I rush up the steps of the college building the next morning, bumping into Eva who chuckles before steadying me as I apologize. Suddenly, her eyes widen and she takes off her scarf before wrapping it around my neck, pulling my hair forward.
“Oh um, thanks for the scarf but I don’t need -”
“You have dark hickeys all over your neck, idiot!” She bursts out laughing when my eyes widen. “I’m helping you.”
“W-What, no...” I whisper, stepping closer to a window before pulling away the scarf slightly.
A gasp escapes me when I see dark love bites on one side of my neck. Most of them are large and I immediately assume Kaden had made it so they are visible. Anger and frustration rises within me as I huff and turn back to Eva, smacking her upper arm when I see that she still hasn’t stopped cackling like a madwoman.
“Looks like someone got lucky last night.” She leans in close to whisper, wiggling her brows playfully.
“Shut. Up.” I growl, my cheeks on fire right now as I glance around nervously.
“It’s always the quiet ones, isn’t it?” She grins widely before it drops when I start to chase her, her laughter ringing in the quiet hallway.
I am going to murder Kaden Reid after college.
I cycle fast down the rough dirt track of the countryside, anger boiling in my veins. As soon as I see Kaden’s black Mustang parked to the side, I get off my bike and take off my helmet, throwing them haphazardly on the ground before marching through the gap in the tree line.
This man infuriates me sometimes! I pleaded with him to stop last night and not to leave any marks, trusting him when he promised he wouldn’t. Clearly, he lied because the side of my neck and my collarbone were covered in hickeys, you could barely see the colour of my skin underneath.
I rush up the steps and unlock the door. Stepping inside, I immediately notice him taking out a bottle from the fridge. He has his back to me but by the way his muscles tense slightly tells me that he’s acknowledged me.
“You stupid, horn dog!” I shout as I walk closer, glaring at the man who is currently staring at me in confusion. “What is this?!”
Kaden grins unashamed as he stares at my neck which is covered in dark hickeys. But when he catches my angry glare directed towards him, he coughs and shrugs innocently.
“You knew I had classes today.” I poke his chest, my anger increasing when he looks down at my finger and smirks. “I nearly walked into a lecture with all this on show if Eva hadn’t spotted me.”
“Luna,” He started in a dismissive tone, popping a chip into his mouth. “It wouldn’t have been so bad to walk into a lecture without covering up. You’re overreacting.”
My jaw drops and I splutter out incoherent words as I try and form a sentence. “Overreacting?!”
“From the way I see it, everyone would have realised that you are taken.” He grins devilishly, taking a seat on the couch with his plate of food.
“You...You are so territorial.” I growl angrily, crossing my arms as I stare at him.
“Blame the wolf not the human, darling.” He states before holding out a chicken wing. “Want some?”
“No.” I grumble, still peeved as I start making my way to the front door. “I’m going home.”
“So, you came all the way here just to yell at me?” He questions, a look of bewilderment and amusement on his face.
“Yes. Now, goodbye.” I state with finality, not wanting to give away that I was missing him too much throughout the day.
I have just stepped one foot out of the door when his arm wraps around my waist and pulls me back, the loud sound of the door slamming shut making me jump. I turn in his hold, resting my palms on his chest before looking up at him.
“Kaden, what -”
I’m cut off when he smashes his lips to mine. Whimpering at the sudden action, I fist the material of his shirt in my hand. His lips are soft and his movements turn gentle against my own, muscular arms wrapping around my waist to try and pull me impossibly closer. I gasp when his tongue swipes across my bottom lip, opening my mouth for him.
I forgot what we were arguing over.
The tangy flavour of ketchup still lingers on his tongue and I can taste the salt from the chips he was eating. His tongue massages my own as the kiss turns desperate. He cups my cheek and tilts my head, kissing me hungrily and igniting a wildfire within me.
I push on his chest as a sign to let me go. He reluctantly stops and pulls away, letting me breath. I pant softly, my eyes closing when he caresses my cheek. His eyes are swirling with a golden hue when I look up and I lose myself in how beautiful the blue compliments the gold.
And then his eyes darken which makes me gulp. He backs me up against a wall, caging me in with his arms on either side of me. My thighs clench together in anticipation and before I can escape, he is kissing me again.
I moan when he lifts me up, guiding my legs around his waist whilst I wrap my arms around his neck for balance. I tangle my fingers in his hair, biting my lip when he trails a path of fire from the base of my neck to my jaw. Tugging on his dark strands, I tilt his chin and press my lips to his.
