Madilynne

Chapter Heartsick

Madilynne’s P.O.V

“I’ll have a room ready for you this afternoon, until then you’re with me. Might as well start your training now.” Kole shrugged as he walked down a hall.

Following Kole down the hall, I noticed the similarities this House held to Kades. With the exception of Koles being more homey than extravagant. It suited him.

Walking into Koles office I sat down on the sofa, “So where do we start Alpha?” I joked as I lazily flopped backward in a laying position.

“Kole is fine, Madi.” Kole said while rolling his eyes at me, earning a chuckle from me.

“We start from the heart of the pack, the problems. The pack is only strong when we are united as one.” Koles expression was serious, instantly sobering my laughs.

“Alrighty, what problems do we have?” I asked, sitting up.

“The problems You have are on this list.” Kole said holding up a paper. Standing up I walked over and grabbed the list to read.

My gaze traveled up and down the list “How am I supposed to help all these people? I don’t even know where to find them Kole.” I said, annoyed that he expected me to resolve all these problems.

“Guess you’ll have to get to know the pack, better get to it Madi.” Kole shrugged with a small smile creeping on his face.

Sighing deeply “Fine.” I stood up from my spot and walked to the door. Just as I was reaching the door handle Kole spoke “Take Mason with you, in case you run into any problems.”

Shutting the door behind me, I shouted down the hall. “Mason! You’re with me today pretty boy!” Waiting, I leaned against the wall. I could hear Kole chuckling in his office, bringing a smile to my face.

I could hear a thud, followed by a clatter of dishes. God’s, add that to the list. “Damnit Mason Carter! Watch where you’re going!” A woman’s voice hollered as I laughed. “Sorry Sienna! When a pretty lady calls, you don’t leave her waitin’!” Mason shouted as he stumbled into the hall.

Mason made his way to where I stood, “You needed me gorgeous?” He asked as he ran a hand through his sandy brown hair. Rolling my eyes at him, I pushed off the wall “Yeah, we’ve got some work to do. You, my friend, will be showing me around the pack to help out some fellow pack members.” I said waving the list in front of him.

Mason groaned “Not the list.”

“The problems aren’t going to fix themselves ladies, get it movin’!” Kole hollered from his office. Both of us walked down the hall and out the door Kole brought us through earlier.

The next few hours of the day were spent helping and fixing any problems some of the pack members had. I was introduced to many new faces. Now, walking back to the packhouse with Mason was quiet. A good quiet.

“So what brings you here? If you don’t mind me asking.” Mason inquired.

“Crazy ex.” I stated, I really didn’t want to explain my whole story.

“Well that’s not much to go on, How do you know Alpha Kole?” He asked, prying still.

Blowing air out through my lips “Honestly? At one point I was Mated to his brother.”

“You’re Kades Mate? Holy shit.”

“Was.” I sighed out.

“What happened?” Mason’s blue eyes held my own as his pace slowed.

“Remember that crazy ex I mentioned? He happened.” My hand wandered mindlessly to where his mark once sat.

“Sorry to hear that, Madi. Hey how about we grab some lunch? It’s been a long morning.” His eyes held sincerity, no longer prying for more answers. Nodding my head, we made our way back to the kitchen.

“Beta Mason, You’re wanted in the Alphas office.” A young boy came up to us as we sat at the island.

“Duty calls Madi, I’ll see you around.” He said with a small smile on his face.

“Eat, might help you feel better babe.” The woman from earlier asked as she slid a plate of bacon and eggs towards me.

Giving the woman, Sienna I think her name is, a small smile I picked up the fork and started eating.

After finishing my late breakfast, I wandered back to Kole’s office.

“Hey, mind if I take off for a bit and go for a run?” I asked knocking on the open door.

“Go ahead, take your time Madi.” Kole said.

Walking out of the packhouse, I shifted the second my feet hit the ground below me.

Running, my mind was bombarded with thoughts of Katie. My dad. Kade. Trying to shake the thoughts, I ran harder.

The sun was setting now, But still, I couldn’t shake the small moments Kade and I shared. I missed the sparks. I missed him. I didn’t have enough time with any of them.

Why.

Slowing my run, a field with a large oak tree came into view that sat perfectly in the center. Walking closer, I laid at its roots. Closing my eyes, whimpering I drifted off.

I could hear footsteps nearing me, refusing to open my eyes I just laid there.

Arms wrapped around me, lifting me from the ground. “I’ve got you Madi.” Kole’s gruff voice whispered as he carried me.

Shifting back in his arms, I could feel the tears rolling down my cheeks. “I miss him, Kole.”

Kole gripped me tighter “I know.”

I could feel Kole lay me down on a bed as I continued to let the tears flow. Cold air wrapped around me from the lack of any contact. Curling into myself, I let the darkness overcome me.

Running, my breaths were coming in uneven and ragged. The cold air biting at any exposed flesh. My feet were stinging from the rocks and branches cutting at my flesh below my feet. I was being pulled into one direction, my limbs moving at their own accord.

Suddenly I was back at the Nightshade Pack. I watched helplessly as Miles commanded the rogue wolves to kill them. I watched as his lifeless body, fell to the floor in a pool of blood. Crying I tried to call out to him, My voice nothing but air.

His green eyes held mine, lifeless and cold.

‘If I can’t have you, No one can.’ His breath brushed against the back of my neck.

No. This isn’t real. They’re alive.

“Madi! Wake up!” Koles gruff voice broke me from my scream.
