Revenge Against My Ex-husband

Chapter 214 The Cat Has Gotten Out Of The Bag

While Joanne was feeling joyful looking at Rowane's photo, Lily was also looking at the same image of Rowane. However, she wasn't looking at it alone. Deborah was beside her as well.

The mother and daughter had moved out from the Cook family. They stayed comfortably in the premium ward in a private hospital. Deborah had been taking a shower when Joanne called Lily. When she came out from the bathroom, she noticed Lily's solemn expression and asked who had called her just now.

Lily once brought up to Deborah about Joanne wanting to cooperate with her before. So, she wouldn't hide the call from her and immediately shared her phone conversation with Joanne to Deborah. "What a coincidence that Joanne met Rowane in Mencodia," Deborah knew that Marie had sent Rowane overseas, but she did not realize that Marie had hired an assassin to kill Rowane. Marie sent her to Mencodia because she was afraid that Rowane would spill the truth about their scheme involving Edric and Lily. She did not want her to contact Edric in any way. She failed to know that Marie would think Lily was her own biological daughter, and that Rowane was her daughter instead. Marie was afraid that she would be caught for swapping the babies out years ago. Hence, she wanted to kill Rowane. Lily said, "Yeah, I did not expect that too. However, it's a good thing. Since Joanne is planning to defeat Irene, she plans to use Rowane as leverage to help us, which could save us a lot of trouble." Deborah frowned, "Is Joanne reliable? I feel rather anxious about her since she's also Nathan's younger sister. If she tells Nathan about this, won't we be in trouble once he tells Irene?"

"Mom, you don't have to worry about this. Joanne is Jordan's fiancée, and she hates Irene. Otherwise, she wouldn't have told me about Irene getting pregnant with Edric's child and helped me to come out with ideas to deal with Irene. Although Edric has already misunderstood Irene and refuses to forgive her because of his mother's case, their relationship had initially run deep. Both Eden and the child in Irene now are his flesh. What if he forgives Irene one day? It's better if we keep on acting offensive so that Irene will leave Edric once and for all."

Deborah thought for a moment and agreed, "You're right. We should prepare another helping hand, but you need to remind Joanne to never let Nathan contact Rowane. Otherwise, something bad might happen."

Lilu chuckled, "Don't worry, Mom. Joanne clearly knows about Nathan's feelings for Irene. She wouldn't be so stupid to let Nathan ruin our plans."

Deborah nodded, but she intended to find some time to talk to Marie about the matter. She wanted to know her opinion about it. With Marie's help, they were getting closer and closer to their goal. Hence, she admired Marie and wanted to discuss everything with her.

Steven was hospitalized from his sudden blackout. At that moment of chaos, no one had found the letter he had thrown on the ground until Maisy did while cleaning the study room. When she read the contents of the letter, Maisy was taken aback and understood why Steven had fainted.

Maisy sealed her lips and waited for Irene to not be present before asking Steven. Maisy had served the Cook family for many years, and she was loyal to Steven. So, Steven did not bother hiding it from her either. He instructed Maisy to not mention it to anyone, especially Irene. He wanted to think of his plan to punish Deborah.

Maisy sensed Steven's anxiety. If Irene knew about this matter, she would not let Deborah go and instead make the matter public. If that ever happened, Steven's career would be affected. So, the matter needed to be carried out in secret.

Maisy asked Steven about his plan to punish Deborah, so Steven shared it with her. Firstly, he needed to lock Deborah up and interrogate her before punishing her.

Just as Steven was telling Maisy about how he was going to deal with Deborah, Deborah and Lily both started to feel uncomfortable at the private hospital. Was something terrible going to happen?

Just as they were thinking about it, Steven's driver arrived. He reported that Steven had fainted suddenly and wanted Deborah to visit him.

Deborah hurriedly left with the driver after hearing that Steven had fainted. However, the driver did not send her to the hospital and brought her to Steven's villa in the outskirts instead.

Deborah noticed that the route he took was wrong and asked the driver what was going on. The driver answered that Mr. Cook did not want to stay in the hospital and preferred the outskirts because of the fresh air. So, he had planned to rest there for a few days.

Deborah did not know that Steven had a villa in the outskirts. She thought, "Steven must have something up his sleeve. I've been married to him for many years, and I knew every single one of his assets. If it wasn't for his sickness this time, I wonder how long Steven would hide this from me?" Steven had plenty of properties under him since he had been an official for many years. It seemed that she needed to find a way to get all his assets.

The driver drove the car into the villa as she was busy with her thoughts. Deborah got out of the car and saw Maisy standing in the living room. Maisy pointed at the study room when Deborah entered and said "Mr. Cook is waiting for you at the study room on the second floor."

Deborah pushed open the study room door and was instantly welcomed with Steven glaring at her. She asked caringly, "Aren't you unwell? Why are you not lying down to rest?"

"I can't sleep," Steven let out a long sigh.

"Even if you can't sleep, you should still lie down. I'll help you to your bedroom," Deborah approached him and was about to help him up. However, Steven grabbed Deborah's hand and asked, "How many years have we known each other?"

"More than twenty years."

"It's been that long?" Steven's voice became gentler, "Say, how did I end up on your bed that year? It's incredible when you think about it."

"Weren't you drunk?" Deborah forced a smile. What was Steven referring to? He had never spoken about that topic, so why was he mentioning it all of a sudden? Did he suspect something?

