Runaway Wolf (Blue Moon Series) (Book 3)

Chapter 13

Those were the things that were going through my head as I finally drove out of California and crossed the state lines of Oregon but there was no way I could stop here. The Blue Moon pack was way to close and I would never put them at risk like this. Which meant my whole life I had to leave behind, my friends and family but it was for the best because I would only get them hurt in the end and I couldn’t have that on my hands. I already took Matt’s life… I cringed at the thought and a lump filled my throat. How could this be, I never suspected a thing. He seemed to really care from me and I him, I could never get rid of the image of the way he lay at my feet his eyes open and lifeless or the sound of the deafening crack of his neck.

And just to thing only a few weeks ago we were laughing and joking around, making love and enjoy life but the whole time he was a hunter. Dangerous to me and everyone back home if I had introduced him to anyone at blue moon. Sighing I drove through dense tree areas, where our pack was hidden somewhere in. I glanced over at Kyle who was sleeping with his head resting against the glass window. He had drifted off about twenty minutes ago and I wished I could as well but I was too wired as I constantly glanced in the review and side mirrors watching out for any cars that seem to be following but we were safe at the moment. I should seriously leave Kyle here with his family, they could probably help him remember but some selfish part of me deep down refused to let him go again.

I watched him shift in his sleep and I couldn’t help but admire his beauty. His growing blonde hair fell in his face. His slightly opened lips were so thick I couldn’t help remembering them on mine, how soft they were, how moist and warm they had been. I closed my eyes for a second before glancing back out the windshield.

Stop, I scowled myself. My boyfriend was just killer… by me and now I’m fantasizing about kissing Kyle. I was so screwed up.

I drove on the endless expansion of roads, through traffic and highways. I had no idea where I was going but I just though the further I got the safe we’d be right?

I could feel Kyle’s eye on me for a while now and it was starting to make me nervous. I shifted in my seat keeping my eyes on the darkening road as the sun went down.

“Can you stop” I spoke finally after hours on the road, unable to take it anymore.

“What?” his deep voice sounded beside me and shiver ran down my spine. I closed my eyes relishing in the sexy and mystifying tone. A delicious hum started in my body as I tried my hardest to focus back on the drive.

“Stop staring at me please.” I whispered huskily.

“Oh, I’m sorry I didn’t realize.” He sounded embarrassed and I couldn’t help but smile abit at his innocence. He was so different from the old Kyle I knew, it was wrong but I loved this Kyle a lot more than the old one.

The car was quiet once again as I pulled into a Wendy’s drive through as we passed into a small town on the outskirts of Oregon. I heard both mine and Kyle’s stomach for the last couple hours. We hadn’t really had anything decent since yesterday at olive garden.

“You want something?” I asked glancing at Kyle.

“Doesn’t matter just get some food” he whined and I laughed lightly.

“Welcome to Wendy’s what can I get for you today” a male voice asked over the intercom.

“Yeah can I get two number five combos, a large fry with a cheeseburger and two large cokes and water.”

“Alright please pull up to the window” I did as asked and paid for the food. I drove back on the street but pulled off to the side when I was in the cover of some trees. The car smelt delicious as I settled down cut the engine and dug into the bag. Kyle was already stuffing his face with food and I shook my head. I reached into the bag for the cheeseburger and large fry and turned backwards to lay the now ripped bag on the backseat and pour the fries on it for the wolf and set the box with the burger beside it. He quickly dug into the food with a ravenous behavior.

Once the wolf was eating I did the same. The car was filled with sounds of chomping and smacking as we dug into our food. I was so hungry I swear my stomach was touching my back!

To quickly my meal was gone along with Kyle’s, it didn’t fill us but it did the trick for the moment. The pup was already done by the time either of us were finished. I stepped out of the car to open the door for the wolf and he zoomed out and into the woods we were parked by.

“Well he had to go didn’t he” I muttered.

“I would imagine we’ve been cramped in that damn car for a hours. In fact I have to go to” Kyle said and turned to walk in the woods too. I did the same but kept my ears and eyes on the distance wary of staying to long in one spot. Hunters were persistent bastards with the right equipment and resources to find us.

Before long we were back on the road driving to who know where.

I groggily pulled over on the side of the road once again after almost all night out on the road and into the early morning. I could barely keep my eyes open since I’ve practically be awake for two days straight. I glanced down at my gas and realized I was almost on E.

“Why are we stopping” Kyle asked.

“Because I’m about to pass out” I muttered. He had at least ten hour of sleep while I’ve been drive all freaking day and night.

“Well what are we going to do?” he asked glancing around the window into the dark deserted highway of Washington. We had just left Oregon an couple hour back.

“First we need to find a gas station and second a nice place to park and sleep.” I stated rubbing my eyes drowsily and stifled a yawn. After a few minutes I was about to pull back out on the road when Kyle stopped me.

“I can drive” his offer was very hesitant so I glanced at him.

“You remember how?” he shook his head.

“No but I’ve been watching you and it doesn’t seem all that hard.” He shrugged. I pondered for a moment, I really didn’t want him wrecking my car but I was so tired I was about to collapse so I took a BIG chance and nodded getting out of the car. Kyle did the same and we switched seats. Buckling in I watched him do the same and pointed at all the things he needed know.

“That is the brake, this is the gas and right here is the stick you can put it in drive and park or reverse to go backwards. This is the speedometer it tells you how fast you’re going, the signs on the road will tell you the limits you need to keep the car at ok don’t go over or under or we’ll be pulled over by a nosy cop alright.” He only nodded at what I said paying attention to everything I pointed at so I was hopeful we wouldn’t be stuck in a ditch somewhere.

“Now look for a gas station.” He nodded and put the car in drive pulling back out on the road.

The ride was a little bumpy in the beginning but it smoothed out after about a few miles as he got use to it. I tried to stay up the longest I could helping him search for a gas station but when it was taking too long I just pulled out a hundred dollar bill and handed it to him and told him to fill the tank before I fell asleep.
