NightTide: The Girl With Red Eyes

Chapter I Don't Want To Fight!

“What do you mean by activate. I’m not really sure how we’re moving right now let alone what activate means.” I asked him but I was more annoyed than curious. It seemed like they were telling me a lot but they were also leaving out a lot as well.

“You are angry, that is understandable but you will be told more things in time. I just need you to wait a little longer and to trust us.” the Pathfinder told me that right before the movement stopped and I almost fell over… again. “Ah, we're here. Now don’t worry, the rounds are non-lethal. They’ll sting a bit but not much more.”

Right when he said that the wall in front of us opened like a sliding door and he urged us to go inside. When we stepped inside I saw a lot of gray pillars and a series of old explosive marks in various places throughout the room. As I was looking around I felt someone yank on the back of my shirt and drag me behind one of the pillars.

“Hey! Don’t stand around like a deer in headlights. You don’t want to get hit in the head with a piece of rubber flying faster than sound right!” I looked around my shoulder to see the girl shouting that at me. As loud as she screamed it at me, she did seem genuinely worried about me. “Now get just stay behind me until we find you something to protect yourself with.”

The guy standing behind her rang in rather abruptly, but what he said did make sense. “Hey, now first we need to figure out where they’re going to coming from first.” “I don’t see anything so keep your eyes peeled.” Right after he said that there was a loud thud as something hit the other side of the pillar

We waited for a while before anything happened. The girl was trying to keep me awake since I was nodding off; I guess I don’t handle longs period of inactivity well. Though we did start to hear footsteps and I stopped falling asleep when I heard them. The sound didn’t seem to bother me; what did bother me was when they stopped. I didn’t like not knowing what was going on; this wasn’t helping either since now I didn’t know where the potential threat was.

“ATTENTION! ATTENTION! SIMULATION ACTIVE” That’s what a thundering voice said. I to this day don’t know where it comes from but it made my whole-body shake; I really didn’t like that.

“Alright I guess everything’s ready. Our weapons should be showing up soon to.” Right after the girl said that I got hit in the head with something big; IT REALLY HURT. “Hey are you ok!? Why would they drop that on your head?” The girl grabbed that object and sat it to the side; then she helped me up and started patting the part of my head it landed on. “Come On now don’t black out.” She kept doing that for a minute and then stopped all together. “Now let’s see what they gave you… REALLY THEY DROPPED A SIG 50 ON YOU!” At the time, I didn’t know what a SIG 50 was but when I saw it… well for some reason I really liked it; despite what happen.

The guy motioned for her to stop shouting and he peaked around the pillar. She handed me the gun and it was heavy; it wasn’t impossible for me to carry but I won’t say it was easy either. I could hear the two bickering quietly over something but I wasn’t paying much attention. That’s when I heard the ground get peppered with something; I didn’t know where it came from or what it was but it sounded small and they always left a dinging noise when they hit.

Every Time I heard the ding I flinched badly. I saw the other two flinching on each ding to. That’s when the guy ran quickly to the right and girl grabbed my collar and jerked me along with her in the other direction. When we were running I heard the noise trailing right behind us I looked around while we ran and saw several skeletons like things shooting guns at us. Right when I saw them I was hit in my forehead and got flung hard enough to be ripped from the girl’s grasp. I was trying to recover from the hit and I saw her still running with the bullets trailing behind her. I suppose this would have been the first time I felt anger, that had really hurt and my immediate reaction was to grab the rifle and fire back at those things. I wasn’t even aiming but I managed to hit one of them and knocked it to the ground; it proceeded to get right back up, then they all started shooting back at me; I managed to force myself up and started running to the nearest pillar. Right before I got behind it I got hit in my Achilles tendon; the pain was excruciating. I just curled up there and held my ankle; I watched as it went from a pulsing red to purple then slowly turned blue and then back to peach. A few minutes after it returned to its normal color the pain left. I didn’t know what was going on with the other two but the bullets stopped bouncing around my cover.

This was when I realized something; If I could just endure the pain I could walk up to those things and keep shooting, it wasn’t the best plan but I couldn’t think of anything else to do. After standing up and trying to build up my nerve something felt different, I didn’t know what it was at the time but I felt heavier, not in the sense that I was tired but in the sense of feeling very sturdy. So, after that feeling came in the got the confidence to run out, and so that’s what I did. I jumped from out of the cover and ran toward those things. During this I aimed at those things and kept shooting; though this time I aimed down the sights. I just kept shooting and moving forward, I hit them four or five times before they focused on me.

This is when I saw all of them, I initially saw three but there was five. They all started shooting back at me, it felt like everything was burning once they started. I wasn’t flinching but it felt like fire was erupting out every time I got hit. The only part about this that scared was how I felt; I couldn’t help it but I felt a massive grin on my face and my eyes were wide. As I kept moving forward I kept getting hit with more and more shot as they were getting at their aim with the shortening distance. That when I started laughing; of all the things, I could have done during this I started laughing hysterically. That’s also when the pain relieved a little bit; I noticed two of them changed where they were aiming. They both started shooting in opposite directions; I would assume they were shooting at the other two people.

Finally, I had gotten close enough to see what they were; while at first, I thought they were skeletons they were some form of machine, it wasn’t armored it was just interlocking joints that looked like a human without their flesh, I later found out there called an endoskeleton. Up until this point it didn’t occur to me how the gun just kept shooting, it didn’t seem to run out of bullets. While that wasn’t my main concern it was certainly an issue.

Every time I hit the machines they stopped for a second and just kept shooting; it was like my weapon wasn’t even capable of hurting them. This made me angry again, the more shot and it did nothing the angrier I got. Eventually I got right up on them; at this point I was furious from the pain they put me through and I just grabbed one of their guns by barrel and ripped from their grasp; In a moment of pure fury I put everything I had and hit the machine in the side with its own gun, I dented it good bit and just kept hitting until it collapsed. By the time the first machine was down the gun was bent in half and I felt slightly relieved; I saw two more of them drop and I chucked the gun at one of the other two. I stunned it long enough for me to run up and put my barrel right up to it head and shoot, it did a lot more than I thought it would, sending the things head flying into the distance. I turned to my left to see that the guy had it pinned to the ground and the girl shot it in the head. It was only a few seconds after the final machine fell when I started to dry heave; I fell and all the pain started sinking in as I passed out.
