🐺Alester🐺

It’s the morning everyone leaves. We’ve been working hard preparing for my father’s inevitable assault on my home, on my life.

“You three take care of each other. I’ll see you when all of this is over”.

I hug my mom tight, this could be the last time I see her. I hope we all make it but there is a chance this could be my last day on this earth.

“I love you.” I whisper in her ear and kiss her cheek.

She turns to Kylah and hugs her too.

“It’s been nice getting to know you these last few days.” Kylah says with tears in her eyes.

“You as well, dear. Kody, come here and give me a hug”.

Kody is still uncomfortable but he’s not scared of everything like he was before. Now he’s trying to figure out where he belongs. I’ve watched him train the last couple mornings and he’s improved. He’s beautiful when he fights.

“Bye Tracy.” he hugs her while she cries.

Sadie comes outside with Brandon, “Alester you and Brandon better look after each other. If I come back here and either of you are gone I will kill you”.

“Sadie, that doesn’t make any sense”.

“I. Will. Kill. You.” she punctuates each word with a poke to my chest.

“Ok damn, calm down.” I laugh.

“You better look after those mate’s of yours because I will kill you in the worst way if something happens to my Kody”.

“I promise I will protect them with my life.” I vow.

“Sadie, promise me you won’t make life too difficult for the twins. You are supposed to help them so Marcus and Tessa can come back.” Brandon says as he takes her in his arms.

She turns to face him and rolls her eyes before pulling him into an almost desperate kiss, “I promise”.

“You know you two have about fifteen minutes before she has to leave”.

Brandon and Sadie look at each other before and run back into the house. We all chuckle before the reality of our situation slowly sets in.

“Alright the busses are loaded up and are leaving and it’s just us now.” Alpha Zane says when he comes back down the driveway.

I thank him and then mom comes back outside asking if we have seen Sun. We haven’t yet but she should be down with the girl’s soon.

“We’re here.” Sun says a bit breathless from wrangling her two active girls, “sorry we’re late”.

“You’re fine, Sun.” I smile.

“We go?” Mia asks Sun.

“We go bacation?” Tia also asks.

“Bacation?” I ask.

“Vacation.” Kody says.

“Oh, yeah, that makes sense.” I feel stupid.

Kylah helps Sun get Mia and Tia in their car seats. Zane gets into the drivers seat and Sadie and Brandon come back outside with her wild sex hair, a huge bag of snacks for the drive and a very satisfied look on her face.

She hugs Kody and makes him promise to be around for her cub and he does even though he is still struggling with everything. I think just like before, she is the only person he truly trusts.

“Take care baby, I love you.” Brandon says before giving her one last hug and kiss.

“I love you more. Fight hard for us and be safe. Make sure our cub and I have someone to come home to”.

Finally they all get loaded in the SUV and pull away. We stand there watching them until we can’t see them anymore.

“What do we do now?” Kody asks.

“We stash the rest of the grenades, clear the pack house and start preparing for all the warriors to arrive. Alpha Alan and Alpha Talon’s troops are already in the air and will be here in about four hours.” Brandon informs us.

“Alpha Jacob sent him a while ago. They will arrive in two.” I add.

“Blood Moon will be here tonight. Atlas called this morning. They are getting our pack settled and then bringing the busses back here.” Kylah tells us.

“Have we heard anything about where Les might be?” I ask.

“Amber Wood reported a lack of wildlife movement around their borders this morning.” Brandon gives us additional information.

“Aren’t they a small pack?” Kody asks.

“They are and he might be tempted to try and take them over but they aren’t the goal right now, we are. If we lose this every pack on the continent is at risk of falling victim to him”.

“Then we can’t lose.” Kylah says, wrapping her arms around me.

The next few hours are spent preparing and training. Alpha Jacob’s pack arrived and started training with our guy’s immediately. When Alpha Talon’s and Alan’s guys landed we had dinner and then ran them around the lands to give them a better idea of where our weak spots are. When we finished the tour Blood Moon was waiting for us.

“Where do you need us, Alpha?” Duffy asks.

“Can you and Larcan show them around? Here are the plans so you can go over positioning and show them where all the explosives are hidden. Oh and can you all handle the night patrols?” I ask him.

They take the plans and the warriors and go on their way. Everyone else trains late into the night before we all head off to bed.

I enter our suite and am surprised when I hear Kody’s voice coming from the bedroom.

“You’re so beautiful. Haha-st-stop-hahahaha, Liv please.” he laughs.

I quietly open the door and quickly snap a picture. Liv has Kody pinned to the bed and is licking his face. The flash got her attention and she bounds over to me jumping excitedly, she ends up knocking both of us to the floor.

“We are preparing for war and you’re acting like a puppy.” I say to her laughing at her playfulness.

"It can’t be all depressing war stuff. I just wanted to take his mind off of things. He looks sad and scared.″ She links.

I smile at her, get up off the floor and walk to the bed. Kody is sitting again but he’s hanging his head and his shoulders are slumped. I desperately want to make it better, I start to rub his necks and shoulders hoping it’s enough.

