NightTide: The Girl With Red Eyes

Chapter Why Does It Hurt?

When I awoke everything hurt and I let out a loud groan. Other than the pain I noticed the bandage wasn’t covering my eyes, it was still wrapped around my head but it was cut shorter. I tried looking around but everything was fuzzy at first; It all eventually became clearer, but I can’t say I was completely happy about being able to see, I felt more dread being able to see than not.

When it all cleared I could see everything around me. The walls were blue and there was a single painting on the wall across from me; I wouldn’t call it a painting really, it was just some words that read Protect us and we’ll protect you. It was kind of unnerving. The rest of the room was empty, it didn’t even have windows; just a single lamp by the bed I was laying on. It only lit up the area around me and the wall at the other end of the room; everything else was oddly pitch black.

When I looked at the lamp I heard a loud growl. I don’t know what it was but it scared me to the point of screaming. After I screamed, whatever it was howled back and jump out from the shadows. It grabbed me by the neck and lifted me. I screamed again and flailed around, I was so scared the pain I felt earlier was gone entirely. That’s when I heard a voice.

“HEEL BOY! HEEL!” I was almost too scared to notice her walking out from the shadows as well. “Sorry about that. He gets a little excited when he sees new people… Oh my, are you crying?! BAD BOY, PUT HER DOWN NOW!” She screamed at the beast without any form of hesitation. The thing set me down and put the blanket back over me before walking into the darkness. “I’m sorry.” She walked over to me and hugged me. I wasn’t expecting that. I’m not sure why but the urge to say something set in.

“Where am I?” She stared at me for a second like she was confused and then smiled.

“Well, aren’t you adorable. A NightTide that tries to understand things she can’t.” The way she said that made me angry. It was like I was being treated like something instead of a person. “Aw. Is she getting angry?” She pinched my cheek when she said that.

“Will you please stop.” I swatted her hand away but I didn’t expect her reaction.

“Did you just touch me?” She glared at me with that question and I sank into the bed and covered my head with the blanket. “That’s what I thought.” She grabbed the blanket and took it. “There, now don’t go hiding under those covers.” She said it so nonchalantly. “Aw you’re so small, the little NightTide. So cute I almost want to make you my pet.” The way she talked, I couldn’t decide whether I hated her or not. She was rude and mean, but the way she talked; it was so innocent and funny. I won’t say that I liked her by any means but I couldn’t hate her. “Wolf let’s go. Some guests are coming and we don’t want to be here when they do. Ta ta for now little NightTide.” She said that with a grin and a black shadow enveloped her body.
