Chapter 213 Her Real Identity
After getting the photo from Nathan, Joanne returned to her room. She closed the door and observed Rowane's picture carefully again. Her lips stretched into a smile. Just as she was racking her brains on how to stop Nathan from returning to the country, a girl who looked like Irene appeared. Hence, she immediately thought of a plan and decided use this unknown girl as leverage to keep Nathan around. Therefore, she pretended to pity Rowane's situation and managed to get Nathan to bring Rowane home. Then, she would find an opportunity to carry out her plan. However, before she could execute her agenda, she had to ensure to fulfill the promise she had made. She sent Rowane's picture to her best friend, Linda, and asked to get her husband to investigate Rowane's identity.
Britney and Nathan were furious with Joanne because of the incident with Irene. They were not as loving towards her as they had been in the past. Instead, they treated her coldly. She was anxious because of that and had tried many ways to please Britney, but she had failed all the time. Both Britney and Nathan behaved relatively neutral with her.
She clearly noticed how Britney had looked at her with approval when she mentioned that she would share Rowane's photo with Linda's husband to get his help in the investigation. Nathan was pleased to hear that too, so she had to take the opportunity to change their impression of her.
One knew that both Britney and Nathan were kind-hearted people. They loved people who were caring and sentimental. If she showed her kindness and enthusiasm in front of them, they would definitely like her again.
Moreover, she was rather curious about Rowane's identity. Finding out about Rowane's identity would be of great help to her plan of using Rowane to stop Nathan from returning to Haverland.
Joanne dialed Linda's number and told her everything about Rowane. Linda was a Mecodian-born Chinese and was Joanne's schoolmate. They were close to each other, so naturally, she agreed to Joanne's request and requested her to send Rowane's photo over immediately.
After hanging up on the call, Joanne opened her WhatsApp and opened her chat with Linda. She sent Rowane's photo and scrolled through her social media for a while. Then, she put the phone down and got ready to take a bath.
Just as she was about to enter the bathroom, her phone rang. Joanne glanced at the screen and saw that it was Linda calling her. She couldn't help but feel confused. Was Linda's husband so efficient? He had managed to find her identity within half an hour?
She picked up the call and asked, "Dear, is there really news so soon?"
Linda said, "What news? Why haven't you sent me the girl's photo? I've already told William, and he's waiting for you to send him the photo!"
Joanne was shocked, "I've just sent you the photo. Didn't you receive it?"
"What app did you use to send it?"
"I used Whatsapp. Aren't you online?"
"I've been online this whole time. I didn't receive it at all. Did you send it to the wrong person?"
"No way, let me check," Joanne hurriedly hung up on the call and opened her Whatsapp. At a glance, she realized she really had sent the photo to the wrong person. She had accidentally sent Rowane's photo to Lily. Lily's name was similar to Linda's, and they had the same profile picture. So, she had sent the image to the wrong person without checking.
She scolded herself for being careless. She hurriedly dug through her album for Rowane's photo. When she was about to send it to Linda, Lily called her.
It seemed that Lily was curious about Rowane's photo and called to ask what her photo was about. Joanne answered the call and planned to explain to her about her accident. However, before she could even say anything, Lily asked her first, "Miss White, why did you send Rowane Wood's photo to me? Do you know her too?"
Joanne's heart skipped a beat, "What did you say? You know that girl?"
Lily said, "Yes, she's a student from the University of San Fetillo. She's been studying abroad in Mencodia for a few months. I didn't expect you to know her."
"Oh, yes, there was this one time that she got lost on the street, so she had asked me for directions. After chatting for a while, I came to know that we were from the same hometown. So that was how we knew each other. However, she had never mentioned you before, so I didn't expect you to know her," Joanne subconsciously didn't want to tell Lily about Rowane's amnesia, so she made up an excuse.
Lily believed her, because why would Joanne lie to her? She chuckled, "What a small world. Who would have expected that you guys would know each other like that? By the way, why did you send me her photos?"
"Um," Joanne did not know how to explain her mishap to Lily.
However, Lily jumped the gun and said, "Oh, I know. You must've thought that she looked like Irene, so you sent it to me to check, right?"
Joanne quickly regained her composure and said, "Yes, she looks so similar to Irene. That's why I sent it to you. What do you think?"
"That's right. I was shocked from the first time I saw Rowane too. I didn't expect that she would look so similar to Irene. Due to that fact, Edric took notice of her and kept her under his wing."
Lily felt uncomfortable after mentioning that. Although nothing had happened between Rowane and Edric, the thought of her bearing a face alike to Irene's that attracted Edric pissed her off. Plus, Rowena had managed to spend quite a long time by Edric's side and Edric had taken care of her quite well. Lily was incredibly jealous of her.
"What did you say? Edric knew her? Do Rowane and Irene know each other? Can you explain their relationship in detail?"
