Chapter 82
Mason returned to the mansion, and the servants were a bit surprised to see him back.
"Where's Mrs. Lockwood? Didn't she go out?" Mason casually asked while heading upstairs.
The servant quickly replied, "Mrs. Zoe is still here, but she just told the driver that she'll be heading out shortly.”
Mason paused for a moment, not saying anything. He walked to the second floor, opened the door to the master bedroom, and saw Zoe changing into different clothes.
She wore a silk blouse paired with a fishtail skirt, giving off a hint of restrained beauty.
Mason could not help but glance for a few more seconds. Then, he took off his suit jacket, sat on the couch, and stared at her intently.
"I just got back, and you already have plans? Cancel them and have dinner with me."
Zoe had a meeting with Aiden. It could not be canceled on a whim. However, she also did not want to upset Mason.
So, she said gently, "I didn't know you'd be back early, Mason. Next time, let me know in advance if you want to have dinner together so I can prepare for it."
Mason was in a terrible mood.
He reached out and pulled Zoe into his arms. He lowered his head, his nose pressing against hers, flesh against flesh, appearing overly intimate and ambiguous. However, his words carried a hint of mockery. "Do I need to make a reservation now whenever I want to have a meal with you, Mrs. Lockwood?"
Zoe had a keen sense. She could tell that Mason was not in a good mood, but she did not care. She even lazily thought, “Maybe he had a fight with Lilith and is feeling down."
Casually, she kissed the corner of his mouth and softly said, “Mason, I've made plans. If I don't leave now, I might be late.”
Mason, holding onto her slender waist, gave it a gentle squeeze.
Just as he was about to let go, Zoe's phone rang. It was a location sent by Aiden’s assistant.
Zoe did not check her phone.
Mason stretched his neck slightly and said slowly, "Aren't you going to check your phone? Are you afraid I'll see?"
Zoe's tone was indifferent. "Mason, do you want to check it? If you do, I can show you every text I receive from now on."
It was an unpleasant conversation, but Mason laughed.
He gently caressed Zoe's slender shoulder. “I'm just joking. Why are you taking it so seriously? Hurry up and go. Didn't you say you'll be late?"
After Zoe left, Mason's smile faded.
He lowered his head, the light shining on his well-defined facial features, casting faint shadows, making his entire face appear mysterious and difficult to understand.
Zoe sighed with relief once she got into the car.
Mason had a bad temper and was overly suspicious. Since she returned to him, every interaction with him had been anything but easy. The driver turned his head and asked, "Where to, Mrs. Zoe?"
Zoe glanced at the location sent by David and said lightly, "Cortes Cafe at Southport Fishing Village."
The driver gently stepped on the gas and cheerfully commented, "Their desserts are famous. My wife and kids love them."
Zoe smiled faintly.
Thirty minutes later, the car arrived at Southport Fishing Village.
Once Zoe got out of the car, the driver was preparing to park in the underground parking lot when the phone in the glove compartment rang. Glancing at it, he realized it was a call from Mason.
The driver hurriedly answered, "Mr. Mason, I've safely dropped Mrs. Zoe off."
Mason's tone was indifferent. "Send me the location. I'll pick her up later.”
At Cortes Cafe, David had reserved a cozy corner and ordered desserts specifically for Zoe.
As soon as Zoe arrived, David stood up to greet her, smiling.
“I finally got you out. Zoe, you're really something else. Only you can make Aiden willingly wait for ten minutes."
Zoe quickly apologized, "I had to deal with something unexpected just as I was leaving."
David was insightful. He knew Zoe had returned to Mason. He suspected it was because of that man.
However, he did not bring it up. Instead, he pulled a chair for Zoe and said cheerfully, "Sit down and try these. I ordered them just for you. Let's eat and chat.”
