Chapter 8
Chapter 8
Benjamin tried to pull Nora into his arms.
“Nora, you’re the best. Tell Daddy, which hospital is Mommy in?”
Nora, who had just calmed down in Sloane’s arms, started shaking and screaming when Benjamin reached out.
“Don’t come near me! Auntie will hit me!”
She looked at Sylvia and Ellie, who were running over, and trembled even more.
Nora clutched her head, trying to bury herself deeper into Sloane’s embrace.

“I’m sorry, Auntie, I’m sorry. Don’t hit me!”
Nora was still young, and when scared, she could only repeatedly apologize.
Nora’s crying weighed heavily on my heart, but there was nothing I could do.
Sloane looked at the group standing together, scooped Nora into her arms, and limped home.
Benjamin reacted, his face pale, instructing Sylvia to take Ellie home first.
At this point, he wanted to settle the mother and daughter before addressing anything else.
Benjamin followed behind Sloane, moving
slowly.

Sloane, with her bad legs, walked very slowly.
So she could only listen to Benjamin’s rambling.
“I know you’re all lying to me, trying to teach me a lesson.”
‘But Mirabelle is my wife! I’m definitely worried about her!”
“She’s so sick and needs someone to take care of her. You’re leaving her alone in the hospitall. If something happens, who will she turn to?”
Now he realized I was his wife? But it was too
late!
Sloane finally couldn’t take Benjamin’s voice anymore. She shoved the cremation certificate into his hands. Letters written in black and

white, and stamped in red, making everything
clear.
“Enough! Look for yourself!”
Benjamin’s hands began to tremble.
The small booklet felt as heavy as a thousand pounds.
He had considered many possibilities; he even suspected I might be trying to force him to take Sylvia’s heart.
But he never imagined I was truly dead!
Now, holding the cremation certificate, he couldn’t bear to look at it.
Yet, no amount of denial could change the fact

that I was gone. He stumbled back, muttering to himself.
“How could this happen? How could she be dead?”
“Fake, it’s all fake!”
Sloane watched his meltdown with cold eyes. Benjamin now resembled a mindless beast. He grabbed Sloane’s hand, eyes bloodshot.
“Mirabelle can’t be dead! I don’t believe it!”
“I’m her husband! Why am I the last to know?”
I scoffed. How ironic! Only then did he remember he’s my husband.
What about all the things he’d did before?

Didn’t he think I was already his wife, which gave him the right to court his beloved Sylvia?
Now that things were out of his control, he was starting to panic.
Benjamin choked up, “It’s all fake, right? Dr. Hartwell said she wasn’t in danger! Is Mirabelle playing a trick on me to scare me? Tell her I’m sorry, ask her to come back and stop scaring me!”
Sloane’s expression remained unchanged.
“Do you think telling me will help? Mirabelle can’t hear you anymore.”
“Do you know how much she suffered in that hospital room? You think shedding a few tears

will make everything go away?”
“Benjamin Lennox, whether you truly regret it or just feel guilty, only you know.”
“Mirabelle was so gravely ill! That heart was her last chance, and you gave it away so easily!”
“Do you know when Mirabelle closed her eyes? While you were celebrating Sylvia’s discharge!”
