Chapter 66

Chapter 66
After work, as expected, it was pouring rain outside.
Thunder exploded in the sky, and just listening to it made people feel uneasy.
Giselle and some coworkers stepped out of the elevator, only to find a crowd of people hesitating by the building entrance, unsure whether to wait for the rain to subside before heading to the subway station.
At that moment, Mickey was also heading home. His car emerged from the underground parking lot and pulled up in front. of the office building. Looking at his colleagues, he offered, “A few of you can hop in. I’ll give you a ride.”
Although everyone was thrilled, no one knew who should get in the car.
Especially since… their eyes all fell on Giselle simultaneously.
However, Giselle had no intention of stepping forward. Her hair fluttered gently in the breeze, her porcelain–like skin shining and radiant.
Her face looked calm and exquisite.
She spoke softly. “You all should get in the car and head home early.”
“Aren’t you coming, Giselle?”
“Giselle, don’t worry about it. We all know what kind of person you are. There’s no way you’d…”
“Let’s just get to the subway station and see. Who knows when this rain will let up?”
Giselle shook her head with a smile. “No need. My husband will be here soon.”
She spoke so softly that Mickey didn’t hear her clearly.
Seeing Giselle standing still, a few others got into Mickey’s car. Mickey clenched the steering wheel, feeling a mix of emotions, and asked, “She’s not getting in?”
“Giselle isn’t coming. Her husband will be here to pick her up soon!”
“Yeah, Giselle’s so lucky to have her husband picking her up!”
“Not like us, all lonely and pitiful…”
Mickey’s mood turned bad, and he drove off without another word.
Giselle didn’t know what she was missing!
As Mickey drove away he saw a sleek black SUV pull up at the entrance of the building.
The previously aloof Giselle suddenly smiled, instantly becoming the most stunning sight in the rainy evening.
A tall, muscular man stepped out of the car, quickly took off his suit jacket, and draped it over Giselle.
Giselle looked up at him with a sweet, soft smile and quickly got into the car under his protection.
Hymes…
Mickey clenched his teeth in frustration.
The only thing giving him a sense of pride at that moment was the fact that his car was more expensive than Hymes.
After Giselle settled into the passenger seat, she turned to the coworkers still waiting and said, “You guys should get in too. We’ll drop you off at the subway station.”
At this point, they didn’t care about the details and were grateful for the ride, quickly getting into the car.
One of the women said. “Sorry for the trouble and for making you give us a ride.
Hymes‘ suit was soaked, so he was only wearing a black shirt…
With one button undone and the sleeves rolled up to his elbows, his chiseled face exuded a dominating and rigid aura that filled the car’s cramped space.
Giselle’s coworkers marveled at the presence of such a testosterone–fueled man.
Some were intimidated by his presence.
However, when he spoke, his tone was gentle. “It’s fine. You’re all Gigi’s coworkers.”
Giselle smiled and nodded. “Yeah, if you went to the subway station now, you’d get soaked and catch a cold.”
The three colleagues in the back seat thanked them, with one touching the seat beneath them and remarking, “Giselle, the interior of your car is pretty nice, and this leather seat is quite comfortable!”
Some cars might not look very different from the outside, but once you opened them, you could clearly feel the difference.
The space inside this car was surprisingly accommodating, as the three of them did not feel cramped in the back seat. Moreover, the comfort level of the seats greatly surpassed the ones they usually took through ride–hailing apps.
So, the colleagues immediately asked curiously, “Giselle, how much did you and your husband pay for this car?”
Giselle wasn’t sure, so she turned to Hymes and asked, “How much did you pay?”
Hymes recalled what Leo had said.
“About 60,000 dollars.”
“Nice! This is a great car for 60,000 dollars! My dad checked out this car too, but the one he saw was not as good as this one. The interior was worse, and it wasn’t as comfortable. What’s the model?”
Hymes remembered Leo’s report and answered the colleague’s question. The colleague nodded, quickly sent a message to their family, and offered a recommendation.
Giselle also knew the brand of Hymes‘ car. It was a well–known automobile brand.
Not too flashy, reasonably priced, but with consistently had good reviews.
So Giselle thought Hymes made a good choice with this car, especially considering the comfort level once seated, which exceeded many other ears she had experienced.
It was even more comfortable than some low–end luxury sedans in people’s minds.
Giselle complimented Hymes, “You have good taste. This car is a great choice.”
Hymes‘ lips curled slightly, and though he didn’t speak, his mood was clearly good.
The company wasn’t far from the subway station, but due to the heavy rain that day, traffic was a bit congested. It took almost ten minutes to get close to the subway station entrance.
Suddenly, the colleague in the back seat exclaimed, “No way, Giselle, my dad said… with this car’s configuration and everything, he estimated it would cost at least 100,000 dollars!”
Giselle asked, “Huh?”
“It’s true. My dad has been car shopping recently and knows a lot about it. I just sent him a picture… He said he’d looked into this model and configuration too, but he thought it was too expensive, so he didn’t buy it.”
Hymes was speechless.
Hymes thought that he should deduct Leo’s salary for this.
What happened to the 60,000–dollar car they agreed on?
Leo, however, felt wronged.
He knew that Hymes was used to riding in luxury cars worth millions and had high demands.
So he had to choose a car brand that was not considered expensive in the public’s eyes.
But he deliberately purchased the highest configuration possible to ensure maximum comfort, so Hymes wouldn’t get angry and find fault with him later.
Giselle looked at Hymes with confusion. “So how much did this car cost?”
Hymes said decisively. “Just over 60,000 dollars… I have a friend who sells cars, and this one was a display model, so it was cheaper. The original price would indeed be about the same.”
Upon hearing this, Giselle was incredibly excited. “So you really hit the jackpot, huh!”
Hymes nodded calmly. “Yeah.”
Giselle’s coworkers couldn’t help but express their envy, wishing they could have such good luck themselves.
Soon, the car stopped at the subway station, finally dropping off Giselle’s colleagues.
Hymes, who always kept his cool even when dealing with the most difficult partners, couldn’t help but let out a subconscious. sigh of relief at that moment.