"I panicked and was afraid at that time. My instincts had told me that I had done something wrong with you while I was drunk. However, come to think of it, I realized that it all happened quite strangely. Why did you still give birth to this child even though you knew it was the wrong thing to do? What were you thinking?"

Deborah glanced at Steven and noticed that he remained a poker face. However, she could not help feeling guarded. Steven had asked her the same question a long time ago, but the old Deborah had replied that it was because she had fallen in love with Steven at first sight.

If Steven wasn't Myra's husband, then she would have gone all out to pursue him. However, she suppressed her feelings until that night when he had gotten drunk. She had never blamed Steven for that unexpected incident. Instead, she had given him all of her willingly. After finding out that she was pregnant, she felt conflicted. However, in the end, she really did not want to get rid of the child.

Although she knew that her actions were wrong and that they would hurt Myra, her love for Steven had motivated her to give birth to the child. She had planned to not tell that to Steven for her entire life. If it wasn't for Myra's incident, she would have secretly raised the child on her own. However, Myra had gotten into an accident, and she couldn't control her thoughts for Steven. Her daughter was constantly asking for a father too, so she had to bring the child to Steven.

Now that Steven had asked such a question, Deborah could not understand what Steven's real intentions were. So, she repeated the exact words she had said to him in the past.

Steven suddenly chuckled after hearing her reply. At that time, he had not believed in Deborah's words. If it weren't for him being reported, he would not have brought Deborah into the family in the first place. Later, he gradually forgot about that matter after seeing Deborah. If it weren't for that anonymous letter, he never would have suspected her. He thought about his foolishness for keeping a snake as his wife all these years and asked, "Myra has passed away for all these years. Have you never felt uneasy since then?"

His words made Deborah's heart skip a beat. She forced a smile and answered, "Yes, I've always been uneasy about what happened that year."

"Just feeling uneasy? Do you experience sleepless nights and nightmares?" Steven's voice rose.

"What do you mean?" Deborah stammered in shock.

"Deborah Jones! What is this?!!" Steven threw the anonymous letter towards Deborah.

Deborah picked up the letter that had fallen to the ground. When she read the contents, she grew flustered, but she managed to pretend to be calm. Who did this? Only she and Logan knew what had happened that year. Logan would definitely not expose the incident. Then, who was the sender of the letter?

However, now was not the time to figure out the identity of this anonymous writer. She had to make sure that Steven believed in her instead. She pleaded, "Steven, don't trust this preson. Someone must be framing me on purpose to ruin our relationship."

"As the saying goes, there is no smoke without fire. Why would others frame you and not someone else? I can't wrap my head around that night when I was drunk. Your reputation in Cat Alley was bad, you wicked woman. So, you had to have some ill intentions to plot against me. If you knew that that incident was a shameful act, why didn't you get rid of the child? Why did you raise her secretly and then bring her down to hell with you? Why did you have to find me? Don't tell me that it was because you couldn't bear the child not having a father. When you gave birth to this child, you should have known that I would never admit her as my daughter!"

"I really couldn't bear to see my child without a father, so I came to you," Deborah explained.

"You wicked woman. Tell me honestly, did you find Myra to tell her about the fact that you had given birth to an illegitimate child? Otherwise, she would not have let Dave settle her funeral and documents before her death nor would she have passed Irene to Dave. It must be you who did all of that to cause her death!"

Steven was not a fool. He had always known that something was wrong in the past. After he had read the anonymous letter and thought carefully, Myra must have told Thomas to settle everything for her after she was gone. The only person who would have disclosed that information to her would have to be Deborah. As he watched Deborah continue to try deceiving him, he could no longer bear it.

"You wicked woman! Your daughter got herself a father, but Myra's own daughter had lost hers. My dear Irene had to leave the house because of this."

Steven choked on his words. Deborah had schemed Myra's death, and Irene had been forced to leave the house when she was young. He had ended up marrying a wicked woman and had let her live an extravagant life for so many years. He was a fool!

"I didn't! Steven, don't you see how good I've treated you all these years? You can't accuse me of this!" Deborah exclaimed and panicked.

Deborah exclaimed and panicked. Steven had begun to suspect her, so he would never let Lily and she live a good life in the future.

"Since you feel that Irene has been wronged, then you should give her all of your assets. Lily and I don't need anything from you, so you don't have to worry about that. If it'll ease your mind, then Lily and I will move out so that you'll know that we harbor no ill-intention against you!"

"Move out?" Steven chuckled, "Are you really willing to withdraw from your position as Mrs. Cook? A title that you've worked so hard to earn?"

"Steven, I had never wanted to ascend to the throne. If you really insist that I had evil intentions, it was because I really love you. I love you so much that I had wished to stay by your side day and night..." "Shut up!" Steven bellowed, "You b*tch, do you take me as a fool? How can a vicious person like you talk about love?"

"Steven! I know that you're angry, and you won't believe anything I say. That's fine. I'll make you believe it. I'll take Lily and move out now. I'm leaving!"

After Deborah said so, she walked out of the study. Steven's current behavior scared her. She could not help trembling as she left the place.

Steven coldly watched her leave. Deborah could not care less about anything else and rushed out of the door. However, the moment she stepped out, she saw the driver and Maisy standing at the stairway, watching her. Both of them had sinister smiles on their faces.
