Kade's P.O.V

It wasn’t fair for me to ask Madi not to heal Mya’s pain, but I just got her back, she needs time to process everything. Hell, even I do. Every time she did this we didn’t know how long she would be out for, or if she would even wake up. This was all unfamiliar territory. It was tearing me up inside that she thought this was all her fault. Katie didn’t die at her hands, No. This was all Miles.

Turning around to get dressed, Madi was no longer in the bathroom. “Madi?” The room was silent as I listened for a breath. Goddess, she probably didn’t even hear a word I said about not healing, she was pushing herself too hard.

I threw my shoes on quickly and ran down the stairs. I could hear Madi shouting outside through the pouring rain. What the hell is going on?

Opening the door, I watched as Mya fell to her knees, I could hear her sorrow-filled cries from the distance. I watched as my Beautiful Mate caught me in her sights, but then her eyes lit up a fierce gold, and the palms of her hands matching the hue. Goddess no! I jumped from the porch and ran as hard as I could.

′ Madi don’t!′

‘I have too.’ Her whisper floated through our link, I could see the torn look her eyes held. She didn’t have a choice. She was made for this.

Fear and panic flooded my senses, I couldn’t help but be a bystander watching my mate. I prayed to the moon goddess this wouldn’t be the last time I’d see her eyes full of life.

Catching her as she released her hold on Mya ‘I’ll wake soon handsome.’ I could barely hear her mumble out. I picked Madi up and silently walked to the packhouse, listening to her heartbeat. It’s thumping In sync with my own.

I carefully laid her on the bed and moved in next to her, bringing the blankets over us. For a while I just laid there, listening to her breathing and her heartbeat. My eyes were starting to grow heavy before the link between us flooded with panic and fear. I sat up and tried to shake her awake, but she wasn’t responding. “Goddess Madi, wake up!” “Please!” Her whimpers were sending my wolf and I into distress as they continued. ‘Wake mate up!’ Jaxx growled ‘I’m trying!’

Madi’s whimpers turned into an ear-piercing scream as she jolted awake finally.

I just wanted to be there for her but she was freezing me out. What kind of mate would I be if I didn’t try to help her through her inner turmoil? God’s, she was ripping herself apart with all of this. Madi left the room minutes ago, I knew she could sense how I was feeling.

Her wolf was calling to Jaxx, I knew she had shifted when I felt her wolf’s presence stronger in our bond.

‘Mate says Madi needs time, we can give her that.’ Jaxx stated. I sighed, fine. Rolling over, I tried to sleep for a bit, ending up just tossing and turning. Thinking at any moment she would walk through the door.

I could hear voices downstairs yelling frantically before my brother was beating on the door. “What’s goin’ on man?” I asked opening the door. ” A Rogue was scented on the North border. Get dressed we’re going now.” Kole rushed out. Fuck!

I tried to reach Madi on our way out but she had put a block up. Kole sensed my unease at my missing mate, ” I’ll find her. You handle things here.” Kole said before shifting into his brown wolf.

The scent was strong but then started trailing towards the South, I raced through the woods in wolf form tracking the bastard that broke into the territory. This may not be my pack but it was My mates, so I’d protect everyone as if it were. Still trying to reach Madi as I raced through the trees, ‘Madi!’

‘Yeah?’ Her soft voice was hesitant and confused.

‘I’ve been trying to reach you for hours but you put a block up, we caught a rogue scent on the north border. You need to return home.’

My nerves were calming finally being able to talk to my mate, knowing she was going home and would be safe. Reaching the South border, The scent was faint and circled back around, Growing stronger in the direction back to the North border. Fuck!

‘Kade I know you’re not happy with me but there are pups out on the North border, there’s a rogue nearby.’ Her voice was worried and laced with unease. DAMNIT! She was supposed to be home by now!

I let out a warning howl to the pack that a rogue was on the territory, My brothers howl coming from the north responding to my own. Thank the moon goddess. I pushed my wolf to run as fast as we could ‘Find her please Kole’ I mind-linked my Brother.

‘I’ve got eyes on her. She took down the rogue, Pups are safe. Meet us at the packhouse.’ Kole’s surly voice floated through.

Reaching the packhouse and shifting back I ran inside expecting to see Madi. She wasn’t here. I paced in front of the door waiting for my mate. I debated on going out there and finding her and bringing her back. Suddenly the door opened and her scent hit my senses as she walked through.

I hadn’t really planned on asking Madi on a date, but the very thought sent a big grin to my face. I probably looked like a big oaf, watching her tease me and laugh, It was the most beautiful sight.

“Sorry to interrupt kids, but I need ya in my office.” Alpha Finn’s voice pierced through our temporary problem-free bubble, sobering my mood. Walking to the office I could feel her gaze trailing across my face, leaving a heated feeling in its wake.

Entering the office, Alpha Finn spoke “Sit, please.”

Both of us taking a seat across from him I cleared my throat, encouraging him to tell us what this was about.

“Look I’m not going to sugar coat anything for you guys, you’ve both seen how cruel our world can be. Madi you are the heir to this pack and Luna to another, add in being a blessed wolf with abilities it’s putting you on radars that are endangering your life. As your father I can’t sit back and not do anything, I’m sure I speak for Kade as well on that aspect. So what we do know is there is a traitor in the pack, sadly. It isn’t safe for you to remain here. Rogue sightings and obvious breaches are coming more frequent. I have a plan to get you safely out of here. Kade, no one outside of your pack and close enforcers have met Madi am I correct?” His eyes were stone-cold serious.

“That’s correct Alpha, Why do you ask?” I said drawing my eyebrows in as I spoke.

“Call me Finn, son. Because the safest place on this earth for Madilynne is with your pack. You have the numbers, and Your enforcers have already proven that they would do anything for their Luna. I know you’d move Mountains to protect my baby girl, this is your chance to prove it son. I’m trusting you with the most precious thing in my life.” Fuck, he was right. I don’t know why this never crossed my mind sooner. Not only would my pack protect their Luna, but My brothers’ pack would aid us as well. I would lay down my life for Madi.

Holding eye contact with Madi. ” Whatever the threat, I’ll always protect you, with my life love.”

“Glad we’re on the same page, here’s the plan. Tonight I will announce Madi’s departure, But it won’t be her leaving. It will be Mya. Mya will travel back to Red moon pack accompanied by some of our enforcers, and you Kade. Kole will meet you with Madi outside of Crescent pack territory, By then Miles should catch wind of her travels and go in the direction of the red moon pack, away from Nightshade pack. After she leaves Crescent territory it is up to you to get her to Nightshade pack safely.” Gods he really thought everything through.
