Rejected To Be Your Second Chance: Chapter 5
”There’s something about you,” he said and looked quizzically at me. ”You’re different,” I was confused.
My fingers were starting to shake and as much as I tried to press them to keep them still it didn’t work.
”Let’s go,” he grabbed my arm and narrowed his eyes. Kade turned around and headed for the door with me dragging behind him.
”What, no!” I pull my arm free and stare at him completely baffled. We were out in the hall and Alpha Kade was merely a shadow in the dark right now. Nobody would be home for hours and so I was left alone with the most talked about Alpha that ever existed. And it wasn’t his kindness and bubbly personality that was talked of. He won every battle he ever fought and right now he wanted to win this one.
”What do you mean no?” He asked lowly and I gulped.
”I mean that I’m not coming with you,”
”You’re mine. Do you think I’m gonna leave without you?”
”My family is here and my friends,”
He stepped closer and all I saw was a silhouette. I felt his hand on the side of my neck, a sudden hot flash washing over me once again and my legs started to tremble.
He leaned down and placed a kiss on my jaw.
”I’m not leaving without you,” I drew a shaky breath and sighed.
” Then you’re not leaving,” I whispered. Kade stopped and stepped back. The door to the house opened and voices filled the hall and the lamps were turned on. I didn’t see or hear for a couple of seconds, too caught up in my head.
”Layla, honey, what are you doing standing there in the dark like that?” My mother asked with a hand on her chest. I shook my head and came to my senses but Kade was gone.
”I was just heading to the bathroom,” I said and turned around quickly. I ran into the bathroom and stood still in complete shock. My fingers traced over the place where Kade’s lips had touched me and my body ached for more.
But I couldn’t leave my life here just because he was my mate, could I?
The next morning started normal. I had a cup of coffee and then another one.
Tracey had already left for work and I sat by the table staring at the wall.
”Are you feeling alright, dear?” My mom asked me as she got ready to head out.
”I’m fine, just a little tired,” she nodded her head. I jumped up from the chair and my mom turned around.
”Do you know if the Alphas have left yet?” I asked her and tried to sound as casual as possible.
”I believe so, yes,” she said and took her keys. I released a sigh and slumped down on the chair with a smile.
”Oh except for Alpha Kade, he extended his stay for a few more days.” My eyes widened and my lips pressed together.
’The danger isn’t over
Is it Kade?
’I can’t say
Why?
’Because I don’t know. All I know is that there is a danger and it’s around us
I walked to the pack house in a fashionable order, hoping that I didn’t look as tense as I felt. Anna and I had planned to meet up there to plan the Fall Festival and hopefully, it would take my mind off everything else.
It was weird because I wanted to be with Kade, he was my mate, but it felt strange in the sense that the bond didn’t feel too connected.
It was an odd feeling and nothing like I had ever heard. Maybe it was because he was my second chance mate and the bond might not be as strong. Could that be it?
The second I stepped into the pack house I froze. Right there in the middle of a swarm of people stood Alpha Sebastian and Alpha Kade side by side.
Missy did a double take, her eyes were fixated on Kade and I think I saw drool coming down the side of her mouth.
Missy strutted over with a scoff.
”Seems like the mutt wants a peek at the show. Please don’t walk too close to him, we wouldn’t him catching your germs,” she and her little bitch squad laughed and she strutted back to Kade. Her hand graced his arm and he shrugged it off with a scowl. The deep frown on Sebastian’s face only grew and I had to hold back the laugh that wanted to burst out from seeing how miserable he was.
Sebastian was nothing more than a kid who had far too much power. He would snap like a twig under an Alpha like Kade. Under any Alpha.
Kade’s eyes shifted and locked on me. The laugh I had inside died down and I walked past all of them and into the open area where everyone studied or worked.
Annas’s face lit up and I saw the giant folder in her hands.
” I see you have ideas,” I said and sat down.
She winced and opened it up. ”Just a few,” she said and flipped the pages. There were decorations, food, music, and activities.
”Let’s hear them,” I said with a laugh.
”Well I thought we could set up booths like last time, it was appreciated. We’ll have a bunch of games that all ages can play and then on the other side of the park we can have the snack booths,” she continued to the different types of snacks she had in mind and I just nodded my head and pretended to hear. Though all I could think about was how I felt Kade outside the room and his smell was seeping up my nose and causing my mind to drift even further than it already had.
”Hello, are you listening to me?” Anna waved her hand in front of my face and I nodded my head.
”Yeah no I heard, it sounds great,” I said and smiled. The door opened up and Annas’ cheeks blushed.
”Alpha, hi,” she said and I saw Kade bow his head. He walked in with Sebastian behind him and everyone else was about to step in as well.
”I’d like to speak to Layla alone,” he said and they stopped by the door.
Anna closed the folder and stood.
”No you don’t have to go,” I said and grabbed her hand, desperately pleading with my eyes for her to stay. She smiled and winked at me, thinking she was doing me a favor.
The only ones left now were me, Kade, Sebastian, and Missy with her friends.
”In private,” Kade repeated and looked at them. Missy scoffed and Sebastian shook his head.
”She’s my pack member, whatever you have to say to her, I as her Alpha can hear.”
”Is that how you run your pack? By scrutinizing and removing the privacy of your pack members?” Kade asked and lifted his head.
”Only the ones who aren’t very good,” Missy said and laughed.
”That’s how you let people talk to her?” Nobody spoke and the vibe died down. It suddenly wasn’t very funny.
”Oh come on, she’s a mutt. You’re much better off hanging out with us, it’s important to have good connections,” Missy said and dragged her fingers down his arm. He yanked her hand and held it up. Missy yelped and staggered on her feet.
”And it’s equally as important to not make enemies with the wrong people. The lack of respect you and your pack members have is astonishing.” He let go of Missy’s hand and she stepped back.
”Excuse me? I run my pack just fine. They’re having some fun, isn’t that right Layla?” They turned their heads and Sebastian smiled but he tensed and wanted me to answer him.
”Yeah, fun,” I said in a monotone voice and narrowed my eyes.
”Having fun disrespecting and bullying another pack member? That’s fun to you?”
”You have no idea what you’re talking about. This is my pack, I’m the Alpha here,” Sebastian said, sounding like a kid who was about to throw a tantrum.
”Then let me tell you, Alpha, how this is going to work-” Kade said and stepped closer to him. Sebastian tried his best to look bigger but it didn’t do much in his favor.
”-Layla is coming with me and anyone who tries to stand in my way will be considered an enemy and handled as such.”
