When she returned to work at the office, everyone seemed to be looking at her differently. 

The issue with the exhibition had created a huge commotion. Even the staff members of the company had become suspicious of this renowned designer who had appeared out of nowhere. 

However, none of this had anything to do with Samantha. 

She arrived at the CEO’s office on the top floor. She noticed that Linda was dressed 

even more provocatively than usual. 

“Did you have a good trip, Ms. Meadows?” 

Linda looked coyly at her. She had on heavy makeup, and her pale skin peeked 

through the jacket she was wearing. She did look very charming. 

“If you have so much free time, Ms. Snider, why don’t you complete the work that 

Mr. Ford assigns you properly?” Samantha answered with a humorless smile. 

Then she shut the office door firmly. 

Linda flashed an evil smile the moment the door closed. 

In the office, Kendrick looked at Samantha. 

She was dressed in a simple, professional suit. Her hair had been tied up, exposing 

her white n*eck. The earrings she wore made her look clean–cut and sleek. 

She looked several years younger, like a female student. 

Kendrick smiled and tapped on the shiny table surface. 

“There’s going to be a ball tonight.” 

“I want to return to the design department,” Samantha spoke quickly, looking 

unusually fragile. 

The reason she looked fragile was because she hadn’t gotten much sleep last night. 

She had been packing up her and Nathan’s luggage.

Kendrick frowned as he looked at Linda, who had barged in. But out of respect for 

his mentor, he nodded. 

“That’s great. Then we can go together tonight.” 

Linda cheered, smiling in a childlike manner. 

“Of course, if my mentor gives you permission.” 

“Kenny, don’t ruin the mood. As long as you’re willing to go, Dad will definitely allow 

it!” 

Linda pouted. 

Her lively expressions put Kendrick in a slightly better mood. He disliked how Lindal behaved sometimes. Still, they had known each other for so many years that he 

couldn’t really hate her. 

Samantha gripped her pen viciously as she observed the obvious fondness in 

Kendrick’s eyes. 

If she really did want to stand beside Kendrick, she had to get rid of Linda first. 

“How has Ares Corporation been lately?” 

When Kendrick spoke, Samantha diverted all her attention on him. 

Linda noticed Samantha’s expression and smiled.

Kendrick sighed expressionlessly.

Linda had no choice but to ask for forgiveness in a low voice. 

Samantha refused to keep listening. She solely wanted to ruin Ford Corporation as soon as possible, and take back Duncan Group completely. It would shine again with its former glory. 

Linda noticed Samantha’s darkened eyes. 

She said scornfully, “What a pity. Even though Duncan Group was so big in the past, it’s nothing now. Yet, the orphan student that Mr. Duncan Senior sponsored is very successful. Perhaps Ms. Meadows should also work in Ares Corporation for a while?” 

Samantha did not answer. 

“Linda, I asked you to manage Ares Corporation. Still, it doesn’t mean that you can abuse your authority.” 

Kendrick looked stern and rebuked her. The hate in Samantha’s heart intensified as she listened to Linda whine at Kendrick. 

The ball that night was very boring. It was merely an excuse to expand their social circles while claiming that it was for some heiress‘ birthday. Even though Samantha was dressed in an extravagant gown, she still felt unenthusiastic.

She had learned to dance before but had forgotten all of it after she married

Kendrick wasn’t annoyed. He simply took Samantha’s hand and led her onto the 

dance floor. 

Samantha’s perfume wasn’t terrible, and it enveloped them both. Kendrick watched 

her eyelashes tremble whenever she blinked. 

For the first time, Kendrick had a tentative feeling. He had always attended these 

things with a partner who could dance. This time, he wanted to experience how it 

felt to teach someone how to dance. 

“I don’t know how to dance.” 

Samantha looked up slightly. looking rather nervous.
