Mr. Powell Is Hunting for His Wife

Chapter 23: People Who Lie to Me Will End Up Miserable

Brooklyn let out a laugh in a low voice.

Anna was such an interesting woman.

He had sent Harper to investigate Anna's background. Although her background had been hidden by someone, he knew that she earned a lot of money and owned properties and villas overseas. Many rich families had asked her to make perfumes.

Was she short of money? Not at all.

But he didn't expect her to be a money-grubber. When he first called her to come to the company to work overtime, the first thing she asked was whether she could get overtime pay.

Brooklyn said with his thin lips, "I'll give you five times the overtime pay."

"No problem Mr. Powell! I will come now! One hour from now on right? Don't worry. I'll be there on time."

After finishing her words, Diana immediately hung up the call and ran towards the bathroom to do her skincare and makeup.

She would never give up any single cent she could get.

The annual salary offered to Diana by Powell Group was extremely high and she was very satisfied with that. She could get five times the overtime pay by only losing her time for beauty sleep. Brooklyn sat in the bright office. He looked at the mobile phone and his sexy lips slightly twitched.

After a while, he slowly sent a WeChat message to Diana.

"Drive safely."

After pressing the button to send the message to Diana using his long fingers, he put his phone aside.

Harper came in at this time carrying a cup of freshly ground coffee, "Mr. Powell, this is the ground coffee that you have requested."

Brooklyn nodded his head, "Put it on the table."

After a while, he slowly raised his head. He remembered that just now Diana had said on the phone that it would take an hour and a half to drive from her home to the office.

Brooklyn frowned and he thought that he shouldn't have asked her to come here within an hour.

He didn't know how good her driving skills were. What if something happened on the road...

Brooklyn's handsome face displayed a gloomy look, "How far is Ms. Miller's apartment from the office?"

Harper was slightly stunned.

What kind of question was Mr. Powell asking?

He had never known that Mr. Powell cared about the personal life of his subordinates after all the years he had spent with him.

Harper complained about Harper inwardly, but he still said obediently, "Mr. Powell, Ms. Miller's apartment isn't too far from the company. It only needs a forty-minute drive." "Good," Brooklyn said coldly.

He cared about Diana so much just now.

It turned out that she had been lying to him from the very beginning.

At the same time, Diana was still at her apartment.

She looked at herself in the mirror. She had red lips and a fair tiny face. She also had thick eyelashes and a thin layer of blush.

She looked so good as she had just put on a mask that she didn't even need to do her make-up.

Her hair was a little wet as she just had her shower. She knew it was too late to dry it now, so she had to hastily tie her hair into a bun.

She went back to her room and changed into a black and white striped office attire. Then, she grabbed her bag and gently pushed open the door to the room next to her bedroom.

Austin hadn't slept yet. He closed his laptop and raised his little face to ask Diana calmly, "Mummy, is daddy calling you to the office?"

Diana was stunned for a moment and she said, "Don't eavesdrop on my phone call next time."

Austin shrugged his shoulders, "I'm not trying to eavesdrop on your phone call, mummy. I'm eavesdropping on daddy's phone call so he doesn't do something which will make you sad." Diana's lips twitched slightly.

She had no relationship with Brooklyn, nor did she want to have a relationship with him in the future.

However, it seemed like Austin and Emily wanted to encourage her to get back together with their daddy.

"Okay, mummy, you can go now. Don't worry. I won't tell Emily. I'm getting ready for bed too. I have classes tomorrow. Goodnight, mummy."

After finishing his words, Austin turned off the desk lamp and obediently went to bed.

Diana gently closed the door to her room.

Sometimes she felt a bit worried when Austin was too smart.

The purpose she went back to Sliwell was to break up Brooklyn and Mirabelle.

Therefore, she had deliberately purchased a high-end apartment near the Powell Group.

She only needed a thirty-minute drive to reach the office from her apartment.

After she finished parking her car and reached the office, it was only half past twelve, half an hour before the time in which Brooklyn asked her to reach.

Diana heaved a sigh of relief and went to the conference room, but she didn't see Brooklyn and anyone else.

When Harper saw the light on in the conference room, he thought someone had forgotten to turn it off just now. When he came over to take a look, he felt surprised to see Ms. Miller.

He was very surprised, "Ms. Miller, why are you here at this time?"

Harper was speechless.

He realized that Brooklyn had called her here.

"Mr. Powell is in his office. You can go to his office and ask him.

Wearing her high heels, Diana grabbed her bag and pushed open the door of the office. Then, she saw Brooklyn who told her to rush to the company was now cozily leaning on the sofa. He was holding a report in his hand.

Seeing her pushing the door in, Brooklyn raised his eyebrows slightly. He looked at Diana for a second and then saw Harper who stood behind her.

"Ms. Miller, come in," Brooklyn said indifferently.

Harper instantly understood that he was the third wheel.

Harper knew what Brooklyn was thinking and said, "Mr. Powell, then I'll go and finish my work first."

After saying that, he closed the door and left quickly.

Diana glanced suspiciously at Brooklyn who leaned lazily on the sofa.

He had taken off his suit, and two buttons on his shirt were undone. He displayed his attractive skin which was somewhat eye-catching under the white light.

Diana had seen many handsome men when she was overseas, including stars and male models.

But no man could make her so nervous. Her heart pounded extremely fast at the moment.

She did not move but swallow her saliva.

She knew that she could also show her beautifulness when Brooklyn did something like that.

"Mr. Powell, you called me here when it's so late. I thought you said we are having a meeting?"

She gently glanced at Brooklyn who looked so attractive. Her voice was gentle and coquettish as she added, "So we are having a meeting in your office, right? Then can I still get the five times overtime pay." Brooklyn raised his eyes lazily and glanced at Diana.

He could notice that Diana came here in a hurry although the makeup on her face was flawless.

But he could guess that she had just finished taking a shower looking at her slightly damp hair and smelling the faint scent on her body.

Brooklyn smiled meaningfully.

He said something which would make Diana angry, "I will only pay you three times overtime pay."

"Mr. Powell, you did not keep your promise!" Diana argued, "I reached the company within the time you requested!"

Brooklyn nodded slightly. His arms were crossed and propped lazily on his knees.

"Yes, you were punctual. But you lied to me on the phone."

Diana was stunned.

Brooklyn narrowed his black eyes slightly and he carefully sized up Diana who was trying to keep calm in front of him. Then, he said seriously while smiling, "People who lie to me usually ended up miserable. There is no exception, including you."☐☐☐☐☐☐☐☐☐☐☐☐
