No Escape From the Ex-husband by Summer Winters

Chapter 81

Chapter 0081

“I’ve said it, I just need the word from you.”

Kendrick adjusted his collar and continued with his work.

Samantha left without looking back. She might never understand what Kendrick

was saying. But now, she needed to test Conrad. She wondered if Mr. Hayes, as

mentioned by Robb, was indeed Conrad. The man who knew her past seemed like a ticking time bomb.

Through the floor–to–ceiling window, Kendrick watched Samantha’s BMW leave.

Jude had already placed a stack of documents on his desk.

“Samantha’s child didn’t survive back then, and Ms. Meadows‘ child was indeed

adopted from an orphanage. There are records.”

Jude neatly stacked several résumés in chronological order.

Kendrick couldn’t help but curl his l*ps into a smile. Sophia was indeed Sophia. It

might not be bad news.

Unaware that she had already earned his trust, Samantha arrived at the agreed–upon

place.

It was a moderately priced restaurant, but the lighting and atmosphere made it very

comfortable.

Conrad, dressed in an Italian suit, sat upright by the glass window. He looked eye-

catching indeed.

Samantha placed her bag down and smiled gracefully.

“Ladies first.”

Conrad handed over the menu.

Samantha casually selected a few items and returned the menu to the waiter.

“You’re different from Kendrick. You’re a true gentleman.”

Samantha’s smile became more enchanting. Her fair fingertips gently touched her check, allowing strands of hair to fall from her ear

“I can tell you’re quite popular too.”

Conrad’s gaze narrowed slightly, traveling from her cheek to her shoulder. This woman seemed to fit men’s beauty standards no matter how one looked at her.

I’m just popular among scumbags, Mr. Hayes. I wonder when we’ve met before.”

Samantha chuckled as the waiter placed the coffee in front of her.

The warm steam slightly blurred Samantha’s features even more, and Conrad’s smile deepened.

“We’ve never met, but I’ve been tracking you since five years ago.”

Conrad pulled out stacks of photos from his bag, finally dropping the smile on his

face.

“I’ve been looking for Kendrick’s weakness.”

Samantha looked at the pictures of herself. Five years ago, she was equally

endearing. But the gentle smile and the lonely expression from that time were attributes she no longer possessed. The lost elements felt like thorns stabbing into

her heart. Back then, she believed her entire life was for Kendrick.

And now, Conrad had revealed his position. It turned out Conrad’s opposition to

Kendrick was not a coincidence. Getting to know Samantha was not a coincidence

either.

“I don’t only want to ruin his company. I also want to make him taste the bitterness

of despair.”

Conrad lowered his voice, making his already deep tone even more terrifying.

“What do you mean?”

“Make him fall in love with you, then ruthlessly break his heart. Isn’t that delightful?

You must understand that feeling, I suppose.”

Conrad’s smile became even more sinister.

A gleeful smile finally appeared on Samantha’s face.

She chastised herself for not thinking about this before. During her three years of marriage, she had grown tired of the rumors and gossip from outside. She had to

repay him not only in terms of money but also emotionally.

“However, I don’t think I have that kind of charm,” she said.

“That’s precisely why we’re working together.”

Conrad raised his hand, placing it on Samantha’s shoulder. Gently pulling her closer, Conrad held onto a strand of her hair.

He whispered, “A woman fought over by men is even more charming, don’t you think?”

Samantha followed Conrad’s line of sight and saw a man in a cap in the opposite alley.

“Sounds about right,” Samantha agreed as she pulled Conrad’s tie.

With the same goal in mind, the man and woman displayed triumphant smiles on their faces. With the scene frozen in the camera frame, it radiated an ambiguous

vibe.

These photos were already sent to Kendrick’s email in the evening.

The man and woman in the photos appeared to be a perfect match. Conrad’s smug

expression was particularly distasteful to Kendrick.

Meanwhile, the lady in the photos had returned home. Following Conrad’s

instructions, she was now in contact with the Cassey couple. It seemed that they

were more knowledgeable about foreign medical teams.

While on the phone, there was a knock at the door. Nathan, holding his favorite pillow, poked his little head out.

“Mom, it’s raining outside. Can I sleep with you?”

Samantha paused, only now noticing the gentle sound of raindrops outside. She

patted the spot beside her.

“Of course, come in quickly.”

Nathan jumped into the bed and snuggled under the covers. He held Samantha’s hand and refused to let go.

Samantha finally stopped talking to the Cassey duo. She held Nathan in her arms as

they slept.

The rain grew heavier.

Due to the heavy rain, Samantha received a call from Helen at 5:00 am.

“Sophia! Something’s wrong! There’s been an accident with the indoor venue for the

SL series!”

Samantha woke up from her slumber. Nathan made a few sleepy sounds beside her

but continued to sleep.

“What happened?” Samantha asked in a hushed voice.

“The foundation wasn’t properly done, and two pillars have already collapsed,”

Helen responded in a trembling voice.
