Chapter 23: "Your more than half"
“It should be darling. I haven’t seen my sons for a whole week, none the less you for twelve years.” My grandmother said looking over to me with a smile.
“Now, look at you! You’ve grown up to be beautiful women.” Granddad put in.
“Well, it’s nice to see my grandparents again after so long,” I told them with a smile.
“So, who’s the boy?” Granddad asks looking to Daniel next to me.
“These are my friends, well mostly. Daniel, Bambi, and Sasha. Guys these are my grandparents.” I said introducing them.
“Yes, nice to meet some of Anglia’s friends…” grandmother was saying before granddad finish her sentence.
“But the boy?”
“Well, mom and dad right now it seems like their just friends. It’s a complicated relationship going on between them, but as we establish after this their more likely get together in the end of all of this.” My dad told them.
“Want us to tell you the story?” Sasha asks them.
“We would love to hear it later, but were running out of time. Son, it’s time to tell her what you two been keeping from her all these years.” My grandmother said looking between my mom and dad.
“Have a seat and I’ll continue.” My dad told them.
They took a there seat next to Mr. Hall and Zoe. My dad took his seat next to my mom. Which I just now notice them, how close they seat to each other. I look at them closer seeing no reluctant from my mother as my dad grab her hands.
“Tatrous Askin was my mentor when I was little. I lived with him sometimes when my parents go out looking for trouble. He disappeared on the day I met your mother. I didn’t know what happen to him or heard from him in thirty years until now.” My dad started.
“When we started dating and all that we didn’t know at the time. It was after I was pregnant with you when my mother told me.” Mom added.
“What?” I ask.
“That my father was a vampire, that I was a hampire.” She said looking down at the ground.
“You’re more than half.” Dad put in.
The words were lost in my throat as I stare at my parents. More than half? Is my mom a hampire? I’m more than half of a vampire. If it works out like how I’m thinking that makes me three-forth of a vampire.
“What…What!” I ask.
“I didn’t know that I was a hampire until I was twenty and pregnant with you. My dad didn’t stay when my mom got pregnant with me. My mom decided to keep him and his life from me until I was pregnant with you.”
“She told us because she thought you wouldn’t survive the birth, but you did.” My dad said looking me straight in the face.
“Then why did you guys decide to do the same thing to me?” I ask after a minute.
They both look to each other then back to me “Tatrous came back.”
“He didn’t come back with good intentions either. I was afraid he will find out about you and come after you. So, we made the choice of keeping you in the dark until it was necessary to tell you.” My dad told me.
“We thought Reborn Academy will keep you safe and David would be able to watch after you.” My mom said.
“But we didn’t know that Reborn Academy is just some sick way for Tatrous to find potential hampires for his bidding. Or that his wife was the headmistress.” David put in.
“You know about that?” Sasha ask.
They all nod their heads to her question. I took a breath to clear my head for a moment. I don’t know if I should flip out or stay calm. My dad know Tatrous in a personal way, he uses to be his mentor. I think about my mom being a hampire not human. How I’m way more than just a hampire. The way I instantly caught up with everyone in my class, the way I didn’t bruise up in the fight….
“Is that why I walk off just fine after that?” I ask looking to David.
“I think so.”
“But when fighting those vampires, they drew blood without blinking an eye,” I told them.
“Maybe it takes effort for humans and vampires to make a vampire even bleed, but another vampire can just flick you with a finger and make you fly into a wall.” My dad told me.
“Huh….this is a lot to take in,” I said leaning back on the couch.
“We knew it would be. You guys should get some rest anyway. Anglia you can show them to the guest rooms on the third floor right.” My grandmother ask.
“Yes.”
“We can talk more about this tomorrow, you go sleep this off,” Grandad told me.
“Ok, goodnight everyone,” I said getting up.
Daniel, Sasha, and Bambi followed suit saying good nights. I glance at my parents catching my mom’s eye. I look away from her leading them out the room over to the stairs. We were almost to the stairs when my mom called out my name. We all turn to look at her, she just stood there.
“Just wait up for me on the third floor,” I told them before walking over to my mom.
“I’m sorry Anglia. Everything I did was to protect you.” She said looking me in the face.
“Sure mom, you were able to stay in contact with my dad and come home fighting with me about letting him go. We didn’t have to go through that mom!” I told her.
“I know, maybe I was going overboard.”
“You was going overboard! How did you felt when your mom finally told you about being a hampire?” I ask her.
“Like she was keeping a part a life from me. Being a half vampire is a very useful knowledge to know about yourself.”
“That’s what I think, but I’m more than half. The only difference is that my mom didn’t tell me.” I told her before walking away up the stairs.
I didn’t bother looking back when I heard my father’s voice. Grandmother was right, I needed to sleep this off. Daniel and they were waiting for me on the third floor.
“Sasha and Bambi you’re going to have to share rooms again. We only have three-bed rooms on this floor.” I told them walking past them down the hall.
“Why can’t you and Daniel share a room this time?” Sasha complains.
“Because I snore,” I told her.
It was quiet for a minute before Bambi spoke up “That was a pretty good answer.”
I smile slightly stopping at the first door own the right. It was the biggest one of the bedrooms on the third floor. With a king size bed, couch, bathroom, kitchen, it’s almost an apartment.
“I’m giving you two my old room and it’s the biggest one on this floor. So, there should be no complaints.” I told them.
“Thanks, Anglia. Good night!” Bambi said before heading into the room.
“Yeah, thanks,” Sasha said before going in after her.
“That was considerate of you,” Daniel said as we continue down the hall.
“Yeah, and I’m sorry about my grandparents and my dad,” I told him.
“There good. I like them.”
“Yeah.”
“Don’t give your mom a hard time Anglia. I can tell that you’re upset with her.”
“Upset? Really? I just don’t see why she made the choices she made when it came to me.”
“We never get the reason are parents do certain things for us until later own. Don’t shut your mom out.” He told me as we stop in front of another bedroom.
I nod my head to the room “Here you go, good night Daniel.” I told him with a small smile.
He looks down at me stepping closer to me. I tilt my head up to look him in the face. A small smile came to his face before leaning down kissing me. I didn’t react as quickly as I should have before kissing him back. When he finally pulled back he pulls me to him kissing my forehead.
“Good night Anglia.” He said before heading into his room.
I stare at him, lost.
“He did not just kiss me?”