The news excited Joanne. She would never have thought her mistake would not only reveal Rowane's identity, but also vital information to help her plan succeed. So, she decided to ask Lily about everything related to Rowane.
"Well..." Lily stuttered in hesitation. She had blurted out Rowane's relationship with Edric out of anger just now.
Joanne was merely her scheming partner and nothing more. She was not even her best friend, so she did not intend to tell Joanne so many details. After all, some matters should not be shared with outsiders. For instance, she had used Rowane to widen the gap between Edric and Irene. Also, Rowane had helped her to drug Edric to create the illusion that Edric and her slept together.
Although those were the things in the past, those were all dirty schemes. Even if Joanne kept the secret dearly, she did not intend to let Joanne know about them at all.
Joanne could sense Lily's worries instantly. She did not like Lily and was clear that Lily did not like being stepsisters with Irene at all. Otherwise, she would not have been at Irene's neck and caused the divorce between Edric and Irene.
Now, she desperately needed Lily's cooperation to perfect her battle against Irene. She could only temporarily suppress the disgust in her heart and pretended to speak affectionately.
"Miss Cook, have you forgotten about our deal? If we need to handle Irene well, we need to grab every possible opportunity. Since Edric used to be close with Rowane, why don't we seize this opportunity to ruin Edric's relationship with Irene?"
Lily replied, "Oh, I know what you mean. However, Rowane is in Mencodia now, and Edric has never been in touch with her ever since. She seems to be useless, right?"
"You can't say that. Although Rowane is in Mencodia now, her heart may still remain in San Fetillo with Edric. You would be clear about that too. A love interest like Edric would be hard for Rowane to move on from. I'll just add some fuel to the fire so her passion for Edric would be reignited. By then, we can use her to deal with Irene."
"What if Rowane refuses to let go of Edric? Won't that affect my relationship with Edric? After all, Edric and Irene have bad blood now, so there isn't a need for us to cause any more trouble, right?" Joanne was on the brink of swearing. How could Lily be so sly? She could not persuade her at all? Her tone became impolite as she started to feel impatient.
"Miss Cook, why can't you understand what I mean? I'm just saying that we can take advantage of Rowane's feelings on Edric to ruin Irene and Edric's relationship. I didn't say that she could obtain Edric's heart, so why are you so worried? Plus, do you think that Edric will despise Irene for the rest of his life just because of Margaret's coma? Do you realize that Edric and Irene's relationship is deep enough for him to forgive Irene in no time? What if Margaret wakes up? By then, it would be easier for Edric to forgive Irene."
Lily was startled by her words. She was indeed worried that Margaret would wake up, and then Edric would find out that the culprit had not been Irene but Marie and Deborah. Subsequently, he would not blame Irene anymore and would feel frustrated because it would be hard for him to get back to Irene's side.
After digesting her point, she realized that Joanne's idea might work. So, she told everything about Rowane to Joanne. Of course, she left out the details about how she had used Rowane. She did not talk about Rowane's relationship with Marie or about Marie had sent Rowane out of the country and hired an assassin to murder her. Otherwise, she wouldn't even spill the beans to Joanne that she knew Rowane. Joanne was only interested in clarifying Rowane's identity, her relationship with Edric in San Fetillo, and Irene's complications. She did not care about whether Lily had taken advantage of Rowane before. All she bothered about was using Rowane to destroy Nathan's relationship with Irene, not the relationship between Irene and Edric.
Lily finally concluded, "That's all I know. Rowane is naïve and she trusts people easily. As long as you give her slightly more attention, she would treat you as her best friend."
Joanne was overjoyed, "Great, I understand now. Wait for good news from me. I'll definitely do my best to pull Rowane in. I'll make her the stumbling block between Irene and Edric."
Lily smiled and said, "Miss White, then I'll have to give you my thanks first!"
"Miss Cook, you don't have to be so polite with me. I've already said that we're partners. Remember to let me know if there's any news from San Fetillo in the future. Also, for insurance's sake, don't mention about me to Rowane in case she gets suspicious."
"No, I don't keep in contact with her. Even if I did, I wouldn't be so stupid to tell her."
Both of them chatted for a while and ended the call. Joanne realized that she had yet to reply to Linda's message. Since she knew about Rowane's identity already, there wasn't a need for Linda's help to proceed with the investigation. Hence, she called Linda and explained that someone had identified Rowane. There was no need for Linda's assistance anymore. Linda believed her and did not ask for the photo anymore.
For now, she had to not let Nathan know about Rowane's real identity yet. Otherwise, her plan would be ruined. Since Nathan had just begun the investigation, he wouldn't get any results anytime soon. So, she still had time to execute her plan.
She took out Rowane's photo again. She sneered as she glared at that beautiful face, "Don't blame me for using you. It's just unfortunate for you to look similar to a brat like Irene!"
