Chapter 478

Chapter 478

It was a cruel twist of fate. Joanna had ruined the lives of everyone involved,

“Who told you that?” Millie asked.

Eli pursed his lips and answered, “Sonny Alpers. The man who kidnapped Mr. Greer.”

Millie frowned in response. Sonny? The name seemed to ring a bell.

“You might find the name familiar. He’s the one I’ve visited a few times before,” Eli explained.

Millie suddenly remembered. The person Yoel had swiftly escorted out from the emergency department

was Sonny. And the last time Eli visited a patient at the hospital, it was also Sonny!

It turned out she had crossed paths with the kidnapper countless times without realizing it.

So, Ms. Caldwell, you were the one who saved Mr. Greer, weren’t you?” Eli inquired.

Millie, now puzzled, countered, “Who else could it have been?”

“Why haven’t you mentioned it at all over the past three years?”

Millie calmly replied, “I thought he knew.”

Eli’s smile was tinged with resignation. How could Winston have known if she hadn’t told him? After all, he was also severely injured back then.

“Ms. Caldwell, it seems you’ve made a mistake,” Eli stated, his voice somewhat hoarse.

Millie felt helpless. She had only recently discovered that Winston had never known she was his savior.

“When Mr. Greer wakes up, can you tell him it was you who saved him?” asked Eli.

Millie’s lips curled into a faint smile as she uttered, “There’s no need for that. It doesn’t matter to me whether he knows or not.”

“But why? It’s important!”

After all, if it hadn’t been for Joanna’s claim that she had saved Winston, he wouldn’t have showered her with endless affection. If Winston had known that Millie was his savior, they might have been very happy

together now.

“I don’t want his love if it’s only because he feels obligated,” Millie said, tilting her head with a serious expression. There was even a subtle gleam in her eyes.

“Ms. Caldwell…”

Millie fixed her gaze on Eli, and right then, she made a decision. “Eli, if he doesn’t know, let’s keep it that way.”

Eli was even more perplexed upon hearing that.

“I’ve decided to go abroad,” Millie announced with a gentle smile.

She planned to pursue further studies in finance and management abroad. After that, she would return to take over Terrence’s company. She had begun to feel sorry for her father and wanted to ease his burdens.

Millie’s decision to leave wasn’t about running away from the minor issues in Yerwick. Instead, it was about striving for a more promising future.

“Eli, please keep this a secret.” Millie pressed a finger to her lips and looked at Eli earnestly.

Having said her piece, she hurried away. She was determined to cut all ties with Winston and anyone connected to him.

The world was full of possibilities. If they were meant to go their separate ways, Millie had no intention of trying to reconnect.

Back in her ward, Millie lowered her head and took a deep breath. After that, she pulled out her phone to text Marvin.

“Marvin, I’ve decided to go abroad for my studies.”

In no time, Marvin replied, “I’ll go with you.”

Millie broke into a grin. She was grateful to have Marvin by her side, who took on all her frustrations and negativity. He was truly a dependable friend.

Millie: “Get the school arrangements sorted. We’ll leave tomorrow night.”

Marvin: “So soon?”

Millie: “Yes.”

Early the next day, Millie was already discharged from the hospital.

Julia and Terrence arrived to see her packing up. In an instant, they chided, “You’re still not fully recovered. Why are you leaving the hospital now?”

“Millie, you need to listen to us!”

Millie ushered her parents into the car. As they drove, she told them, “Mom, Dad, I’m cooking lunch today. Let’s invite Grandma and Grandpa to join us.”

As soon as those words escaped her lips, Julia and Terrence exchanged a puzzled glance but didn’t respond.

What was Millie up to?
