Mr. Powell Is Hunting for His Wife

Chapter 24: What Happened Last Night?

Diana knew clearly that Brooklyn was referring to the lie she had just told him on the phone.

But looking at Brooklyn who was smiling and hearing his laughing voice, she thought for a moment that Brooklyn had figured out her true identity.

Her legs trembled slightly.

Luckily, she encountered many big occasions and she quickly regained her composure. She threw her bag onto the sofa and sat properly opposite Brooklyn.

She smiled and said in a gentle voice, "Mr. Powell, you're right. Let's get back to the point. The purpose you asked me to come to the office so late was not just to test whether I would lie to you, right?" Diana had regained her composure and she blinked her brooding eyes twice at Brooklyn.

"I guess the reason that you are calling me to the office is to discuss something related to Mr. and Mrs. Hill, right? Perhaps Mr. Powell has already set a time for a social gathering with Mr. and Mrs. Hill?" Brooklyn turned serious when he heard Diana's words.

He sized up Diana who looked frivolous in front of him with his inscrutable eyes.

"You're very clever." After a long silence, Brooklyn said, "But sometimes, being too clever is not a good thing. A wise man can be ruined by his own wisdom."

Diana was scared when he heard Brooklyn's warning tone.

Brooklyn glanced at her and picked up his coffee with his hand before taking a sip to moisten his throat.

"Mr. and Mrs. Hill will have a private meeting with me next Saturday. You will attend the meeting with me as my assistant and also my female companion."

"Wait, Mr. Powell." Diana realized something was wrong and asked him, "Female companion? Aren't you bringing your fiancée?"

Although she wanted to break up Brooklyn and Mirabelle, she wasn't stupid either. Everyone knew that Brooklyn and Mirabelle were a couple. She thought that he was trying to make her in trouble. Diana stared at Brooklyn earnestly with her dark eyes, "Mr. Powell, just tell me openly. As your subordinate, I don't dare to comment on your relationship with Ms. Moss. But I cannot agree to your request for me to attend the meeting with you as your female companion. I am your subordinate, your personal assistant, and the perfumer of Powell Group. Only these are the appropriate identities for me."

Diana's voice was loud and clear.

After finishing her words, she quietly waited for Brooklyn's reply.

Her heart pounded very fast, and she could clearly feel that she was very nervous at the moment.

She would need to confront Mirabelle sooner or later. But now that she was in Sliwell, Rachel and the Smith family could not help her on the spot if she met any trouble. She could only face the trouble alone. If she really accompanied Brooklyn to attend the dinner as his female companion, she would stir up a conflict between her and Mirabelle.

"Ms. Miller, do you know what your words represent?"

After a long time, Brooklyn gazed at Diana who looked nervous with his inscrutable eyes and said something in a voice that she couldn't determine her feelings.

Diana straightened her back, "Mr. Powell, I know. I will stand by my point and I hope you can understand."

Leaning back on the sofa cozily, Brooklyn rested one of his hands on the arm of the sofa and frowned, "Give me a reason."

"My professionalism tells me to prioritize my identity as a perfumer over my identity as a woman no matter in what occasions. My profession is more important than my gender."

Diana displayed an attractive look.

After finishing her words, she looked at Brooklyn calmly.

She guessed that Brooklyn would definitely accept her request.

"Okay, you win." Brooklyn shook his head and laughed out in a low tone.

He had never met such a woman as Anna before.

He left a thick pile of papers on the table, "These are the preferences of Mr. and Mrs. Hill. You can read them here overnight or take them home. Of course, you can freely use the studio in Powell Group to create perfumes from now on. Here is the door card."

As Brooklyn finished his words, he put a thin black card on the table.

"This door card is mine and you can use it to go anywhere you want."

Diana was stunned for a moment and picked up the thin card, "Mr. Powell, are you sure? If I'm a commercial spy sent by another company, all of the internal confidential information of Powell Group could be stolen by me."

Did he trust her so much?

Brooklyn had already gotten up and walked to his desk.

When Brooklyn heard her question, he raised his eyes and looked calm, "Are you a commercial spy sent by another company?"

Diana was stunned for a moment before saying, "No."

Brooklyn did not continue to speak. He looked back to the computer screen with his cold and stern eyes.

After a while, he raised his head again and glanced at Diana who had returned to her seat with the documents in her arms.

Diana had already started to research the preferences of Mr. and Mrs. Hill.

She thought that Powell Group was very powerful as the information collected was even more complete than what Rachel had collected.

"Can you make a perfume that Mr. and Mrs. Hill will like within a week?"

Brooklyn asked coldly.

Diana was so immersed in her work that she did not even raise her head, "Mr. Powell, don't worry. If I don't make a perfume that satisfies Mr. and Mrs. Hill, I'll work for you forever and rest with you during the afternoon until I retire."

Brooklyn's lips twitched slightly, "You do not have to say such vicious words."

Brooklyn had been used to working without rest for several nights in a row.

He had finished approving the latest quarterly plan of Powell group. Then, he massaged his forehead before saying, "Harper, make a cup of coffee for me."

He didn't finish his words when he remembered that Diana was also in the office.

He tiredly raised his eyes subconsciously and glanced in the direction of Diana.

Diana had closed her eyes and slept, resting his head and arms on the table.

Thinking of her courageous and vicious words last night, Brooklyn shook his head helplessly.

Harper pushed open the office door and was surprised to see Diana already asleep.

Didn't Ms. Miler go back yesterday?

"Mr. Powell, your coffee is here." Harper put the coffee on Brooklyn's desk.

"You go to Anna's house and send her two children to school. I mean, her relatives' children." Brooklyn took a sip of his coffee and seemed to remember something as he instructed Harper. Harper was stunned for two seconds as he wondered how Mr. Powell even knew that Anna already had children.

And he even said they were her relatives' children.

What exactly happened last night...

Harper pondered for a moment.

"Did you hear that?" Brooklyn glanced at his assistant who looked stunned and couldn't help but coldly speak to remind him.

"Yes!"

After Harper left, Brooklyn got up and walked to Diana's side.

After staying up all night, Diana who had a fair white face looked a bit pale.

Brooklyn pursed his lips for a moment before quietly lowering his head and kissing Diana's forehead.

After a while, he got up and carried Diana who was sleeping in his arms before heading to the private room in his office.

Harper knocked gently on the door of Diana's apartment.

A few minutes later, he heard a cold and youthful voice. "Who are you?”¶¶¶¶¶¶¶¶¶¶¶
