Chapter 462

Megan turned and saw a young lady as pretty as she was.

Nothing.” She smiled and touched her arm on the spot where Winston had held her.

She seemed to feel the lingering warmth of his fingertips. Then, she lifted her arm and sniffed softly. Too bad he didn’t leave behind any scent.

Her first encounter with Winston was at the time he hosted a guest lecture at the University of Yerwick. She had lost her way and bumped into him, who was on the phone outside the lecture hall.

As fate would have it, a downpour started right after her lecture, and she didn’t have an umbrella with her.

Winston’s assistant then offered her an umbrella.

“Megan, did I see you bumping into Mr. Greer? Wait a minute. Is he your target tonight?” The young lady, Ellie Barney, poked Megan in the elbow.

Megan’s face instantly turned a deep shade of red. “Gosh, Ellie, would you listen to yourself? Someone of my status could never dream of dating Mr. Greer!”

Ellie, who was in the same line of work, smiled without saying more.

Megan shot another deep look at the elevator. Her heart raced at the thought of her arm that Winston touched.

Millie retired to her room and lay in her bed. She watched the floating ocean surface from the window with a tired mind and body.

She kicked off her shoes, ready to enjoy a peaceful night under the covers. It was then that she received a text from Winston.

“Come out and have a chat with me.”

She rolled her eyes. They had nothing to talk about.

Winston followed up with another text. “I know you’ve read my text. Millie, meet me on the third floor.*

She wasn’t shameless enough to knock on a guy’s door in the middle of the night. Moreover, they should go their separate ways after their divorce, even at the same event!

Her phone chimed from another text. Winston wrote curtly, “Millie Caldwell,” She stared at her name on the screen. He didn’t add anything else.

Somehow, she felt something tugging at her heartstrings. Over the years, she found it hard to resist Winston when he called her name.

Millie Caldwell…

Every time he called her name, it felt like he had something to tell her. However, what followed was usually silence, criticisms, or complaints.

Millie turned in the bed.

Winston texted her again, “You and Sean are incompatible.”

She replied, “And that is between me and Sean.”

Winston wrote, “I’m doing this for your own good. Sean is too young and too playful. He’s financially dependent on his family as well.”

She retorted, “Don’t say that you are doing things for my own good. If you really care about me, why didn’t you treat me better in the last three years?”

She had caught him. For a while, he couldn’t think of a good answer.

She added, “Winston Greer, do you know how difficult my life was in the last three years? On many nights, I believed that you loved me. But you proved me wrong every time something happened to Joanna or when she got hurt.”

She clutched her phone tightly as though her emotions were threatening to overflow. After a while, she held back her emotions that she deemed unnecessary and pointless.

She concluded, “It’d be best if we could stay out of each other’s lives.”

After she texted him, the doorbell rang without warning. She turned to the

door, wondering who could it be. Was it Winston? Or could that be Sean?

She stood at the door, ready to peek out of the peephole, when Winston spoke, “Millie Caldwell, open the door. I know you’re in there.”
