked with a frown forming in his face before leaning back with a sigh.

“Nah, I don’t know you kid. But I know what you are and from the smell of it you will too… soon” this was going nowhere. Why was everyone evaded my questions. He must have seen the disappointed look on my face and leant forward again.

“Look I can’t tell you right now because you won’t believe me anyway but when things start to become overwhelming for you, like a sense overload come here, ask for me and I’ll help you out.” He shrugged

“I don’t know” I said unsure if I can trust him.

“Kyle I’m a pretty reasonable and reliable guy and when I tell someone I’ll help them there’s no ulterior motive there.” I glanced down at my hands while I fidgeted with the bottle.

“Here I’ll help now, have you been feeling like your never alone? Like there’s something else deep down scratching at the surface.” he asked and my head shot up. “That’s what I thought”

“How did you…?”

“I’m telling you, I can help when you need It.” with that I took the time to look around the place and noticed a lot of people in very intimate positions, men had women against walls and had them sitting in their laps another couple was nearly ripping each other’s clothes off on the pool table. I could practically smell the sex in the air. I shifted my eyes away and back to my drink, I was sure there was a reddening tint to my cheeks.

Pope laughed as my reaction,

“Don’t worry about them, it’s almost a full moon” he said absently calling for another drink.

“Full moon?” I questioned. He looked at me realizing his slip and sighed.

“Yep.”

“What does the moon have to do with anything?” his face lighted suddenly.

“Do you have a special someone Kyle?” he asked and I nearly choked on the sip I took from my drink.

“No!” I said a little too quickly. He snickered.

“Who’s the lucky lady?” he grinned.

“There isn’t one” I scowled at him childishly.

“Guy, then? Smells like a guy. Hey I hear that’s possible too.” He shrugged casually. This time I did choked and he reached over the pat my back.

“It’s all good Kyle, no judging, we’re all open here.” Oh my god this guy is so not what he looks like. I rubbed my hands over my face in exasperation.

“I think I should get going before Levi starts to worry” I said absently getting to my feet.

“Levi, I know that kid” Pope stated. I looked at him expectantly.

“You do?”

“Not very well, we just pasted each other a few years back and have a few words now and then. So you’re staying at his place.” I nodded downing the rest of the delicious beverage and set it back down. I went to leave but I staggered back catching myself with the back of my chair for a moment.

“Whoa” Pope said rushing over to me and keeping my dizzy body from falling.

“What’s happening” I slurred barley able to stand without his solid form beside me.

“It’s the Wolf’s Bane, since you’ve never had any it’s hitting you hard.” He chuckled. I laughed out loud.

“That’s a dumb name for a drink” he shook his head and helps me out. Lakota was there sitting patiently at the door when we came out.

“Damn boss what you do to him” someone asked in amusement.

“I gave him a Bane”

“Light weight”

“Oh shut up jay you were like that once too” a woman snickered.

“Will you all just can it and get the car.” Pope ordered.

I was placed in a spacious backseat, maybe in an SUV or something; Lakota was laying over me protectively watching anyone who made any sudden moves. I lay there feeling a calming happiness wash over my disorientated body digging my fingers in soft think fur. I was picked up suddenly and I whimpered in disappointment of being moved from the comfy car.

“Come on Kyle, I got you.” He grunted. I heard a knock and the door swung open.

“Kyle!” Levi exclaimed. He looked really worried and I wanted to reach out and comfort him but I could barley move a muscle now I was so tired..

I was put back down and I felt the tingles rocketing through my skin while Levi placed a hand on my face.

“What the hell did you do to him!” he yelled at someone.

“I didn’t do anything, he’s just a light weight is all” Pope answered.

“What did you tell him?” Levi demanded.

“The same I did you, the boy was on my territory what did you expect from me? I don’t just let any rogue run my streets. Anyway he doesn’t remember what he is thought I bet you know that, I’m going to guess he’s Blue Moon then.”

“Yes, now go away Pope” Levi’s voice was so far away but I heard the tightness in it.

“Alright kid but I’m telling you now, if you don’t tell him soon he’s going to be in for a rude awakening. Especially with the full moon around the corner” He said suggestively. With that all the voices stopped and it was completely silent. My shoes were pulled off and a blanket was pulled over me and the tingles caressed my skin again till I reached out instinctively and held them closer.

“Kyle” Levi said in a surprised warning.

“Shh” I said into his hair pulling him in under the blanket with me hugging him tight inhaling apples and pine.

“Yoou feeeel so goood” I slurred in his ear right before the shocks and tingles between us soothed me into the best sleep I ever had.