“Mmmh” he moans.

It’s a huge turn on but that’s not the goal of this.

“Everything will be ok little wolf”.

I lean down and kiss behind his ear, “just stay close to Kylah, Tessa, Marcus, Brandon or myself, ok?”

“uh huh”.

“Everything will be fine. We have to believe that.” Kylah says.

Kylah comes over to us wearing only a short silk robe that she’s still tying closed. She gets on the bed in front of Kody and takes his hands.

“Little wolf, I promise we will be ok”.

Kody rests his head against her and inhales deeply.

“How do you know?” he asks.

“I know because I haven’t had a chance to complete my bonds with you and there is no way in hell I’m going to allow Les to steal that from us.” she says passionately while playing with his hair.

“That’s my girl.” I say proudly.

She kisses Kody’s lips and lays in the middle of the bed. I kiss his shoulder and his cheek before I pull him down next to her. She whines in protest but moves over so our little wolf can be enveloped in all of our love.

“Little Luna, you can be in the middle later.” I assure her.

“Fiiiiiine”.

“If you want the middle I will move for you.” he tells her.

“Oh little wolf, you don’t have to”.

Kylah kisses his shoulder and nestles into him, “little wolf?”

“Hm.” he hums.

“What made you join us last night?”

His brows furrowed and he looked worried, like maybe she isn’t happy he was here. I look at her and subtly shake my head no.

“Oh no, Little Wolf... I am so glad you were. I was just wondering what changed your mind”.

“Cage did. He’s been very... annoying when I’m not around you both.

“When all this is over I am locking us away for a week.” she teases.

We share a laugh and hold on to each other like it’s our last chance.

“I love you both so much.” I tell them.

“I love you both.” Kylah says.

Kody doesn’t say it back and I can tell he’s struggling with it.

"We love you too, we’re just scared." Cage links us.

We both caress his body and tell him that it’s ok. We will have the rest of our lives to say it to each other because this will not be our end.

“Goodnight my loves”.

The next morning I woke up and my mates were clinging to each other. It was a sight. I kissed them both and went to get ready for our busy day.

When I got to the office Duffy and Larcan were filling in Marcus, Brandon and Tessa on the night’s events.

“Where is the rest of the patrol?” I ask.

“The next group has already left and our groups are getting ready to sleep for a few hours.” Duffy tells me.

“The wildlife was skittish, more than normal.” Larcan said.

“So they are here then.” I state

“It appears so. I don’t know why they haven’t attacked.” Marcus says, vexed.

The door opens and Dani walks in, “they haven’t attacked because they can’t get in, for now anyway.” she says.

“Dani!” I am so happy to see her.

“Hello little brother.” she says.

“Really, little?”

“I am older than you”.

“I know but come on, I’m six-foot-six and you’re what, four-foot-nine?”

“Five-foot-two.” she snaps.

“Remind me again who is the little one?” I laugh.

“My foot up your ass might remind you.” she mumbles.

“As hilarious as this is, what’s the plan now?” Duffy asks.

“Every time a wolf hits my barrier I feel it. Every new wolf is a new feeling. I’ll have a better count by the time they break through. They also get an electrical shock every time they hit it which feels worse the more they try.” Dani explains her part.

“And the only way to get through is to hit it until it breaks?” Larcan asks.

“Yup.” she says proudly.

“Nice work sis, you’re a badass. I honestly don’t understand why any Alpha would turn you away. I feel they aren’t fit to run their packs”.

“What are the numbers looking like so far?” Duffy asks.

“About one hundred thirty-seven”.

“Alright, Duffy and Larcan get out of here and get some rest while you can. We will wake you when we head out”.

“Thanks, and if we don’t see you before the fight, good luck”..

"Behind us." Lex warns me.

"I see him”.

I rush the wolf trying to get past us to the pack house. I leap up and use a fallen tree to get more air, shift and then Lex lands on him and grabs him around his neck and snaps it like a twig.

Off to my left I see Duffy tackle a wolf off of Larcan and Brandon fighting a wolf a little ahead of them.

"Everyone good?" I link the pack.

An explosion comes from Brandon’s direction.

"Brandon are you alright?"

"I’m good." he links me back.

"There are more here than were led to believe." Luke points out.

"He has a witch." Dani tells us.

"How the fuck did that happen?" Marcus asks.

"I recognize the power from somewhere, it feels familiar." Dani says.

"Alester, I see Les and he’s got a woman shielding him." Kody links.

I follow my bond to Kody; he’s got a pile of bodies around him. Him and Cage are a force. I watch a wolf try to land on them but Cage pushes himself up and flips, kicking the enemy into a nearby tree. The tree splintered on impact. The wolf shakes it off the best he can but Kody shifted and disappeared into the trees.

The wolf noticed me but before he could take two steps Kody was on him slitting his throat. I was sad when he shifted back, it was Steven Walker, a wolf I’d grown up and trained with. In all the planning I’d forgotten I’d know most of the wolves we killed today.

Explosions ring out all around us. Once the dust settles a bit I see Les and sure enough he’s standing happily watching all the wolves he gathered run in and die.