He groans huskily, carrying me across the room and up the stairs. I’m a mess when he lays me down on his bed, unbuttoning my coat and taking it off. I tug on his shirt, indicating that I want it off to which he happily obliges. I let my fingers roam his torso, trailing over his defined abs as he works on taking my jeans off.
I am left in only my bra and underwear, my clothes thrown haphazardly around the room. Not being able to handle his intense stare, I pull him down for a kiss, a low growl escaping him as he crawls on top of my body. My heart is racing with anticipation of what can happen but I know that I am ready. If there is one thing I am sure of, it is that I want Kaden to be my first and last.
His thumb caresses a spot on my neck and I bite my lip in anticipation because that was where mates mark each other. Instead of feeling nervous, a sense of calm washes over me. I’m not scared of him marking me, in fact, I want him to do it. His dark eyes meet mine and I nod, pulling him closer. He rests his forehead against mine and a shaky breath escapes him.
“It’s going to hurt at first. We don’t have to do it now if you don’t want to.” He whispers, making me smile at how thoughtful he was being.
“I want you to mark me, Kaden. It’s okay.” I reassure him, caressing his cheek.
“Are you sure?” He asks again, making me nod without hesitation.
“Of course. I’m yours Kaden, I want you to mark me.” I whisper, watching as a prideful glint flashed in his eyes.
“And I’m yours.” He murmurs, nuzzling his nose against mine before taking a deep breath.
I relax myself because I know it’s going to hurt more if I stiffen up. I watch in fascination as his canines elongate before he tilts my head so he could have more access. And just like that, his canines tear my skin and embed themselves into my neck.
I scream in pain, my nails raking down Kaden’s back. I’m pretty sure that it’s hurting him but I don’t care, the pain is nowhere near enough what I’m feeling right now. It lasts for a minute more before the pain turns into pleasure. I wrap my legs around his waist, moaning softly as he pulls his teeth out before licking at my torn skin.
His eyes are dark and feral when he backs away to look down at me. Kaden growls deeply, staring at the place he marked me with love and pride. I feel the tingles when his hand caresses my skin, it’s like I was missing something all my life and now I’m complete.
Getting back into bed, he pulls the covers up and wraps an arm around my waist, pulling me close. Nuzzling his face into the crook of my neck, he sighs lightly, pressing a kiss to my mark which makes me hum softly.
“W-Was that okay for you?” I ask shyly, wondering if he felt the same way I did tonight.
Kaden chuckles, turning me around so I face him. His expression softens over seeing how nervous I am and I watch amazed at how the dark black of his eyes fades to let a light blue come through; as if storm clouds are giving way to a blue sky. A strand of hair falls onto my face but he catches it, tucking it away behind my ear before caressing my cheek.
“That was amazing. You’re perfect in every way to me, Luna. Never doubt that.” He murmurs, causing a fiery blush to grace my cheeks.
“You’re perfect too.” I whisper, hiding my face in his chest when he laughs loudly.
“Goddess, I love you Luna.” He chuckles, making me squeal as he turns us over so that he is now hovering above my body.
“Y-You love me?” I ask in surprise, watching as a look of adoration flashes in his eyes.
He nods, pressing a firm kiss to my forehead. “I do. I am completely and hopelessly in love with you, Luna Winters.”
I stare at him in silence, shock coursing through me. Kaden loves me. His husky chuckle brings me out of my thoughts and I focus on him again.
“You don’t have to say it, I just -”
“No!” I blurt out, cutting him off and he looks at me expectantly. “I love you too, Kaden. I just...you caught me off guard.”
“Why?” He smiles, his eyes crinkling at the corners as he lays back down.
I release a deep breath, turning and resting my head on his chest, my arm wrapping around his waist. “I think I had started to fall in love with you before things between us got serious...and it scared me. I felt like you didn’t feel the same way until you told me we were mates.”
“The mate bond facilitates two individuals in accepting each other, but with you it was different, Luna. You are human, you couldn’t feel the intensity of the bond the way I felt it. Before you even accepted me and what I was, I fell in love with you.” He admits, fingertips stroking my side in a lazy manner.
“I feel it now.” I mumble, referring to the crazy tingles and sparks dancing on my skin in elation.
He chuckles, tilting my chin up to kiss me soundly on the lips. His eyes have darkened at the corners when he pulls away and his face holds a serious expression. “You’re going to feel a lot more now that I have marked and mated with you. Especially how possessive I can get.”
“W-What?” I squeak, pulling back slightly to stare at him in disbelief.
“Mates become over-protective and possessive when they have marked and mated with their other half. My beast and I won’t be able to help it, only you can calm us down.” He smirks, licking my mark and blowing air onto it teasingly.
