It was 3:00 pm, and the Caldwell Villa was filled with enticing aromas. The dining table was filled with a spread of delicious dishes.

Both Layla and Arthur watched as Millie cooked diligently in the kitchen. Arthur then asked Terrence,” What’s going on with Millie?”

He couldn’t figure out why Millie had suddenly put together a grand spread for the family.

“Millie… Well, she’ll explain herself shortly. I just hope you’re both prepared for what she’s about to say,” Terrence answered. He was already aware of Millie’s plans.

After hearing Terrence’s reply, Layla felt unsettled. “What is she up to now? First, she quit the job! arranged for her, and now, she’s been wandering around, even hurting herself. Why can’t she-”

But before Layla could voice her frustration further, she fell silent as Millie appeared with the dishes. She stared at her granddaughter.

Millie clapped her hands and announced with a grin, “Alright, now that the last dish is served, we’re ready

to eat!”

She had prepared a few dishes along with a hearty soup. Since Arthur loved salmon, she placed the fish in front of him. Layla preferred having the salad, so Millie set it before her.

Terrence enjoyed steak with his wine, while Julia was flexible and happy with anything available on the

table.

Even though Millie hadn’t been home for a while and hadn’t cooked for them recently, she still remembered everyone’s preferences.

“So, how’s the food? Is it good?” Millie asked Terrence, who nodded approvingly.

Layla, however, couldn’t bring herself to eat as she stared at the food before her.

“If you have something to tell us, just say it, Mills,” she urged, sensing the somber atmosphere.

Arthur nodded in agreement. He thought it was best to get things out in the open. After all, he would support Millie no matter what.

Millie gave a gentle smile before saying, “I was going to wait till after lunch, but since Grandma brought it up, I’ll tell you now. Then, we can eat.”

Layla frowned, feeling anxious about what was coming.

Millie clasped her hands together and declared, “Grandpa, Grandma, Mom, Dad. I’m planning to go abroad to study. I want to take a course that will help me learn how to manage the company. After that, I’ll come back to assist Dad.”

Layla immediately questioned, “Study abroad? Didn’t we decide against that?”

“Grandma, I used to think of going abroad as a way to escape,” Millie answered earnestly. “But that’s not the case now. I genuinely want to learn how to run the company.”

Layla fell silent, but Arthur chuckled. “Well, that sounds like a good idea.”

“What good could possibly come from this? She’s leaving a promising medical career to take over the family business. Is running a company that simple? Besides, she’s a woman-” Layla snapped.

She took a bite of her food, her displeasure evident.

Before Millie could say anything, Terrence interjected, “Mom, it’s a good thing that Mills is stepping up to run the company. She needs to gain some experience. Why should being a woman be an issue?

“As a woman yourself, you shouldn’t be undermining other ladies. Just look at how many women are thriving in their careers these days! They have proven they can achieve great things. A young person like Mills should definitely have her own career. Don’t you agree?”

Layla was rendered speechless. It was clear from her expression that she was frustrated as she grumbled, “Fine, maybe I was too quick to judge.”

“That’s not what I meant, Mom,” Terrence hurriedly tried to smooth things over. “Let her do whatever she wants. After all, we’ve got the means to support her. If she wants to take risks, she should be free to do

so.”

This time, Layla didn’t respond, though her discontent was visible. She was firmly opposed to Millie going

overseas.

Yet, it was clear that Millie’s choice of major would never satisfy everyone in the family. When she decided to pursue medicine, Layla was delighted, bút Julia and Terrence were disappointed.
