Chapter 61
Chapter 61
The next day, Stella was woken up by the sound of her phone ringing.
She groggily reached for her phone and squinted at the screen, on
which Brian’s name was flashing
Reckoning he needed help. Stella put the call through. Her voice was soft and laced with sleep as she asked, “Hello?”
There was silence on the other line.
“Hello? What is it? Why aren’t you saying anything? Did you have the wrong number?” she pressed.
Stella was about to hang up when she heard Brian’s quiet reply. “I need to use the bathroom.”
So that was why he had called her, he needed to relieve himself.
Stella nodded in understanding. “Got it. I’ll be right there.”
With that, she sat up in bed and rubbed the sleep from her eyes. She then padded toward the master bedroom.
Brian heard Stella’s footsteps approaching and turned to look at her. She stood at the door in her pink nightgown, the fabric clinging to her curves as the morning light played over her silhouette.
She looked enticing, and Brian’s gaze couldn’t help darkening at the sight of her.
Stella drew close to the bed and asked, “You said you needed the bathroom?”
Brian hummed in response.
“Okay. Here, I’ll help you up,” Stella offered as she lifted the covers off him.
Brian’s dressing robe was open under the covers, revealing his well–built torso. Stella froze when she saw. it and quickly averted her gaze.
She could feel the tips of her ears grow hot.
Brian did not miss her reaction. Chuckling, he eased himself upright and let his weight fall on her.
Stella gritted her teeth. “Oh, crap. Why are you so heavy?”
“It’s your fault for being short” Brian retorted, glaring at her.
Stella scrunched her nose. Scoffing, she snapped indignantly, “I am not short. I’m five feet five inches tall.
I could be a model if I wanted. You’re just abominably tall!”
Brian chuckled again.
This bantering felt normal. It reminded him of the good old days when Stella used to poke fun at him or bat her eyelashes at him while asking for favors.
She was so lively and bright, with an endearing charm that made Brian want to reach out to ruffle her hair.
Stella led him into the bathroom.
When they stopped in front of the toilet, Stella blushed again. As his human crutch, she couldn’t very well
walk away from him and risk him falling.
Brian seemed unfazed as he reached down to untie his dressing robe.
Stella stared up at the ceiling and dared not say a word. She was waiting for him to relieve himself, praying he would hurry up.
It wasn’t until she heard the sound of something hitting the water that she let out a breath of relief.
Just a second longer, she told herself.
However, she made the mistake of looking down. Immediately, blood rushed to her cheeks.
She turned her head and found herself staring into Brian’s eyes. She did not miss the wicked amusement
in his gaze.
Stella’s heart skipped a beat as she averted her gaze. Unfortunately, she had no idea where to look.
Brian couldn’t resist smiling. “What, you have the nerve to peek at me but you won’t even look me in the eyes?” he teased.
“I did not peek!” she answered hotly. She fanned her face as if to cool herself. “Are you done? I want to go
back to sleep.”
“It’s almost nine,” he pointed out.
“What?” She sounded surprised. “It’s almost nine?”
“Yeah. Are you stupid with sleep?”
“Probably.” Stella had no idea the time had gone by so quickly. She helped Brian back to bed and asked, Are you hungry? Do you want breakfast?”
He hummed in response.
She was about to bring Brian food when her phone rang. She glanced at the screen to see that it was a
call from Yoel.
She put him through. “Good morning, Mr. Perkins.”
“Please, call me Yoel.” On the other line, Yoel looked indifferent as he sipped his coffee.
“All night,” Stella answered. She glanced over her shoulder at Brian. His eyes were closed.
She was reminded of what Sharon told her. Sharon wanted her to get along with Yoel so that she could
divorce and move on from Brian.
As such, Stella took Sharon’s advice to heart and said sweetly, “Yoel.”
At that moment, Brian’s eyes flew open to reveal his icy gaze.
