Chapter Recovering...
I don't like having to lay in bed all day. It's been about six weeks since I got attacked, I apparently heal pretty quickly. The cut and stab wound I got have healed up but they said I should still be careful not to stress my heart and my bones still haven't healed. At-least I don't need to have all those machines hooked up to me anymore.
I herd the door to the room open, I turned my head to see who it was. Owen walked in pushing a chair "Hey Red, they said you can move around as long as you're in a wheel chair."
Wheel chair? Well it looked like a chair but it had wheels on it so I guess it made sense.
Owen had a grin on his face, he seemed really happy. "Right, Red why don't we get in this chair. The Pathfinder wants to see you." I wondered why the Pathfinder wanted to see me, I guess it doesn't really matter why, Owen helped me climb in the chair.
I won't say the chair was comfortable, it definitely wasn't but it also wasn't all that uncomfortable; I guess it was a meh kind of seat, I didn't like it or hate it. Then Owen started pushing the chair and scared me a little, I wasn't ready for but he just laughed and kept pushing the chair. The hallways were surprisingly busy that day.
We finally got to the Pathfinder he was standing in front of a group of people. They were being very noisy talking to him.
He looked over at us and seemed rather happy. "Ah well here she is now." Was he referring to me? We were next to the Pathfinder now and I still wasn't sure what was going on. "This is Red. She's the one you probably herd about. Now I'm sure you all have many questions but we should move to a room so we don't clog up the hallway." I'm still not sure what's going on
We all moved into a room and those people were staring at me; it made me really uncomfortable. The Pathfinder was waving for them to move to a line of seats on the other side of the room. Owen was staying very quiet, I looked at him and noticed he had a gone stone faced; he gave me a quick smile before going back to being stone faced.
The Pathfinder was standing behind a podium, he seemed proud. "Ahem. Hello everyone, I trust you all had a safe trip here? Well should I remind you all what the Black Band means?" The people in the crowd replied back no so I guess they knew, I didn't but I guess I'm not the one being asked. "Ah well that should speed things up a bit then. I'm sure all herd about what happened at the wall last month yes?" They all replied back with a yes. "Good, this girl here in the wheelchair, she's the one who stopped that creature from getting any further into our city." They all looked at me and started clapping, it felt nice.
The Pathfinder seemed to shine with confidence after that. "She is a Black Banded NightTide. At the moment she is also the only one. If it wasn't for her that creature may have gotten inside this city, from the reports it seems that no one else could see it except for her. At least until it she shot it and it started to bleed. According to Sargent Owen Lavouski and Corporal Kayla Reinner they could see it based on the patch of blood on its fur. Further damage to the creature resulted in it being easier to detect as it became further covered in its own blood. In any event we are unaware as of to why Red was able to see the creature but we are currently looking into it."
One of the people raised their hand and the Pathfinder pointed at them. "Um, sir may I ask? Why is Red currently in a wheel chair?"
The Pathfinder sighed and move to the side. "Well, we have footage of the incident, at-least some of the incident but you'll understand why after." He pulled out a remote and a screen lit up on the wall... it was the room up on the big wall, it seemed to cover most of the room; I guess they had cameras in there with us.
He fast forwarded it until we that wolf thing was in there. It ran up the stairs in the room and a few seconds later I saw myself falling down the stairs and rolling into the side of the building. Then Owen ran in there and smashed the thing into the other wall and started shooting it, the same as before. Kayla shot it and got knocked to the side, I shot and it bashed me through the wall and off the edge. Then camera angle changed, There was a camera on the wall it destroyed and it was recording. The camera was spinning around but I saw the thing knock the mask off of me, the camera spun and by the time it could see us again the things neck was spraying blood. Then it hit the ground and went to static. They were all silent.
The screen turned off and the Pathfinder stepped back behind the podium. "Now I hope that answered some of your questions. Lucky for Red she heals very quickly, its predicted she should be fully mobile in about another month or so. Now in light of these events I feel Red has earned something." The Pathfinder walked over to me and knelled down. "Due to suffering injuries in the line of duty you are being awarded a purple heart. Also in light of your bravery in the field you have been promoted to Private 1st Class; Congratulations Red." I noticed he didn't say a last name like he did with Owen or Kayla, though I guess I don't really have on. He pinned a purple heart to my shirt and handed me a new band that had a a star and arrow on the shield instead of being blank.
It was fairly noisy after that the people kept asking the Pathfinder questions and some of them asked me questions to... It was pleasant at least. Then they all left
After everyone had left the room Owen walked over to the Pathfinder, he didn't look happy. "You didn't mention that she was attacked afterwards."
The Pathfinder sighed and turned towards Owen. "Yes, I do not feel that the media should know that we might have a traitor in our midst, it is best to keep the public calm."
Owen nodded and walked over to me, I'm surprised he accepted that; he seemed frustrated before. He grabbed the handles on the chair and we went back to our room.
