Love’s Second Act by Alvis Midden

Chapter 31

Chapter 31

Yvette lowered her head, concealing her sharp gaze, and her tone was pitiful. She is your mother, and I should have paid her a visit. I sincerely apologize.”

“You don’t need to apologize.” Calvin said angrily,

He could not help himself, especially when he saw Yvette looking so vulnerable.

There was a time when Natalie also acted like that toward him. However, no matter what happened recently, even when those people bullied her, she never asked for his help again.

She would rather go to the police for assistance than seek his protection.

Yvette took a deep breath and said, “I know Mrs. Jeffords despises me, but my current situation is not something I hoped for. My life has been ruined forever…

As she spoke, Yvette began to cry softly.

Initially, Calvin wanted to ask about the evidence, but seeing Yvette like that, he forgot all about it

He ran his hand through his disheveled hair and said, “Don’t worry. You will surely regain your sight and stand up again!”

He said those words with conviction.

Yvette still kept her head down and replied, “It’s not that easy. Doctors warned me that if I do not find a suitable retina and have a transplant as soon as possible, I might be blind for the rest of my life.”

Hearing that, Calvin held his breath.

In reality, the doctors had told him the same thing, which was why he had been looking for a suitable retina for transplant for so long.

However, the process of retinal transplantation was complex and stringent, and living donations were extremely rare, as was the supply of donated retinas from deceased individuals.

Despite his efforts, he had not received any leads.

Without waiting for Calvin to respond, Yvette said, her voice full of complicated emotions and sorrow, “She is lucky to have you by her side.

When Calvin heard that, he felt as if he had been thrown into the depths of icy water.

Even though public opinion had shifted, Calvin and the people there still believed Natalie was to blame for Yvette’s current

situation.

That was how human minds worked. It was difficult for them to change their minds once they had formed an opinion.

Calvin’s perception was no exception.

He always held on to his own thoughts. When he decided to be with Natalie back then, he ignored all his family’s disapproval. And now, he was sure Natalie was the one to blame

Faced with Yvette’s butter words, Calvin could only say, with a hint of helplessness toward Natalie in his voice, “Thave indulged her too much!”

“I just need her to apologize. Is that asking too un h Yvette asked her tone indicating stubbornness and dissatisfaction.

Her words made him feel sorry for her

Without waiting for Calvin to respond, Yvette continued, “I just want to prove my innocence. I have gone through so much. Should I also put up with all the taunts and insults from the outside world because of her? It is not fair to me

As Yvette spoke, her voice choked up.

She spoke as

After hearing that, Calvin got up and clenched his fists.

Coldness flashed across his eyes.

“Get some rest,” he said.

Without waiting for Yvette’s response, he turned and walked out of the ward.

protection

He had only taken a few steps when he heard Yvette’s sobbing voice ask, “Can I ever see the sunlight and stand up again?”

Calvin paused in his steps and turned back.

Yvette’s face was filled with despair, and he made a critical decision at that moment.

Closing his eyes briefly, he spoke with determination. “Yes!”

After Natalie and Brianna finished showering and were preparing to go to bed, there was a loud knocking on the door, as if someone were trying to break it down.

They both knew exactly who it was

Brianna turned and walked to the kitchen to get a knife, cursing under her breath. “That shameless bastard!”

Natalie’s heart raced when she saw that,

She quickly grabbed Brianna, took the knife from her hand, and then handed her the pig, saying, “Go back to your room

first!”

“Nat…

“I know how to deal with this. Natalie knew exactly why Calvin was there looking for her at that moment.

She was also aware of his temperament and did not want Brianna to confront him directly.

Although Brianna was fuming, she ultimately didn’t say anything. Following Natalie’s instructions, she went back to the bedroom with the pig in her arms.

The knocking on the door persisted, now sounding more like kicking.

“Natale, come out yelled Calvin angrily from the outside.

“What is all this racket about this late at night?” scolded a neighbor from the opposite apartment, apparently ted up with the

Young people these days. Following the disappearance of the geighbor’s voice, a door-closing sound was heard

When Calvin’s gaze turned sharp, it was muugh to make anyung feel terbed

It did not take Natalie much thought to realize that it was his cold gaze that had driven that person away

Just then, Natalie walked over and opened the door

She noticed the man standing outside, radiating coldness, and his solemnity was unlike anything she had ever seen.

It was as if he was a disappointed parent who wanted to discipline his child, and he was in complete command of the

situation.

Natalie did not back down and retorted, “Have you lost your mind”

As soon as Natalie said that, he grabbed her wrist forcefully and dragged her out. Her right arm was already in bad shape, and as Calvin dragged her, the pain intensified. She staggered a few steps before collapsing to her knees. A piercing pain rushed through her b*dy the moment her knees hit the ground.

Her face instantly turned pale the next second.

Meanwhile, Calvin in front of her simply looked back at her before hoisting her up and carrying her over his shoulder to the

elevator.

Natalie’s emotions were out of control as she pounded on his back. You madman, put me down! Let me go!”

Nonetheless, her struggles had little effect on him.

The moment Natalie was pushed into the car, she tried to get out from the other side, but the next moment, a forceful tug on her ankle pulled her back in.

Natalie struggled vehemently as she was made to sit in the back seat. Calvin, however, grabbed her and threatened. “You

better behave!

“Get off me!” Natalie shouted.

Her uncompromising tone only made Calvin’s expression grow colder.

The driver wished he could abandon the car and leave, but he remembered Calvin’s orders and forced himself to drive away despite his trembling hands.

Natalie looked up at Calvin, who was pressing down on her, his gaze deep and incomprehensible, like the mighty ocean

Moments later, Calvin piped up. “You took away her legs and eyes! All she wants is for you to apologize! That is not too much to ask, is it?”

Natalie could not believe what she had just heard, and her mind went blank as if everyone had abandoned her in the bleak darkness.

Calvin, who had always stood by her no matter what was happening, now asked her to apologize to Yvette.

After a long time, Natalie came back to her senses.

Looking at the man on top of her, she said firmly. “I won’t apologize to her!”

“It’s not up to you.

“Even if it means going to jail, I will never apologize to that woman!” Natalie bellowed.

Of course, she knew she wouldn’t actually go to jail

After all, she had absolute confidence in the police

However, when it came to Calvin, the man she had once put herrot in she could not help but be disappointed.

A loud slapping wound could be heard the next mont
