Chapter 23
**Elena**
Oh my gosh....
"He's so young. I wasn't expecting this." Aria says moving closer to Eli. "Pups tend to act older in their wolf form since they run more on instinct, but I wasn't expecting him to be this young." How can this be? He can't be more than six months old. I think.
"Elena, when did you give birth?" Aria asks and I know then that I can't hide the truth much longer.
"He isn't mine." As the words come out they feel wrong.
"What?" Sebastian's words come out more as a bark and I cringe away from him.
He swears. "I'm sorry baby, but what? What do you mean he isn't yours?"
I step back from them and drop on the couch. "I didn't give birth to him," I say.
Sebastian joins me while Aria wraps Eli in the blanket she bought him.
"I need you to explain this to me baby because I'm confused," Sebastian says softer like he's trying to calm me down.
"I found him." Is what I say, but I can't bring myself to say anything more.
What if he takes me back to the Omega School when I tell him everything? I stop Eli from them. It would put his reputation in danger if someone found out what I've done.
"You found him?" Aria asks. "When?"
"A couple of days ago. He was alone, and I think my instincts took over. So I kept him." I explain.
"Well, shit. But he smells like you and even looks like you." Aria says looking between us.
I shrug. I can't explain that.
"Have you heard anything about a missing pup?" She asks Sebastian.
"No, and if her wolf sensed he was alone then he is. She wouldn't steal a pup like that. Maybe they ran into rogues or hunters." Sebastian explains. "Hunters?" I ask.
When I look at him his face looks dark. "Humans who don't want to believe that shifters are actually humans. They kill wolves when they find them. We lost a few pack members a few years ago and had to change our security to be sure the humans don't wander onto our lands by mistake."
Oh wow...I had no idea that was happening. How could I? We didn't know anything that wasn't told us by our instructors.
"Well, even though he isn't yours, your wolf has adopted him. That makes him family. I'm just glad I didn't buy any clothes because I would have been far off. I thought maybe he was a year old, so this is a shock. We can keep him wrapped up until we find something. Oh my goddess, he is too cute in this form." Aria squishes Eli against her face and he makes a little sound of enjoyment.
She isn't wrong. He's adorable and a little chubby too. I think I adore him even more than I did before. His eyes lock on me and he whines. I reach out for him and Aria passes him over. As soon as I'm holding him his little fist grips onto my top and he hides his little face against my chest. His eyes flutter shut and then he's fast asleep.
"Shifting must have worn him out. We'll need to get a carrier for him so your arms don't get tired and a stroller. Actually, we are going to need a bunch of stuff. Seb, I hope you don't have a close relationship with that credit card because we'll be wearing it out today." Aria says with a laugh.
I shake my head. "No that's not necessary."
Even though I know what Sebastian said I give him a pleading look. He smiles at me like he finds my begging funny and I slouch in defeat. No matter how much I beg I don't think he'll listen.
"Fine, but he's small so he doesn't need too many things." I point out.
"Oh sweetie you are too cute. Let's move people!" Aria jumps to her feet and heads for the store.
"She's more excited to shop than I am," I grumble.
Sebastian chuckles. "She likes spending my money. Come on cutie let's get this little guy some stuff." He shakes his head. "He smells so much like you and something else familiar...I can't place it but..."
He trails off and sets his hand on my lower back as we walk out of the bathroom. I tug the blanket around Eli a little tighter when we join the crowd of people walking around. Being around this many people while he's...vulnerable like this has me on edge. In his wolf form, he can bite and fight back if he needs to but like this...he's too soft and helpless. I'm not the only one who feels this way because Sebastian has wrapped his arm around my shoulder and has me tucked close to his side. I even hear him growling a little at anyone who walks too close to us.
"Let's hurry. I want to get you guys home." He says and I nod in agreement.
I also can't help but smile at the way he calls his home mine too. It's silly since he has claimed me that I would live with him. Well, he hasn't officially claimed me but he's made his intentions clear.
Uhh...I'm confused by all of this. I expected when an Alpha picked me that I would be bitten and tied to him immediately. Maybe I assumed wrong. Still, I like how protective of me he is. It makes me feel...safe. Even though I don't know him well I sense that I can trust him and that he won't hurt me.
When we catch up to Aria and she gets one look at us she seems to know we can't stay here for long. She helps us grab a few things for Eli, and then we pick up a few essentials for me. Sebastian says that we can order everything else online. I'm not sure how but I trust them to know what to do. We rush back to the car with the few bags we have and the driver is ready to pull out as soon as we're buckled up. Sebastian mentions needing a car seat for Eli, and Aria is on her phone a second later. Apparently, you can order things on your phone. I feel like I know nothing about the world.
It's frustrating. I need to learn all of these things and quick. Maybe she will show me how her phone works.
"Oh, I got you something," Sebastian says pointing to one of the smaller bags.
Aria hands it to him and he pulls out a small box and holds it up so I can see it. I tilt my head and look it over before glancing at Aria's phone. They're similar but the one in front of me is purple. I never thought much about what my favorite color might be but I love this light purple a lot.
"You go this for me?" I ask him warily.
He nods and starts to open the box. "You'll need it to keep in touch with everyone. I will have to set it up but you'll be able to talk to Aria and me whenever you want. Well, Aria. I won't ever be far enough away from you for you to need to call or text me."
That confuses me a little, but I shrug it off.
"T-thank you. I love it." I give him a big smile feeling a little excited to learn everything about my new phone. "Can I look at the internet on it?"
He nods. "Yep, and you can shop for what you want on there as well. I'll set up the online pay so you can order anything you'd like."
I want to object and even open my mouth to do so but he gives me a look and I quickly retreat. Man, he's bossy. He takes the phone out of the box and begins messing with it. I watch his fingers move over the shiny screen and I can't help but gape at all the stuff he's able to do on it.
"Alpha." The driver gets Sebastian's attention.
Sebastian glances out the window and curses to himself. "I'm sorry. Give me one second to deal with this."
He throws open the door and climbs out of the car slamming the door a little hard. Eli jumps in my arms and starts to whine. I coo at him and sing a soft melody that has him quickly falling back to sleep.
"You have a nice voice," Aria says with a soft smile. "Thanks."
She looks out the window and sighs.
"Who are they?" I ask.
"Our neighboring pack. There have been some issues with another pack. We've joined forces with the Beachwear pack. Their Alpha likes to push his weight around. It's a bunch of bullshit. He likes to point out that Sebastian is young and unmated which he thinks makes him a weak Alpha. Well, at least you're here now." She smirks at me that churns my stomach.
Somehow my being here means something important and I suddenly want to run away again.