A few got past us and made it to the back up. But that’s why we had them. I was not losing my home again.

"Alester... that’s my... that’s my mother." Dani links me.

"What?"

Suddenly rocks, leaves and dirt start swirling around us. Dani has shifted back and is floating in the middle of all the debris. She screams out and lighting bursts out all around us striking through the shield her mother has protecting Les.

The witches’ eyes go wide. She didn’t know it was Dani. Her colourful hair is swirling around. All around us everything and everyone has come to a stand still.

Everyone watches as Dani looks her mother in the eyes. Then she looks at Les and I see fear in his eyes for the first time in my life.

The sky has clouded over, lightning bolts hitting Dani as she levitates closer. She starts talking but it’s not her normal voice, it’s almost as if she is possessed.

“You took everything from me!” she yells.

A bolt strikes the ground by his feet and he jumps back.

“I don’t even know who you are.” Les says back.

“Exactly. You ordered my death before I even took a breath and now you use my flesh and blood to try and kill the family I have left.” her eyes are glowing bright blue, so bright they are almost like a spotlight on him.

“Dani!” Luke yells, he is very worried.

Les turns to his witch seething with rage. He lunges at her but he doesn’t get close. Dani screams and thousands of lightning bolts shoot off from Dani’s body striking Les; she collapses to the ground before the last few bolts strike Les and he falls to the ground.

“You... you lied... to... me.” Les gasps out.

“Of course I lied. I knew my baby would be special and I was right. She is stronger than I ever was.” she cries.

The witch then gets up and apologizes to an unconscious Dani and runs.

“ATTACK YOU FOOLS!” Les yells at the wolves still standing around in a state of shock.

All of a sudden everyone is fighting again. I watched in horror as Brandon is quickly overwhelmed by eight wolves.

"Alester, take care of Sadie and our cub. Tell them I love them."

“NO!” I yell as I run towards him.

Brandon pulls the pin before I make it two steps.

🐺Kody🐺

I’m fighting a couple wolves away when I see Brandon pull the pin on the grenade. I see Alester running towards him but he’s not going to be able to stop it.

It explodes and sets off the rest that were hidden close by sending Alester and many others flying into the trees.

Lex emerges from the dust and leaps at Les. Les turns, claws extended, now embedded in Alester’s chest. Alester shifts back with the claws still inside shredding his chest.

“It’s over.” Alester spits out.

“What are you going to do? I could rip your heart out right now.” he gloats.

“No, you can’t”.

I watch Alester reach out and grab Les by his arm. He twists it and tears it from him. Les screams out in pain and Alester takes the arm he just tore off and plunges it into Les’ chest. The arm shift back to human and Les collapses on the ground dead.

Our enemies submit to Alester. Some of them radiating relief and others anger.

He turns and all our of our allies have gathered around and are bowing to him.

“Alester!” our little Luna runs from the trees, blood of our enemies all over her.

Alester catches her in his arms, “Kylah, thank Goddess you’re alright”.

I run up to them and Alester let’s go of Kylah and throws his arms around me.

“Little wolf. I am so fucking sorry that I couldn’t save Brandon.” he says sadly.

“W-we lost B-Brandon?” Kylah tears up.

We collapse on the ground, our pack coming to mourn around us.

“What are we going to tell Sadie?” I ask.

“We will tell her that he died a hero. He protected his pack, her and their cub to his last breath.” Tessa says breaking through the crowd that has gathered.

Marcus runs over to her. I guess they got separated.

We take the injured back to the pack house and disable the explosives. The packs that had been guarding the house are out cleaning up all the bodies with instructions that should they find Brandon’s body we want to have a private ceremony for him.

I head down to the infirmary to check on Dani. Sitting beside her is the Moon Goddess and Luke.

“Dani I am so, so sorry. I had no idea your mother was still alive”.

“It’s alright”.

“How are you doing?” I ask her and they all turn and look at me.

“I’m fine, just a bit tired. Luke just told me what I did”.

“It was magnificent.” I tell her.

“I heard about Brandon.” she says sadly.

The sorrow and silence are sucking the oxygen from the room.

“I don’t know how to tell Sadie.” I say.

“Maybe you should leave it to Tessa, since she is her sister.” Dani says.

“I will tell her.” Alester says when he enters the room, “he linked me before he pulled the pin... I should have been able to stop him.” he says it with so much pain.

“I underestimated Dani’s power. I think everyone did. If your coven knew how powerful you were going to be they’d never have left you behind. And if any of the Alpha’s had known they wouldn’t have turned you away.

They had to turn you away. You and Alester are making history. First to join forces because you want to instead of the wolves enslaving them. You’re Royalty now, all of you. It may not be done yet but you’re the new Royal Family.” she says excitedly.

She probably should have waited to make this announcement. We are all still very raw from the loss of Brandon.

“Selene, is Brandon really gone?” I ask her.

“Yes, I am sorry my sweet boy. I don’t see or feel him anymore and that means the loss of life.” She takes my hand.

This is so unfair.
