Chapter 21
Chapter 21
Giselle knew Jenny wasn’t really inviting her. She was only being polite. Giselle refused directly, “No, thanks. My husband and I already have plans for
tonight.”
“That’s too bad. You’ll miss a great meal.”
Giselle ignored her and went to her desk.
After working for a while, Giselle’s phone rang. It was from Marie, Giselle’s mother. Giselle got up and went to a quiet spot to answer it.
“What’s the matter, Moni?”
“Tell me, Giselle. Are you seeing someone, aren’t you? That’s why you won’t come home or have blind dates.”
“What are you talking about?”
Marie continued complaining on the other side of the phone, “Why didn’t you tell me you have a boyfriend over there?”
“I don’t know what you are talking about. I didn’t…”
“Oh, please. I know your boyfriend works in the same company as you.”
Marie said happily, “I understand he’s a local there and from a good family. What do his parents do for a living? How is he? Is he cute?”
Giselle was a little annoyed by her mother’s questions. She stopped Marie quickly, “Who told you that, Mom?”
“Do you know Mr. Vincent, who lives in our community? His daughter was your classmate and also works in Reywing She told her mother, who told me about your relationship. I wouldn’t have known it weren’t for her.”
Mr. Vincent’s daughter knew Giselle and Mickey were together long ago.
She accidentally ran into them together once.
She saw Giselle and Mickey holding hands and doing stuff any regular couple always did. That was how she found out.
Giselle told that girl to keep it a secret as she wasn’t ready to reveal it to her family.
More importantly, Mr. Vincent’s daughter knew Mickey too. There was a reason why Mickey would earn Giselle’s favor.
Mickey and Giselle went to the same college. They felt close to each other because they had similar college experiences.
However, Mr. Vincent’s daughter didn’t honor her promise. When she told others about Giselle and Mickey, they already broke up.
“Mom, about that, we already broke up and…”
“I know, I know. You don’t have to hide it anymore. I know you don’t want to come back. Don’t worry. I won’t stop you from marrying a local there and starting a new life.”
Marie kept on without giving Giselle a chance to explain what had happened.
Finally, Marie’s friend came to invite her to go out. Then, she hung up the phone.
Giselle didn’t say anything
“Never mind. It’s a long story. I’ll find some other time to explain to her.” Thought Giselle.
As just Giselle hung up the phone and returned to her desk, she ran into Jenny. The latter walked past Giselle swaggeringly without saying hello.
Giselle didn’t let her anger get the better of her. She just went back to her work.
Chapter 21
It was almost off–duty time. Those who worked outdoors had already left. Only people with no tasks were still in the office.
Giselle was planning to go to Joyland Hotel with Mickey and Jenny later.
Before she left, the deliveryman delivered a bundle of flowers booked by Mickey to the office. Mickey took it and gave it to Jenny.
He also prepared a jewelry necklace worth thousands of dollars for Jenny.
Jenny was pleasantly surprised, “Mickey, what’s the big occasion? Why are you giving me presents all of a sudden?”
“No occasion. You are my darling girlfriend. I don’t need a reason to get you nice stuff. I just want you to be happy.”
Mickey said affectionately. People cheered when they saw how happy Mickey made Jenny feel.
Jenny was happy and proud. She glanced at Giselle, eyes full of flaunt.
But Giselle didn’t seem to notice her. She was ready to leave.
Just as Giselle was about to reach the door, Jenny stopped her and said, “Mickey just gave me a big bundle of roses. To share my happiness, I gave everyone a rose. This one is for you.”
Before Giselle could refuse, Jenny took one rose and gave it to her.
It would make Giselle look petty if she rejected Jenny now. Therefore, Giselle pursed her lips and decided to take it.
It was just a rose. Giselle wouldn’t lose control over that.
Just as Giselle reached out to take the rose,
something sparkling shone under the light and attracted people’s attention.
Everyone looked at Giselle’s finger, and there it was, a dazzling diamond ring.
Jenny stared at that diamond ring for a long time.
Before she could realize it, one colleague standing beside her exclaimed excitedly, “Giselle! Is that your wedding ring? I haven’t seen you wear it before.”
“Wow, what a beautiful ring! Is it a designer brand?”
“This diamond ring looks like more than one carat. How much did it cost? Is it expensive?”
Giselle’s colleagues discussed in heat. Before Giselle could answer all their questions, someone suddenly said, “I’ve got it. This looks like a diamond ring! once saw in Tiffany’s.”
“Really? Let me search for it on Google.”
“Okay. Stand still, Giselle. Let pre take a picture of it and check online…”
Giselle didn’t expect hef colleagues would make such a fuss about her ring. Before she could do anything, they already took a picture of her diamond ring and checked if on Google.
Everyone gasped when they saw the result.
“I knew it! It’s from the Tiffany. According to this guy online, the diamond ring is worth over 20 grand!”
“What? Are you serious?”
Someone double–checked, “Come again?”
“According to this guy who bought this ring before, it costs about 20,000 dollars.”
12:57 Wed, 5 Jul.
Chapter 21
Jenny was so jealous that she almost broke the roses in het hands, “Did your husband buy this diamond ring for you?”
Giselle nodded slightly
“Are you sure it’s authentic? Judging from its gloss and hardness, I think it’s fake.”
Jenny was happy and proud when Mickey helped her wear that jewelry necklace, but now she was envious.
Her necklace looked like garbage compared to the diamond ring on Giselle’s finger
Mickey also noticed Jenny’s changing emotions. He mocked Giselle, “That can’t be an authentic Tiffany diamond ring. Giselle’s husband is only an insurance broker How could he afford to buy such an expensive ring for her? I highly doubt it.”
He continued purposefully, “I don’t mean to insult anyone here. I’m just being honest. Giselle, you can’t be fooled by your husband. Perhaps it was a fake ring he bought online.”
