Chapter 1129 Thanking Finn
Zach's gleeful look annoyed Julien, and he snorted, "If you come disturbing me unannounced again, no amount of pleading will help."
In other words, he would let it go this time.
If there was a next time, he would send Zach abroad.
Zach was overjoyed. "Yeah, sure. It won't happen..."
He suddenly stopped halfway through his speech as he realized something.
'What did he just say? Disturbing him?
'What was he referring to?'
It was getting late, and Mr. Flint was looking at him with resentment.
Zach immediately realized what was going on.
What else would two lovers do in the middle of the night?
In other words, Mr. Flint was not angry because he had lost the game. He was frustrated by Zach's interruption, and in his anger, threatened that he would send Zach abroad. That explained the situation.
Zach forced a smile for he had come at the wrong time.
If he had known this, he wouldn't have come over.
He sighed to himself.
"Tell me, what brings you here at such a late hour? Why didn't you call first?" Julien asked coldly.
Zach scratched his head. "I wanted to call you, but I accidentally broke my phone on my way here. That's why I had to come to see you in person."
He took out his broken phone from his pocket.
Julien saw it and pursed his lips. "Alright, just tell me what you want to say."
Since Zach was in such a hurry, it would be something important.
"There is something important, but..." Zach hesitated, looking at Sydney.
Sydney raised her eyebrows, understanding what he meant. She smiled and said, "You guys go ahead and talk. I'm going to make a call."
She quickly got up and went back to the living room.
She wasn't upset that Zach didn't want her to listen to their conversation.
It wasn't a big deal.
And even if she and Julien were together, it didn't mean she had access to everything.
After all, they were not part of the same company.
If Zach and Julien were to discuss confidential company matters, she shouldn't be there to listen.
They weren't married yet, so even if Julien didn't mind, she wouldn't feel comfortable doing that.
She felt more relaxed by walking away.
After Sydney left, Zach looked at Julien. "Ms. Raines isn't upset, is she?"
He purposely avoided talking about this matter in front of Sydney because he didn't want her to hear it.
At the same time, he was worried that she would be upset about it.
It didn't affect him much, but he didn't want her to be angry with Mr. Flint.
When Mr. Flint was upset, his employees would have a hard time.
Julien turned to look at where Sydney had left before lightly shaking his head. "No. Leaf is not that kind of narrow-minded person. She respects other people's privacy and secrets, and won't overthink it. Just tell me what's going on."
"Well, in the afternoon, Dallin..."
They got down to business.
In the living room, Sydney took out her phone and dialed a number.
The line soon went through, and the cool, tired voice of a man came over. "You called me at such a late hour. Aren't you afraid that Julien would be upset?"
To the teasing, Sydney awkwardly rubbed her nose. "He is discussing work with his assistant, and he knows I'm making a call."
He just didn't know who she was calling.
"Did I interrupt anything?" Sydney asked. "You sound tired. Are you still working?"
In a green surgical gown, Finn walked into his office, closed the door behind him, and headed straight for his desk. He pulled out the chair and sat down, taking off his glasses and rubbing his temples before replying, "Not really. You called at the right time. If it had been earlier, I wouldn't have been able to pick up because I was operating. I'm off duty now and will go home soon."
"That's good to know." Sydney picked up the glass from the coffee table and took a sip of water.
Finn put his glasses back on. "So, what's the deal?"
"Well, I just want to thank you," Sydney replied with a smile, putting the glass back.
Finn's glasses reflected a glint of curiosity. "Thank me?"
"Yes." Sydney nodded. "I only found out this afternoon. When I went down, I received a call from the police station and went there. I happened to see Greta suffering. I asked Officer Miles if they had taken Greta to the hospital. He told me that they did, but Dr. James said that Greta's condition could be relieved with medication and there was no need for hospitalization. I guessed it was you, and since Greta indeed needed treatment, you intentionally said that to take it out for me, right?"
Finn's eyes flickered with a smile, but it soon faded away. Regaining his reservedness, he replied, "You're right. I did it on purpose. When the police brought that woman to the hospital, I happened to see it." "I knew it." Sydney smiled. "Thank you."
"It's alright, and you didn't have to call just to thank me." Finn took a brief rest, put her on speakerphone, and placed his phone on his desk. Then he stood up and walked over to the clothes rack, taking off his coat.
Sydney heard him changing clothes and knew that he was ready to get off work. She quickly said, "Of course, I have to thank you for taking it out for me. But it's late now, and I shouldn't keep you on the phone for too long, or else it will delay your time to go home and rest. How about having dinner with me another day? You've helped me so many times, and I've never properly thanked you."
She lowered her head, chuckling apologetically.
Finn stuffed the green surgical gown into the disinfection cabinet before grabbing his phone from the desk and walking towards the office door. "I don't usually care about other people's gratitude, but if you insist, it's fine. Let's skip the meal, though. If you dine with me, you will end up losing your appetite. I don't like ordinary dishes, and you may not like my favorites. Do you know what I like to eat?" Sydney shook her head. "How would I know?"
Finn pressed the elevator button. "The things I love to eat are not cooked with ordinary seasonings, but with edible chemical agents. So, even if you want to treat me to dinner, you won't find a suitable restaurant."
'Food cooked with edible chemical agents?'
Just the thought of it made her shudder.
It was weird.
